Bu çalışma ile sahne tasarımında kullanılan çok yönlü bir malzemenin işlevselliği üzerine bir inceleme yapılmıştır. Özellikle sahne tasarımı uygulaması üzerine çalışan bilim ve sanat adamları için malzeme hâkimiyeti sağlayacaktır. Sahne tasarımı; çok konseptli sanatsal ve bilimsel alanı kapsar. Bu alan içerisinde malzeme gerekliliğine göre kullanılabileceği gibi dönüştürülerek de kullanılır. Her malzeme sahne tasarımında asıl amacıyla ve alternatif amacıyla kullanır. Kumaşlar sahnelemede en yaygın kullanılan malzemedir, nedeni ise çok yönlü kullanım alanı ve her bütçeye uygun alternatifinin olmasıdır. Bilindiği gibi gündelik hayatta, kumaşların kıyafetlerde ve tekstil ürünlerinde kullanımı yaygındır. Sahne üzerinde kumaşı, sanatsal ve teknik çalışmalarla yüklenmiş haliyle bambaşka görürüz. Kumaşın çok yönlülüğüne bağlı sahnelemede çok çeşitli kumaş üzerine denemeler olur. İşte sahne tasarımında kumaşın kullanımı; giyim, makyaj, maske yanında dekorda da hemen hemen her alanda kullanılır. Kumaşlar piyasada her ne kadar kolay ulaşılabilir olsa da teknik ve sanatsal bir süreçten geçirilerek oluştuğu unutulmamalıdır.
