Sessiz kitaplar, yazılı metinleri olmayan ve tamamen resimlerden oluşan, hikayesini illüstrasyonlar aracılığıyla anlatan kitap türüdür. İllüstrasyonların kitabın okuruna aktardığı, anlattıkları ve hissettirdikleri dışında başka bir anlatım aracı yoktur. Bu kitap türünde kelimelerin yerini görseller alır. Sessiz kitaplar okuma, anlama, dinleme, konuşma, bilişsel ve yaratıcı düşünme ile psikomotor kazanımlar sağlamak için en etkili araçlardan biridir. Özveriyle hazırlanmış çocuk kitaplarının ortak özeliği iyi yazılmış bir metne ve nitelikli resimlemelere sahip olmasıyla ortaya çıkar. The most basic function of the elaborate pictures in the books prepared for preschool children is their contribution to the child's visual and auditory perception abilities. Thanks to this basic education, it is ensured that the child creates an infrastructure for the development of creative thinking skills. It is of great importance to present pictures of books prepared with an artist's sensitivity to the child in this period, where he learns more by seeing and listening before the literacy period. It develops the child's vision and hearing perceptions. Thus, the child experiences being able to express his feelings and thoughts on what he sees. He begins to visualize and make sense of what he sees. The language of the words used in the books is of course very important in this process, but with the absence of words in the silent books, this task is left entirely to the visuals. Thus, the child gains a different function, the ability to read images.
