Dinler coğrafyası merkezli bu çalışmada; Mormonculuğun tarihsel kökleri, dinsel özellikleri ve diğer inanç toplulukları ile temel farklılıkları tartışılmıştır. “Mormonluk” terimi, Mormonların inanç metinlerinden biri olan Mormon Kitabı’ndan türetilmiştir. Bu yüzden kitabın adına dayanarak kurucusu Joseph Smith Jr.’ın ilk takipçilerine Mormon denilmiş ve onların inancı Mormonluk olarak adlandırılmıştır. Mormonizm, İsa Mesih’in Son Zaman Azizler Kilisesi'nin öğretilerini ve doktrinini tanımlamak için kullanılan yaygın bir terimdir. Çalışmada Mormon inancının ortaya çıkışı, tarihsel gelişimi, kültürel ve felsefi yapısı, coğrafi yayılışı, ahlaki değerleri ve kutsal kitapları, mormonizm hareketinin kurucusu, Mormon Kilisesi ve Mormonizmin temel doktrinleri hakkında genel bilgilere yer verilmiş, Mormon Kilisesi’nde yapılan eğitim ve misyonerlik faaliyetleri özetlenerek açıklanmıştır. Çalışmada Mormon toplulukların temel inançları ve ibadet uygulamaları ile aile, sağlık, yaşam, evlilik, ahlak, tanrı ve din konularındaki temel görüşleri de tartışılmıştır. Bu çalışmayla, 160’tan fazla ülkede geniş bir coğrafi alanda yayılış gösteren ve 16 milyondan fazla taraftarı olan “İsa Mesih’in Ahir Zaman Azizleri Kilisesi’nin” temel ilkeleri ve inanç özellikleri açıklandığı gibi Hristiyanlık mezhepleri ile Mormon inancı arasındaki benzerlikler ve farklılıklar da irdelenmiştir. Çalışmanın son kısmında kıtalar ve ülkeler bazında Mormon nüfusunun coğrafi dağılışı irdelenmiş ve tüm bunlar coğrafi haritalarla yansıtılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın en önemli sonuçlarından birisi, Mormon inancının en geniş coğrafi mekâna yayılma başarısı göstermiş ve en hızla taraftar sayılarını arttıran yeni dini hareketlerden biri olduğunun tespit edilmesidir.

In this study, which is centered on the geography of religions, the historical roots of Mormonism, its religious characteristics and its main differences with other religious communities are discussed. The term “Mormonism” is derived from the Book of Mormon, one of the Mormon texts of faith. So, based on the name of the book, its founder is Joseph Smith Jr. the first followers of the were called Mormons, and their faith was called Mormonism. It is a common term used to describe the teachings and doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this study, the emergence of Mormon belief, its historical development, cultural and philosophical structure, geographical expansion, moral values and holy books, history of Mormonism, Joseph Smith the leader of Mormonism, and Mormon Church, and basic doctrins of Mormon, and education, and missionary activities in the Mormon Church are summarized. In this study, the basic beliefs and worship practices of Mormon communities and their basic views on family, health, life, marriage, morality, God, and religion were also discussed. In this study, the basic principles and belief characteristics of the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”, which spreads over a wide geographical area in more than 160 countries and has more than 16 million followers, as well as the similarities and differences between Christian sects and Mormon beliefs are also explained. In the last part of the study, the geographical distribution of the Mormon population on the basis of continents and countries was examined and were shown on geographical maps. One of the most important results of this study is that the Mormon faith is one of the most recent religious movements that has succeeded in spreading to the widest geographical area and that its followers have been increasing swiftly.
