Dünyanın devingen yapısı sayesinde farklı toplumsal gelişmeler meydana gelmektedir. Meydana gelen bu gelişmeler sonucunda yeni ürünler, fikirler, kültürler ve dünya görüşleri oluşmaktadır. Globalleşme olarak adlandırılan dünya üzerindeki bu hareketlilik ise her mesleği olduğu gibi çeviri mesleğini de etkilemiştir. Bu çalışma da ise sözlü çevirinin bir türü olan ve sağlık, hukuk, emniyet, eğitim alanı gibi kurum ve kuruluşlarda varlığını sürdüren toplum çevirmenliğinin alt alanı sağlık çevirmenliği ele alınmıştır. Başlarda gönüllülük esasına dayanan bu çeviri türünde yapılan hataların sonuçları neticesinde zamanla profesyonelleşme ihtiyacı ortaya çıkmıştır. Sağlık çevirmenliği göçlerin artması ile sağlık alanında ortaya çıkan iletişim sorunlarına dikkat çekmek amacıyla irdelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda insan hayatının bir parçası olan hastanelerin çeviri durumlarını saptayıp bu alanda tercümanlara duyulan ihtiyacı ortaya koymaya yönelik hastane çalışanlarına (doktorlar, hemşireler, hasta bakıcılar, terapistler), hastanelerdeki çeviri hizmetlerinin konumuna ilişkin sorular yöneltilmiştir. Çalışmada “Türkçe Bilmeyen Hastalarla İletişim Anketi” uygulanmıştır. Uygulanan bu anketin gönüllü katılımcılar tarafından cevaplanması üzerine farklı illerdeki devlet ve özel hastanelerine uygulanan 309 anket verileri SPPS (Veri Analizi ve Raporlama Sistemi) paket programına girilmiş ve sonuçlar doğrultusunda alana ilişkin değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Yapılan bu çalışmanın neticesinde sağlık çevirmenliği alanında iletişimin hâlâ büyük bir ölçüde amatör dil aracıları tarafından sağlandığı tespit edilmiş ve hastane çalışanlarının hastanelerin tercüman istihdam etmeleri gerektiğine dair görüş bildirdikleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Thanks to the dynamic structure of the world, different social developments occur. As a result of these developments, new products, ideas, cultures and worldviews are formed. This mobility in the world, which is called globalization, has affected the translation profession as well as every profession. In this study, the sub-area of ​​community interpreting, which is a type of interpreting and continues to exist in institutions and organizations such as health, law, security and education, has been discussed. As a result of the mistakes made in this type of translation, which was based on volunteerism at the beginning, the need for professionalization emerged over time. Health interpreting has been examined in order to draw attention to the communication problems that arise in the field of health with the increase in immigration. In this direction, questions were asked to the hospital staff (doctors, nurses, caregivers, therapists) about the position of translation services in hospitals in order to determine the translation status of hospitals, which are a part of human life, and to reveal the need for translators in this field. In the study, “Communication Questionnaire with Patients Who Don't Know Turkish” was applied. After this questionnaire was answered by the volunteer participants, the data of 309 questionnaires applied to public and private hospitals in different provinces were entered into the SPPS (Data Analysis and Reporting System) package program and evaluations were made in the field in line with the results. As a result of this study, it has been determined that communication in the field of health translation is still provided by amateur language intermediaries to a large extent, and it has been concluded that hospital employees express their opinion that hospitals should employ interpreters.
