Niğde, Türkiye’nin İç Anadolu Bölgesi’nde yer alan Kapadokya Havzası’nda bulunan bir ildir. Tarihi süreçte günümüze miras bırakılmış, soyut ve soyut olmayan miras ögelerine ev sahipliği yapmaktadır. Bunu tescillemek adına yapılan girişimler içerisinde uluslararası anlamda yapılan en önemli adımlardan birisi Niğde ili için UNESCO Dünya Mirası Listesi’ne başvurularak 2012’de Geçici Listeye adının yazdırılması gösterilebilir. UNESCO Dünya Miras Listesi’nde “Niğde’nin Tarihi Anıtları” olarak belirtilen alanlar kent merkezinin sınırları dâhilinde gösterilen Alaaddin Tepesi Bölgesi’ndeki eserlerdir. Bunlar; Kale, Alaeddin Camii, Sungur Bey Camii, Rahmaniye Camii, Sokullu Mehmet Paşa Bedesteni, Nalbantlar Çeşmesi, Ermeni ve Rum Kiliseleri vb. yapılardır. Birçok farklı kültürün etkisinde kalan bu çekirdek bölgede yaşanan mimaride, sosyal hayatta ve yaşam tarzındaki dinamiklik, bölgenin kent gelişimi üzerindeki etkisinin önemini göstermektedir. Ancak, Niğde önemli tarihi yapılara sahip olmasına rağmen, turizmde yeterli düzeyde faaliyet gösterememektedir. Tarihi bölgelerin günümüzde öneminin bilinmesi, değerinin korunması ve miras alanı olarak sonraki nesillere aktarılması adına yapılabilecek en önemli girişim bu alanları turizm yoluyla kamuya açmak olabilir. Yaşamaya devam eden bu alanların korunmasında etkili bir araç olan turizm özellikle küçük kentlerde ekonomiyi canlandıran temel faktörlerden birisi olarak görülmektedir. Kent gelişimi adına yüksek bir öneme sahip bu bölgenin kalkınması için turizm işletmelerinin yaygınlaştırılarak bu açığı kapatacak seviyeye ulaşmaları öngörülmektedir. Turizm işletmeleri ekonomik kalkınmada ülkeler için önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra bölgesel kalkınma açısından turizm işletmelerinin etkin bir rolü olduğu düşünülmektedir. Turizm işletmelerinin kentlerin bölgesel olarak kalkınması hususunda literatürde çok fazla çalışma yer almamaktadır. Bu nedenle mevcut çalışma, örneklem olarak Niğde'yi ele alarak turizm işletmelerinin Niğde'nin bölgesel kalkınması konusunda var olan durumunu ortaya koymayı ve bu hususta neler yapılabileceğini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu bağlamda, Niğde'nin önemli bir kültürel mirası olan Niğde Kalesi çevresinde faaliyet gösteren 30 işletme sahibi ile yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine mülakat gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre hem tarihi alanlardaki koruma zemininin sağlamlaştırılmasının hem bölgeye ziyaretçi çekmeyi amaçlayarak bölgesel kalkınmayı destekleyen turizm faktörünün Niğde adına tam olarak istenilen amaca hizmet edemediği görülmüştür. Niğde'nin bölgesel kalkınmada yeterli yatırım ve tanıtım desteği görmediği, var olan kültürel mirasın bölgesel kalkınma açısından bir rolü bulunmadığı, ancak geliştirilebilir bir nitelikte olduğu, konaklama işletmeleri ve yöresel restoranlar konusunda yetersiz olduğu görülmüştür. Tespit edilen bu sorunun çözümü için kültürel mirasa sahip çıkabilecek nitelikte turizm işletmelerinin arttırılması, soylulaştırma çabasından uzak bölgesel kalkınmanın gerçekleştirilmesi gibi önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Nigde located in Turkey's Central Anatolia Region is a province situated in Cappadocia Basin. In the historical process, it is home to tangible and intagible heritage elements that have been inherited today. One of the most important international steps taken is to apply to the UNESCO World Heritage List for the province of Niğde in 2012 and show its name on the Temporary List. The areas designated as Historical Monuments of Niğde in the UNESCO World Heritage List are the creations in the Alaaddin Hill Region which is shown within the boundaries of the city center. These are Castle, Alaeddin Mosque, Sungur Bey Mosque, Rahmaniye Mosque, Sokullu Mehmet Pasha Bedesten, Nalbantlar Fountain, Armenian and Greek Churches and so on structures. The dynamism in the social life and lifestyle of the architecture in this core region, which has been influenced by many different cultures, shows the importance of the region's impact on urban development. However, although Niğde has important historical buildings, it does not operate sufficiently in tourism. The most important initiative that can be done in order to recognize the importance of historical regions, to preserve their value and to transfer them to the next generations as a heritage site, may be to open these areas to the public through tourism. Tourism, which is an effective tool for the protection of these areas, is seen as one of the main factors that stimulate the economy, especially in small cities. For the development of this region, which has a high importance in terms of urban development, tourism enterprises are expected to be widespread and reach the level to cover this gap. Tourism enterprises play an important role for countries in economic development. In addition, tourism enterprises are thought to have an active role in terms of regional development. There are not many studies in the literature regarding the regional development of tourism enterprises. Therefore, the present study aimed to reveal the existing situation of tourism enterprises in the regional development of Nigde by taking Nigde as a sample and to find out what can be done in this regard. In this context, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 30 business owners operating around Niğde Castle, an important cultural heritage of Nigde. According to the results of the research, it was observed that both the strengthening of the protection ground in historical areas and the tourism factor supporting regional development by attracting visitors to the region could not serve the exact purpose on behalf of Niğde. Niğde did not receive sufficient investment and promotion support in regional development, the existing cultural heritage did not play a role in terms of regional development, but was in a quality that could be improved and was insufficient in terms of accommodation establishments and local restaurants. In order to solve this problem, it may be suggested to increase tourism enterprises that can protect cultural heritage and to realize regional development away from gentrification efforts.
