Enerji insan hayatı için büyük önem arz etmektedir. Günümüzde insanlar ihtiyaç duydukları enerjiyi ağırlıklı olarak fosil yakıtlardan elde etmektedir. Fosil yakıtların tükenen doğal kaynak olması her geçen gün maliyetlerini doğrudan artırmaktadır. Ayrıcafosil yakıtların insan sağlığı ve çevre üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri dolaylı maliyetlere neden olmaktadır. Fosil yakıtların gerek doğrudan gerekse dolaylı maliyetleri tartışılmaya başlanmıştır. Fosil yakıtların tükenmesi ve beraberinde ortaya çıkardığı doğrudan ve dolaylı maliyetler insanları alternatif kaynak arayışına sürüklemiştir. Bu yüzden bir takım ülkeler zararı minimuma indirgeme gayreti içerisine girmiştir. Bu bağlamda ABD, Rusya, AB, Çin, Japonya, Güney Kore ve Hindistan gibi ülkeler International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) olarak tanımlanan bir Projeye imza atmıştır. Bu projeyle daha düşük maliyetli, çevre dostu ve yenilenebilir bir enerji kaynağı hedeflenmektedir. ITER Projesinin önemi ve gerekliliği, geleneksel enerji üretim maliyetlerini karşılaştırmak suretiyle ele alınmıştır. Çalışma ile ITER projesinin fosil yakıtlara göre; hem maliyet, hem sağlık, hem de çevre açısından avantajlı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.
Energy is very important for human life. Nowadays, people get the energy they need mainly from fossil fuels. The fact that fossil fuels are depleted and are the natural resources increases their costs every day. Furthermore, the negative effects of fossil fuels on human health and on the environment cause indirect costs. Both the direct and indirect costs of fossil fuels have been discussed. The depletion of fossil fuels and the direct and indirect costs associated with this have led the people to the search for alternative sources. Therefore, a number of countries have tried to reduce the damage to the minimum. In this context, countries such as the USA, Russia, EU, China, Japan, South Korea, and India have signed a project called International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). A lower cost, environmentally friendly and renewable energy source is targeted with this project. The importance and necessity of the ITER Project were emphasized by presenting traditional energy production costs. According to the study, the ITER project will provide a great advantage in terms of cost, health and the environment.
