Parents of children with autism experience high levels of stress, anxiety, frustration and dissatisfaction. Following the diagnosis in their children families make changes in their lives. After diagnosis parents employ different coping strategies such as use of treatment services, support from other members of the family or personal network or use of religious coping mechanisms. In addition to these strategies parents also use parent support groups as a way of coping. Parents of children with special needs have long been using parent support groups in order to gather new information, share their experiences with other group members, or get emotional support. Among these groups face-to-face support groups provide their members with the opportunity to share their experiences, support each other, obtain new information, and create a network of parents with similar interests or concerns. Online parent support groups provide the same support in online environment with the advantage of participating discussion any time they want and from anywhere in the world. The first section of this article focuses on parents’ experiences of raising a child with autism. The second section reviews studies on face-to-face and parent support groups and discusses advantages and disadvantages of these groups. Conclusions and recommendation are made based on literature.

The purpose of this research is to examine how secondary school principals conduct their instructional supervisory process with their views and descriptions of teaching goals. The working group of the study is composed of 10 secondary school principals who are selected with easily accessible sampling method among the 34 secondary school principals working in the province of Bornova, İzmir in the academic year of 2016-2017. The following questions were searched in order to find out the information about the instructional supervision of the secondary school principals., “What is the instructional supervision according to the secondary school principals?”, “How do secondary school principals carry out the phases of preparation, implementation and feedback of the instructional supervision process?”, “What are the difficulties that secondary school principals face during the instructional supervision process?”, “What are the proposals of secondary school principals in order to develop the instructional supervision?”. At the data collection process the semi-structured interview form is utilized. The interview form consists of open-ended interview questions approved by field experts. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis method. At the end of the research, it is seen that the secondary school principals regard instructional supervision as a process. The principals assess this process as a regulatory, planned-programmed, collaborative and professional development process. During the preparation phase of the instructional supervision process, principals gather information, inform teachers about the process and they start the process by planning in this direction. They make individual observations within the classroom during the application phase. It has been seen that the views of school principals regarding the feedback, the last stage of the instructional supervision process, are predominantly guidance and counseling. School principals have stated that they have difficulty in devoting time to the activities of instructional supervision because of their heavy workload. They pointed out that adequate training on instructional supervision was taken by neither themselves nor the supervisors and they made suggestions for the regulation of in-service training activities in this direction. They indicated that instructional supervision should be implemented on a more objective basis, with a variety of instructional supervision processes.

Factors influencing English language learning have been one of the main concerns of English language researchers and practitioners. There have been many studies investigating different aspects in relation to language learning. For example, some researchers focused their attention on exploring the issues related to cognitive aspects of language learning. They tried to uncover what goes on in the mind of the learner while learning a foreign language. The concept of ‘belief’ has attracted the interest of many researchers for more than three decades. This study aimed to explore the English language learning beliefs of Pre-school Teaching Department students studying at one of the Universities in Northern Cyprus. It also investigated whether there were any differences in the student teachers’ perceptions about English language learning regarding gender and age. 151 first year student teachers studying in the Department of Pre-school Teaching at a University in North Cyprus were the participants of the study. 135 female and 16 male student teachers participated in this investigation. In order to collect data about the student teachers’ perceptions regarding English language learning “English Language Learning Beliefs Inventory (BALLI)” version 2 (Horwitz, 2013 ) was employed. The questionnaire consisted of 44 items and the participants replied to each item according to the 5-point Likert Scale. The findings did not reveal any significant difference between the male and female participants’ perceptions about English language learning beliefs. The participant student teachers’ perceptions about language learning beliefs differed significantly in relation to age.

Specific Learning Difficulty (SLD) is a term that includes a group of heterogeneous disorders that manifest itself as a delay or deterioration in the acquisition and use of reading, writing, comprehension, or arithmetic skills. It is stated that a large number of diseases are seen together with SLD. Attention deficit and hyperactivity are defined as the most common accompanying conditions. Depression and anxiety are also known to accompany SLD. In this study, the effect of psychological group counseling with 12 children diagnosed with SLD on their depression and anxiety levels was investigated. The study is an experimental design based on the pretest-posttest model. The sample of the study consisted of 12 children diagnosed with SLD. The study was conducted once a week for 90 minutes and for 12 weeks. Prior to starting the study, children’s anxiety levels were measured using the “State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children” developed by Spielberger; their depression levels were measured using the “Depression Scale for Children” developed by Kovacks. The same scales were repeated at the end of the group and 2 months later for the follow-up study. The “Wilcoxon Test”, one of the nonparametric tests, was used for the statistics of the study. According to the results of the study, the state-trait anxiety level and depression levels of the children decreased statistically significantly (p<.01) between the pretest and posttest scores. However, no statistically significant difference was found between the posttest scores and the follow-up scores in the follow-up study performed 2 months after the posttest. İt is thought to be useful to use this method in the field, which is frequently taught in undergraduate education of psychological counselors. In addition, it is thought that the information obtained from the children in this study will be the basis for future studies.

Students with emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD) have diverse needs in social and academic skills. They may display repeated behavior problems, like noncompliance, aggression, and disrespect toward authority figures accompanied by poor academic achievement. Co-occurring problem behaviors and reading difficulties create a vicious circle that each item has a negative effect on the other. The current study simply compares the effectiveness of two different reading fluency interventions during oral reading by the single subject alternating treatment design. This case study examined the effectiveness of two reading fluency interventions; “Reading Together” and “Animal Assisted Reading Together” Interventions in a fourth grade student struggling with fluency skills. When compared to baseline, “Animal Assisted Reading Together” intervention increased oral reading fluency by the end of the 7 weeks of intervention. This intervention focuses on creating a context of acceptance in which student can practice his reading skills without fear of making mistakes. The findings of this study have important implications for understanding how reading programs can function for students with EBD and extends the literature on CBC which can be a useful vehicle for promoting a shared responsibility and that applying hybrid interventions can result in acceptable and effective treatment outcomes for a student with both academic and emotional, behavioral problems.

This study examines prospective teachers’ perceptions of their professions, their thoughts about teacher competencies, what kind of teacher they plan to be in the future and the future of teaching profession. The descriptive research model is adopted for this research. Data of the study gathered with open - ended question form from students at various departments and class levels of Dicle University Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education during 2016 - 2017 academic year. Content analysis is used in the analysis of the data obtained from the open-ended questionnaire. According to the findings obtained, teacher candidates -highlighted the sanctity and importance of the teaching profession. They also dream of being a planned, disciplined, innovative, role model and unforgettable teacher who can create their own unique teaching strategies and sacrifice their profession so that future students can become useful to the society. In another finding, it appears that teacher candidates have expressed many personal and professional competencies that a teacher should have, in a manner that overlaps the relevant literature. Finally, prospective teachers are in desperation and pessimism and do not see their future brightly, depending on their anxiety about not being able to be appointed as teachers of their profession for the future and lack of respect within the society. In these findings, prospective teacher candidates are aware of the importance of the teaching profession and the competencies they should possess as teachers; but because they do not see the future of their profession brightly, their motivation to work has fallen.

The Turkish nation has scattered all over the world and has established many states with different names. When we look at the number of states established by Turks since ancient times, we see this in concrete terms. So much so that when we look at the number of states established by the Turkish Nation in the historical process, we can say that it is almost equal to the total number of states established by all other nations. This past has given us a rich and rooted culture. Kutadgu Bilig is also one of these rich and rooted cultural heritage stones. Kutadgu Bilig, who was taken over by Yusuf Has Hacib and who means "State Management Information", has made a great contribution to the formation and development of Turkish management science. However, the work is also important in that we are the first type of politics that brings the traditions of the Turkish state government to the point. In this way, the rulers who came after him became the bedspread. But despite being translated into many languages, it is still an untouched treasure. "When Turkish youth understand this book, Turkey will be saved," said Reşit Rahmeti Arat, who brought Kutadgu Bilig to Turkish Turkism and compiled it and made it reach day-to-day. In this research, Kutadgu Bilig, one of the masterpieces of Turkish cultural history, has been evaluated in terms of leadership features. In this context, couplets directly related to leadership were identified as they were found in Kutadgu Bilig, and these couplets were handled in such a way as to be a source of position. These couplets were then classified under seven headings in terms of their basic leadership characteristics. Classified couplets; it has been determined that in terms of present-day leadership understanding, there are many similarities in the field between the concept of leadership of the period written by Kutadgu Bilig and the present leadership understanding. In addition, various suggestions have been made depending on the data obtained from the research. Work; scanning model, based on the document review technique. This study is very important in terms of educating more reliable managers, leaders and educators as well as educating national memory susceptible individuals. In addition, this study is also remarkable in the future scientific studies in terms of creating scientific data, giving vision, suggestions and guidance to interested people.

This work has been made to define the communication, cultural unification and democracy concepts which created feelings of national unification against the coup, in the light of metaphors created by the touchstones of society candidate teachers, after the failed coup attempt. Events that deeply affect society, might change people’s perception of different situations and concepts. Behind the attitude that changed the opposite our country experienced into victory in a single night is our collective consciousness. This consciousness is fed by our common culture and our unity of communication. The work carries importance to see how our candidate teachers, whom will raise new generations after the July 15, understands and thinks about the concepts of ‘democracy’, ‘culture’ and ‘communication’. It is also important to reveal the societies perception and development with metaphors, created by candidate teachers whose native tongue is Turkish, to the educational sciences alongside sociological and philosophical sciences. This study tried to answer the question ‘What are the metaphors the candidate teachers have about these three concepts?’ and ‘In what conceptual categories could these concepts examined in?’ Study group of this work consists of 210 candidate teachers who studied in Gazi University Turkish Language teaching department in 2016-2017 autumn period. To collect data, in the first step every student was asked to give a single word answers to question ‘What is Democracy/Culture/Communication?’ and after that, students were asked to fill in the blanks to the question ‘Democracy/Culture/Communication is like ...; because ...’ In the second step, metaphors given as answers to the fill in the blank question were tabulated in categories by their frequency of sightings (n) and the results were analysed. After the examination, related to ‘democracy’ concept ‘equality, liberty, justice, July 15’ metaphors; related to ‘culture’ concept ‘tradition, nationalistic awareness, nationalistic unification’ metaphors and related to ‘communication’ concept ‘phone, social media, texting’ metaphors have showed prominence. Metaphors that showed prominence were analysed with interpretation and necessary recommendations were made.

The goal of the study is to reveal the perceptions of pre-service teachers about school before and after taking the course of “introduction to educational sciences”. The study was designed as a qualitative research and carried out following a phenomenology approach. The participants of the study were pre-service teachers attending Eskişehir Osmangazi University. They were selected using criterion sampling techniques, which is part of purposeful sampling techniques. The criterion for inclusion was to register the course of “introduction to educational sciences”. The total number of pre-service teachers who met this requirement was 64. The data of the study were collected through metaphors. More specifically, the participants were asked to produce a metaphor about the concept of school and to justify their production of it. The data obtained were examined using content analysis. In order to establish the reliability of the study the transcribed versions of the interviews and the topics involved were both reviewed by a field specialist. For reliability calculation the formula developed by Miles and Huberman (1994) was employed and it was found to be .94 for the study. The frequency of each theme/topic was found and was complemented with direct quotations. The findings of the study showed that before taking the course “introduction to educational sciences” the participants produced a total of twenty-three metaphors. Of them eleven were conceptual metaphors.
History is among the courses that are used in conveying the local, national, and universal values. History course is significantly functional in the creation and convey of especially national-moral, religious, and social values. This study examined History and Revolution History and Kemalism programs that have been accepted in 2017 and 9th grade history textbook in terms of values education through document analysis. The data were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques. The findings showed that the teaching and learning process is required to focus on values in the new programs, presenting of values should be made holistically, and the values should be integrated into the objectives. The values involved in the previous programs in a hidden way were classified under main categories such as “justice, friendship, honesty, self-regulation, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, helpfulness.” Additionally, attitudes and behaviors related to main concepts were listed under 35 items. As a result of the study, it was observed that the detailed values presented in programs weren’t associated with units’ objectives and content, which adversely affected the new history textbooks. The program left the transmission of values to the initiative of the teachers. This situation failed the discourses such as centering on the values education, being holistic, associating values with the content, and going beyond the classroom. Thus, it can be stated that the values education which was argued to be centered in the new program has remained unfulfilled.
