Carl Gustav Jung’s psychology studies were raised on the facts that individuals are both universal and subjective. Jung has been busy for a long time asking how any personality forms and he collected his studies under “Psychological Types” to find answers these questions. He aims to establish a “consciousness psychology” by discussing “the different characteristics of consciousness, the attitudes of the cognitive mind against the outside world.” Jung tells an analyst's task is to determine the direction of the psychic energy (life-energy), and develops psychological types to help his analysis for future. According to Jung, psychic energy is found in varying proportions and has two manners: introversion and extraversion. Another factor that is important for these types of behaviors developed by Jung is conscious functions. According to Jung, consciousness has four functions: “thinking, sensation, feeling, intuition”. Individual can experience these four functions, but one of them becomes dominant over time. The functions combined with the direction of the psychic energy enable the person’s personality to emerge after a while. Jung, accordingly, revealed “eight psychological types”. These types, which contribute to the analysis of the world of the individual for an analyst, can also be used in the analysis of the personal positions of literary studies. In this study, Sevinç Çokum's Gözyaşı Çeşmesi / Kırım'da Son Düğün titled novel which was recently published will be examined according to the typology theory of Jung, individuals' inner worlds and spiritual experiences forming personal figures of novel which tells Kırım's history and the story of fascinating love between 1760-1769 years.

The Loss of Reality in the Postmodern Era and Bilge Karasu’s Works

Developments in the field of internet, television, video, radio, camera, satellites, photography, mobile phones shakes the reality in the postmodern era. The postmodern subject is completely surrounded by simulations. The cell phone is indispensable for their life. They are on the mobile phone in a large part of the day. The thousands of simulated images seen on the phone screen are indispensable for their lives. Computer, camera, television, radio, photography are the other simulation tools that surround them. For the subjects exposed to all this, the simulation is more real than the actual reality because these are the things that determine their life. There are hyperrealities in this period that lost reality. In hyperreality, the border between reality and the unreal (dream, representation, simulation) ceases to exist. How does the loss of reality shows its influence in literary works? In literary works, this situation shows itself intensely, in the use of the dream too much. This situation, when it reaches a somewhat further dimension, the reality and the dream world intertwine, the boundary line between the two becomes blurred and starts to erase. Since the criterion of reality and fantasy / fiction is gone, it can not be precisely determined what is reality, what is fantasy / fiction in these works. They are intertwined. Bilge Karasu is one of the writers approaching reality with doubt. That is why, the boundary line between the reality and dream is blurred in his some works. The boundary between reality and dream is destroyed in his works named Guide, Night, Six Months One Autumn, A Long Day’s Evening, “The Man Who Misses Car From Night To Night”, “The Garden of the Departed Cats”, “Dream Fishermen: Kubadabad 1955”.

Theatre is acting of the events already experienced, the events being experienced today and the events that will probably be experienced in the future, in front of the audience by the actors. Among the distinguishing qualities of theatre, it’s properties of momentum, dinamism, energy and vitality can be indicated. From this point of view, it is clearly seen that theatre displays the life itself independently from time and place. In this study Cevat F. Baskut and N. V. Gogol, who maintained their lives in different centuries and different geographies, have been discussed in this manner. Both of the authors regard the theatre as the best way of transfering their eras, for this reason they write important plays by reflecting their artificer personalities to the stage. One of the works which will be examined in this study is Baskut’s play “Before the Thaw” and the other one is Gogol’s play “Inspector”. Both plays which were set pen to paper with artfully pens of writers perfectly reflect their eras like a mirror. In this study it is aimed both to shed light on “today” by presenting those eras more deeply and to reveal similarities between countries and cultures. In order to achieve this aim, sociological and historical examination methods from among examination methods based on external factors and criticism methods used within comparative literature studies were used. On the other hand, it was aimed at reaching concrete inferences since the method’s being consistent and documented are more important than which method of comparative examination techiques is used. In this context, within both plays under the main theme of social disorder, different sub-motives like fraud, deceptiveness, corruption, dishonesty, adulatory, bribery, gambling and favouritism have been investigated and several common similar facts have been found out.

The Lunar Mansions and the Zodiac Signs Mentioned in Turfan Texte VII

The text published in Türkische Turfan Texte VII is an astrological text that contains many Sanskrit and Chinese loan-words. It is quite difficult to understand this text because of the numerous and complex terms it contains. For this reason, the meanings of astronomical terms used in the Old Turkic and mostly of Sanskrit origin are not adequately explained in dictionaries and studies about the text. Although the fact that lunar mansions are listed in order in the text and even it is mentioned in which zodiac sign they appear, it is not understood what these words mean. In order for astronomical terms and their Turkish equivalents to be correctly identified and to be able to solve complexity, the meanings of loan words in these texts must be determined correctly. In the “Old Uighur Turkic Dictionary”, which Ahmet Caferoğlu had prepared, only Rivadi (Skr. RevÀti) term is explained as “a constellation” and Şatabiç (Skr. Şatabhişa) is explained as “one of the lunar mansions”. The same situation is true of the twelve zodiac signs. Only Miş (Skr. Mesa) “Aries” had been detected from these. Other terms are noted as “a star name” without any necessary explanation. In later works, the explanations were transferred from Caferoğlu’s dictionary without correction. However, this explanation is not enough to understand the text correctly. In this study, the terminology of lunar mansions and zodiac signs that have not been fully understood in Turfan Texte VII is investigated.

About “mı” Which is Interrogative

“mI” which is interrogative, stating question that it is word or affix, if it is a word, it is which kind of word is one of the controversial topics of our grammar. Words, regarding their use and positions in a sentence, are definitely transitional. Furthermore, they are considered by some researchers as transitional although they preserve their use and position. The question affix “mI” is one of them. The affix, used as mı, mi, mu, and mü today, as rounded vowels mu and mü in Old Turkish and as only unrounded mı and mi in Old Anatolian Turkish is not only considered as a different type of word category, but also as an affix by some researchers. Researchers have different ideas about this topic. These opinions are remarked with 6 points: 1. Acceptors as affix, 2. Acceptors as preposition, 3. Acceptors as both affix and preposition, 4. Acceptors as adverb, 5. Acceptors as both preposition and adverb, 6. Acceptors as both affix and conjunction. In the Turkish dictionary of Turkish Language Society, “mı, mi’’ is taken as lexical entry, but it is not determined which kind of it. It indicates that “mı, mi’’ is treated in such different kinds or it is not to be determined kind that the issue is worth investigating. We wrote up our this article on the purpose of indicating a viewpoint whether “ mI’’ has a compromised place in our grammar, deciding that it is either an affix or a word and determining what kind of word will be more appropriate if it is a word. Firstly in our article, we mentioned that researchers analysed “mI’’ what kind of it. Then we shared the preferences of the researchers in a chart. Later, we stated the results that we get by expressing our opinion and determination about the subject based on datas.

This work, which aims at finding and processing all of the figures of speech in the Divan of Poet Nef'î, has been also prepared with the thought that the figures of speech in the Divan would also contribute to the teaching of literature. From this point of view, the relevant textbooks of the Ministry of National Education Turkish Language and Literature have been included in the research area. It has been considered to reach an aim by examining both the explanations in the books of figures of speech and the examples in the books of MEB.
Every human being comes to the world with language proficiency and learns the mother tongue thanks to this language ability. From the moment he starts to perceive the natural world around him, he starts to learn mother tongue from his surroundings, especially his mother. This learning activity lasts for a lifetime both in school and outside the school. The person who learns the mother tongue with rules can tend to learn other languages inside of the need. The first thing that comes to mind in the name of the Reality show is the Survivor program, which has reached to a large audience in Turkey with Acun Ilıcalı. Acun Ilıcalı said for his Survivor: “Our program is not similar to others. We developed the Survivor format and put it into performance. My goal is to do Survivor in England and Germany. " As you can see, the overall structure of Survivor is about the language discourse. In our study, it will be investigated how effective the linguistic discourse which is a rumor in Survivor in Turkey. It will be investigated why and which competitors staying longer in the island. Is it because of they are good at using the language or performance. These studies will reveal the attitudes of the spectators on the language used by the competitors. In addition, the words of the competitors, proverbs, idioms, phrases, and cultural items such as local mouthpieces will also be given under the relevant headings. When we investigated the effect of language on our study, "Survivor Competition Language Discussion Attitude Scale" consisting of 13 items was formed.

Bostan aka Sadî-nâme is a literary work on ethics written in 1257 by Sadî, a renowned writer and poet of Persian literature in 13th century. Bostan was written as verse of approximately 4000 couplets. It comprises of an introduction and ten chapters. Every chapter is adorned with stories that have a moral lesson based on everyday situations. Some of the stories told are based on the real life of Sadî himself and some are based on what he had heard or read. Every story ends with different statements of advices. This work has been translated into Turkish and commented on many times since the 14th century on. In this research, the answers for the following questions are to be searched by examining the retranslations -both prose and verse- of Bostan which has a retranslational cycle in Turkish literature: Why was this work retranslated? Did the translators feel the necessity to explain the reasons? How the retranslations were identified and described by their translators? Did they give any clues on whether they would be faithful to the original or pursue another method of translation? Did they mention something about the effects of the period in which the translation was produced? Are there any mentions or criticisms of the previous translations? The translational strategies of the translators of Bostan were analysed beginning with Ferheng-nâme-i Sadî, and Zaifî, Abdî, Mehmet İzzet Paşa, Kilisli Rifat Bilge, Niğdeli Hakkı Eroğlu, Hikmet İlaydın, Yakup Kenan Necefzade, Hicabi Kırlangıç, A. Naci Tokmak and Azmi Bilgin via the paratextual data (covers, prefaces, introductions).

Binary Uses in the Kısasü’l-Enbiyâ Work of Rabguzî

Rabguzî’s work Kısasü’l-Enbiyâ, which is a piece in Khorezmian Turkish has a significant place in the history of language and literature. There are parts written in verse in this prosaic piece. While there are a few copies of the piece, studies are usually based on the copy in London as it is well preserved and complete. The first study on the piece was conducted by Ilminsky (1859). This study is concerned with all copies of Kısasü’l Enbiyâ including ones in private libraries. Many studies which investigate the piece in various aspects have been conducted so far. The purpose of this study is to determine and interpret parts with two or more different orthographies, based on the text published by Aysu Ata. Remarks will be made on whether examples in different orthographies reflect the time the piece was written, in terms of phonetics and morphology. The main purpose is to bring in a different approach about the piece’s linguistic aspects by locating dual usage of the words in the text, and show the phonetical characteristics of the era the piece was written in. Harezm Turkish, derived from Karahanlıca and the transition stage to Cağatayca, has the sound characteristics of two periods because it is fed from both sources. In this point, in the period works, the same word and affix have been encountered in more than one form. In the KE text, this situation became more clear and two different spellings coincided with each other on the same page. Examining the phonetic structure of the work and since it carries a considerable importance in terms of determination of its wirtten period, in this point, main purpose of this study is to determine the dual usage characteristics of KE in the context of phonic and structure information of its written period and to contribute to the current speech existence.

Literature's written and oral products are nearly as old as human history. The reason might derive from humans' need to tell and share about their lives and experiences. We can see this even in the ages of humans in the paintings of the wall of the caves, drawings on rocks and in hieroglyphs. It is possible to come across these cultural shards and motifs in Anatolia, the host of many different civilizations. After the victory of Malazgirt, Turks found a chance to step in Anatolian lands, and in following years they included these motifs in their literature. Turks, who used many elements of Anatolia and their culture in different versions of literature, utilised the image of severed head in their legend tales. This image which existed way before the arrival of Turks, started to appear in legend texts quite often after the Turkish influence following their arrival in these lands. The motif of severed head came to existence in written or oral legend tales in order to describe the hero’s struggle and fight against the enemy and to describe how his head gets chopped off the blow of the enemy and how he picks it up from the ground, keep it under his arm and continues to fight. Turks united the extraordinary situation of severed head with religious intentions. The reason behind it is to add some holiness to the lands Turks conquered under the flag of Jihad. Sometimes it is possible to witness the usage of severed head imagery as a simple description in texts. In our work, we analysed the motif of severed head which was widely used in literature with the arrival of Turks and the different usage of it in those texts.

In this article, the political events in Turkey during the period of 1975-1980 and the political newspapers which emerged at that time emphasized the words preferred by people with different ideologies using the language. The right-left events that took place at that time increased the unrest in the society. However, different political groups have used different words for similar concepts. In fact, this situation, which was present in every period, increased a little more depending on the events that took place in 1975-1980 period. The words people speak on the earth are their worldviews, their political ideas, their gaze, thoughts, etc. Gives tips about. We can say that right-wing writers are usually dependent on tradition and therefore prefer the old words. We can say that left-wing authors prefer new words because they are more innovation-oriented. Along with this, ideologies and advocated ideas play an important role in word preferences. But by generalizing, we can not say that every right-wing writer depends on tradition, or that every left-wing writer is innovative, and we can not say that all the words used by the writers are directly proportional to their political views. In order to be able to understand it better, 7 writers (Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Milliyet and Tercüman) from 4 newspapers with high circulation at that period of 1975-1980 were selected and tried to reveal the relation between the words used by political views. The words preferred by these authors were given in tabular form, and a comparison on a common table was made, and the connection between ideology and word choice was examined.

Therefore, due to such reasons as being the first Turkish explanatory work of Gülistân and being known to be Şem’î’s first work, it has sometimes been subject to analyses by his contemporaries and sometimes has been found to be valuable and beneficial as a poetic work. Poetic explanatory work of Gülistân called Cûy-ı Rahmet written by one of 17th century authors Aksaraylı Hasan Rızâyî in 1669 is the only poetic version of Gülistân as far as today’s knowledge is concerned. Rızâyî stated in the beginning of his work that he wanted to write the poetic version of Şerh-i Gülistân and wanted it to be named and wanted it to be named ‘nazım-ı şerh’. However, ‘Rızâyî did not remain loyal to the original work amd studied Gülistan more and more extensively in his own work despite benefitting much from Şem‘î’s Şerh-i Gülistân. Comparison of Şerh-i Gülistân, a prosaic explanatory work, with Cûy-ı Rahmet, a poetic one is only possible by determining their several similarities and distinctions. Şem‘î’s common style is gathering a short list of words, a couplet, a concise expression or a symbol, providing the meaning through translation via several grammatical expressions. Conversely, Rızâyî takes a long quotation from the source, a whole couplet or verse and gives its translation into Turkish. Furthermore, unlike Şem‘î giving the meaning of the vocabulary within the context, Rızâyî does it by providing short glossaries in the margins of the text. Besides this main technical distinction, considerable points in these two works are the main theme of our study and explanation techniques in the field of Classical Turkish Literature can have remarkable influences in terms of translation works.

Translation is a multi-directional, complex and interdisciplinary act. In literary translation, the translator is responsible not only with accurate translation of the source text in terms of vocabulary and grammatical patterns into the target text, but also with the transfer of the cultural elements between source and target texts. Although the translator often remains invisible, he actually plays a key role. In this study, the alterations, addition and omissions applied to the translated texts from Turkish to French in literature and the reflections of the decisions made during the translation processes in the translated text are discussed on the basis of “Küçük Ağa” by Turkish author Tarık Buğra. This book and its French translation, titled “Le Petit Agha”, are comparatively studied within the framework of the descriptive translation studies approach of Gideon Toury. The book reflects the speech styles of the Anatolian people, swallowing of the words in local dialects, accents and all other cultural elements embroidered into the story line taking place around the Turkish cities Konya, Kütahya, Düzce and Ankara, along with the usage of İstanbul dialect. This study covers three main titles as “transfer of religious elements”, “transfer of idioms and proverbs” and “transfer of proper nouns”. Thus, it aims to explain how the cultural elements are translated into the target text in the light of descriptive translation studies. The study has also found that the translator translated the book directly from the source text and employed no intermediate language.

Translation is an activity with an important role in the recognition of different cultures. Translation activity between Turks and Arabs has been going on for centuries. Translation from Arabic to Turkish, starting from the axis of religious texts, today also constitutes an important place in literary translations. As the amount of translation action increases in quantity, many questions about translation begin to arise in the minds: Is the translated original faithful, is it more or less equivalent for texts with multiple translations, and is there any difference between the source text and the target text, if so why? Of course, it is possible to multiply these questions. The best action that can be taken to find the answer to all these questions is to compare the source text with the target text. Poetry is one of the prominent species among transitions. In particular, the number of poems translated from Arabic to Turkish in the last forty years is increasing day by day. The majority of these translations, made from Arabic to Turkish. Also many poetry were translated into Turkish by French and English languages. However, there are some problems in these translations, both formal and semantic. In this study, the poem "ez-Zairu'l-lezî lem yecî" belonging to Nazik al-Malaika, translated by Nuri Pakdil into Turkish by the French language, was examined comparatively in terms of equivalence with respect to the source text, acceptability and sufficiency, A number of conclusions have been made about the translation made through the language.

In this article, the proverbs we detected in Edigey saga which is not known in Anatolian area but widely told in Turkish noble folks living in the East of Hazar (Tatar,Başkurt,Nogay,Kazak,Kırgız,Özbek etc.) will be examined.Edigay saga is accepted as Tatar Turks’ only epic telling that is completely in verse. In saga, events occur in a wide geography from İdil-Ural to Middle Asia , North Caucasia and Crimea. In this saga, loved and appreciated by Tatar people, Edigey’s battle with it’s enemies , primarily Toktamış, is narrated.Edigey ,who was able to be the sovereign of Altın Ordu even though he wasn’t a descent of Cengiz Han, managed to ruled the country for twenty years.Imposing a tax on Russia by besieging Moscow gave him a well earned fame among Tatar Turks.Sagas ,whose narrators are bards ( yıravlar ),are expected to affect and motivate people. Therefore bards try multiple ways to strengthen the words. One of these ways is undoubtedly proverbs.Proverbs have a significant place in Turkish literature.Affecting and shaking the hearer, these set phrases tells alot meaning with few words. The text which is the subject of this work is Dr. Rüstem Sulti’s “Edige Destanı” issued by Türk Soy Publications in 1998. The work is made up of approximately seven hundred verses and the biggest saga issued by Crimea-Tatars so far.In our work , forty eight proverbs detected in Edigey saga will be examined. These detected proverbs will be compared with Turkey Turkish proverbs and Crimea-Tatar proverbs.

As it is with translation, diplomacy emerges at the point where languages and cultures seek to establish contact. Translation is one of the principal means to get to know what is foreign and to develop sound and strategic relations with it. The western states that were interested in making diplomatic and commercial alliances with the Ottoman Empire, which spans over three continents with its broad territory, realized the significance of translation for this relation and they attempted to train their own interpreters. European states first sent to Istanbul male children of middle age, referred to as “language boys,” with the expectation of them to learn the language where it is spoken, but upon the failure of this initiative they established back home, academies where oriental languages such as Ottoman Turkish, Persian and Arabic are taught. Founded in the 18th century, the Viennese Academy of Oriental Languages is one of those. Young interpreters trained there mainly in oriental languages and cultures were appointed to various positions in the state bureaucracy, and thus they contributed to the advance of Austria’s diplomatic and economic relations with other states. Our study aims to reveal the relation of diplomacy and translation in the example of the Austrian Imperial Academy of Oriental Languages. In this context, first of all, the rise of diplomacy as a concept and institution has been discussed in order to be able to examine the diplomatic relations between the Austrian and Ottoman Empires, and then has been studied the foundation of the Austrian Imperial Academy of Oriental Languages, as well as its growth, functioning and activities during its first period.

The Role of the Prophets’ Parables in Literature Education: Traces of Jonah’s Parable in Buket Uzuner’s Water Novel

In modern literature writers sometimes use historical facts, prophet parables, and occasional events. This allows the narrative described to be rich in depth and connotation. In the line from the modern literature of Divan literature, the prophets’ parables have taken on a teaching function, which has been discussed in a salient way as well as the dimension of the text. While readers expand their imagination with these stories, they take out lessons for their own lives. Although parable comes to mean “story” or “adage” nowadays, the dictionary also includes the meaning of “tracing someone” or “transferring” it. These parables, reminiscent of the reader through the “iqtibas” and the "reference" in Divan literature, can be one of the themes in the work as well as spreading the novel or story in modern literature. Thus, these parables undergo a transformation, continuing from the past to the future. Buket Uzuner, as one of the associations of water in her novel Water, referred to the lie of the Prophet Jonah and realized the above-mentioned transformation and requested the new generation to perceive this episode and the lesson below. Prophet Jonah escaped a danger by taking refuge in the mouth of a fish, repented, and realized that he must show patience to turn his people from their evil. Buket Uzuner in the Water novel also benefited from parable of Yunus in the transformation of her characters; and she requested the new generation to perceive this episode and the lesson below. In this study, the traces of the Jonah’s parable in the Qur’an, the Torah and the Bible will be followed from the sacred books, and the role of the transforming this parable in Buket Uzuner’s The Adventures of Misfit Defne Kaman Water novel will be tried to be explained in the context of the novel.

This contribution endeavours to undertake an analysis of interaction which will attempt to record the depictions of self images and the attributions of others inherent in a narrative voiced by two German-Turkish German Studies students in Istanbul while placing particular emphasis on the analytical concepts of “positioning” and “social categorisation”. The participants were born and raised in Germany and Austria respectively. Due to negative views on the educational potential of Turks held by the majority populations both young women decided to immigrate to Turkey. They regard Turkey as an alternative for a viable future educational and professional path. By using two different excerpts from the interviews, the analysis aims to describe the interactive and linguistic production of social categorisation as well as to demonstrate how and through what means and methods the attribution of characteristics, modes of acts and attitudes is expressed through self- and external categorisations. It will also examine how the positions and aspects of the individual’s narrative identity emerging from the depiction are constructed. The following questions will be examined: which ethnic attributions are relevant in the conversations in terms of self and other categorisation and how are they constructed? Through what characteristic means and methods are they constructed and represented? What role do they play with regard to the expression of social position and how are they evaluated?

Conscience, an universal emotion, takes turn from attitudes or behaviours of individual from troglodyte to modern man. Conscientious rules derives from not objective/legal laws but body of internal/silent laws. Over time, individuals misplaces not only innocency but also conscientious emotions. Generally, it is played part in greed and cupidity beside other factors. From primitive narrations to modern narrations, it is possible to observe fictional reflections of conscience as an universal/humanistic emotion. In this work, it will be examined how to be processed conscience in the stories named "Bi Sevmekten... Bi Ölümden" (by Adalet Ağaoğlu), "Sevgili Nefret" (by Hakan Şenocak), "Geç Kalan Adam'ın Öyküsü" (by Sezai Karakoç), "Unutulan" (by Oğuz Atay) by comparison from place to place. When we look at the four stories around the notion of conscience, it can not be said that none of the people in the story are in an action to hear conscientious objection or exhibit an attitude. Neither the Sakine Çiçek nor Âli Bey’s acts can be interpreted as a crime. What they do not do is judge themselves guilty for the crime, because they are related to their actions with the super-ego/superself. "Geç Kalan Adam" will judge himself for his human sensitivity or conscientiousness, which inherits him from his father; perhaps his conscience will be relieved by financial support for another need. In the "Unutulan" story, the act (the inaction will be more accurate) is a very relative situation, whether or not the modern subject is guilty. He can remember neither the memories nor the values because he is tired/tired of the rush of modern life. When we look at the four stories ("Bi sevmekten... Bi Ölmekten...", "Sevgili Nefret", "Unutulan", "Geç Kalan Adam’ın Öyküsü") around the notion of conscience, it can not be said that none of the people in the story are in an action to hear conscientious objection or exhibit an attitude. Sakine Çiçek and Âli Bey constantly judge their own self, conscience rage. In fact, neither the Sakine Çiçek nor the Âli Bey is an act that can be interpreted as a crime. What they do not do is to blame themselves for guilty, because they are guilty of having to act with super-masters / super-masters. "Geç Kalan Adam" will judge himself for his human sensitivity or conscientious responsibility, which he inherited from his father; perhaps his conscience will be relieved by financial support for another need. In the "Unutulan" story, the act (which would be more accurate if it means being inaction) is a very relative situation, whether modern subject is guilty or not. Especially in the modern era where the collectives they live in are alien to themselves and all traditional values, it can not be mentioned that neither the dead parent nor the ex-wife can be described as a crime either in the eyes of the law or society. However, it is often the case that the voices of one's conscience will dominate the judiciary, the legal judgments of society, or the point of view. Silent laws in the psyche world of the quiche, Âli Bey, Sakine Çiçek and "Geç Kalan Adam" constantly judge the modern essay in the "Forgotten" story from time to time. Sakine Çiçek and Âli Bey constantly blame themselves, while the modern woman in the "Unutulan" story always tries to justify herself. However, it can not be said that the woman in the "Unutulan" story is too selfish. While Sakine Çiçek and Âli Bey are examples of traditional human beings, the woman in the "Unutulan" story is a modern single individual. Modern life can remember neither memories nor their values because they are tired / drowned in the rush of life.

Istanbul Theatre Festival is recognized as one of the most prominent theatre festivals in the world and the most important international theatre festival to take place in Turkey. The festival consists of local and international stage plays as well as dance and performance productions, and hosts many educational side events such as talks, performances, symposiums, exhibitions, master classes and workshops attended by well-known guests and experts. After giving a brief information about the festival’s organization this article discusses with a critical approach two pieces which took place in the Twentieth Istanbul Theatre Festival held between 3‒28 May 2016: The Kindly Ones from the field of theatre and d’après une histoire vraie from the field of contemporary dance. As is revealed by the analysis, the Istanbul Theatre Festival does have a concern about the sociopolitical conjuncture in Turkey and the world, and addresses issues related with actual politics and the contemporary human condition from a humanistic point of view. Greatly occupying the global agenda especially in recent times and turning human values upside down, such concepts are also important for the festival in terms of realizing its artistic mission.

Among the constructions that can be called mold words are proverbs, idioms, verse texts (mani, poetry). Molded words are unmodified structures formed in a certain order. The words in it can not be changed by the same meaning or by other words. For example, we can not say "White money is for black day" instead of " Ak akçe kara gün içindir." Proverbs and idioms are the shortest, purest and most expressive forms of expression of knowledge and experiences that the nation brings from the past, and the national modes of hearing and national culture are the most important indicators. The anonymous artifacts are fixed in shape due to the stereotyping. Poetry texts are also texts fixed in form, form, structure, as prescribed by the organizer. Language teaching and use is an initiative that begins in the family since infancy and continues in the integrity of life. We can speak about language teaching in two different ways, "natural learning used in everyday life" and "grammatical correct / standard use taught in language schools". The poetic dictionaries that give the meaning of the words within the forms of poetry are created with the thought that the poem is easier to memorize. By memorizing poetry it is thought that words will be taught more easily and more effective teaching in language teaching. In the history of Turkish language, verse dictionaries are seen only in Divan poets of Ottoman period and do not hold a lot of numbers. Based on repetition, it is certain that viziered units within the molds will provide faster and more effective vocabulary teaching in language teaching, as well as literary pleasure in children, teaching metaphor and side meanings beyond the basic meanings of the words.

In Deliorman Turkish lifestyle, all of the economic, social and cultural activities are carried on in seperate fields specific for women and men and in rigid structures that are gender-based. In this structure, which supports and functions to ensure the male dominance, music is perceived as a masculine tool and experience because of the fact that it contains an element of pleasure. Musical structure, style and content are compatible with the socio-cultural texture which discriminates between genders and establishes the male dominance. And this socio-cultural structure is fed by the conservative concept of religion and by the psychology of being minority. In this paper, in the context of Deliorman Turkish socio-cultural lifestyle where music plays a function of certification of social order based generally on the gender hierarchy, women whose sexual identities and needs are surpressed and even ignored have been handled. In the course of keeping up the system which is intended by the male dominance, women show how they bottom to top and cope with the oppressive reality of their daily lives over their sexual identities via the folk songs. This study handling the two of these folk songs; Yalabık Shepherd and Uncle Miller forms an estimate of socio-psychological functions of these songs which have obscene content special to women.

A Chaghatay Turkic Treatise on the Craft of Writing from 19th-Century Central Asia written by Muʼnis, entitled Savād-i taʻlīm; this “teaching text” is a guide to calligraphy, describing the preparation of the implements for writing and offering instructions for practical methods of forming the letters of the Arabic script mentioned in this study. The Savād-i taʻlīm begins, after praise of God and the Prophet, and his mentor qāżī ʻAbd al-Laṭīf b. Qāżī Ṣafā, there follows a passage on the reason for the treatise’s composition, and the first half of the work then explains the preparation of the things needed for writing. The pen is discussed at length, beginning with reflections on its importance; the art of writing, too, is praised and described, and then several sections focus on the sharpening of the pen, the preparation of its nib, its ‘testing,’ and so on. The second half of the treatise is devoted to the formation of the individual letters; each is described, at least, each description is followed by a depiction of the letter, often with the ‘points’ used as a measure shown as well. A short ‘disclaimer’ about those letters not addressed individually follows, and a conclusion (khātima) mentions the title of the treatise and affirms its completion. In current study, manuscript of the Savād-i taʻlīm established that text better known to the scholarly world, as an example of a Central Asian writer’s practical meditations on the craft of writing.

Harnâme is a mesnevî of 126 couplets taken from the 15th century divan poets by Şeyhî. There are two different narrations about the reason of its writing in the tezkires: According to Sehî, Âşık Çelebi, Kınalızâde and Âlî, Şeyhî wrote to it to satirize those who attacked him on his way to the village of Tokuzlu given as a fief. According to Latîfî, he wrote to satirize the statesmen envying him. The work of writing the two rumour is understood as "satire". Harnâme, which was accepted by the researchers as the masterpiece of Turkish satirical and humorous literature, has often drawn attention to this aspect. Harnâme is regarded as a work that skillfully accommodates satirical and humorous elements without being vulgar. However, in a work that is accepted as a masterpiece in these matters, wisdom and contemplation, which are the factors that enable satire and humor to succeed in real sense, are not mentioned. It is a fact that an unimaginable humor and satiety can not be fully successful. For this reason, it is not possible to imagine Harnâme's contemplative and witty direction besides the satirical and humorous success of the field. Bu yazıda Harnâme hikmet, felsefe ve düşünce yönünden ele alınmıştır. Short information about the shape, content and writing reason of Harnâme has been given; By giving brief information about wisdom and philosophy, it has been tried to interpret the philosophical background of Harnâme. In the end, it was thought that Harnâme was a donkey symbol / metaphor in the background of Harnâme, thinking and inquiring, seeking answers, trying to find the right information, when it reaches the right information, it misunderstands it and does the wrong job. The donkey symbolizes this person, who has been questioning himself / herself and the environment since he came to the earth and who has acted and acted accordingly.

Analysis of Subjectivity in Literary Translation from Semiotics of Translation Point of View: Analysis of Subjectivity in the Play “Coriolanus” and Translation Evaluation

The aim of this study is to analyze the play Coriolanus by Shakespeare from semiotics point of view and evaluate its Turkish translations from semiotics of translation perspective. To this end, the play Coriolanus originally published in 1623 and re-published by Penguin Books in 1955 was chosen as data collection tool. “Instances theory” by Jean-Claude Coquet (2007) was adopted in the semiological analysis of the original play and striking examples were found regarding “non-subjects” as coined by Coquet (2007). In the categorization of “non-subjects”, the typology system revised by Öztürk Kasar (2009a) based on Coquet and Öztürk Kasar (2003) was used. In reporting the non-subjects in the play, the “components of instance” as termed by Coquet (in Öztürk Kasar, 2012) was also used. Two Turkish translations of the play, one by Halide Edib Adıvar and Vahit Turhan (1945) and the other one by Bülent Bozkurt (1994) were chosen for translation evaluation. “Designificative Tendencies Systematic” developed by Öztürk Kasar (in Öztürk Kasar, Tuna, 2015) was used in data collection procedure for translation evaluation. As a result of translation evaluation, it was found that while subjectivity was preserved in some contexts in the translated texts, translators were exposed to certain designificative tendencies in the translation of certain contexts with non-subject discourse, It was concluded that semiotics and translation complement each other, with semiotics contributing to translation act thereby minimizing the chances of designificative tendencies.

Mythological Elements in Can Yücel’s Poems

Mythology is one of the prominent and rich sources of literature. Mythological elements have been used in poetry and novel as well as in fine arts such as music, painting, sculpture and architecture. Mythological elements have been used via their symbolic powers in literary works by the people who share common points. This situation is one of the reasons why mythological elements have existed for ages. Today, mythology has maintained its existence that influences world and Turkish literatures as an effective element. Can Yücel is both one of the important poets in modern Turkish poetry after 1950s and a translator. In his poetry, he combines different elements such as irony, humour, slang, politics, nature and woman together with mythology. This study aims to trace the myths on the character level in Can Yücel’s poems: “Keçi Masalı” (A Goat’s Tale), “Hıdrellez”, “Yunani Bir Sone” (A Grecian Sonnet), “Pandora’nın Kutusu” (Pandora’s Box), “Seng-i Derya”, and “Prometeus, Bir Hırsız” (Prometheus, A Thief). Archetypal criticism whose job is to identify those mythic elements that give a work of literature a deeper understanding and products of ‘collective unconscious’ is employed to analyse the poet’s use of mythological heroes in his poems. Carl Gustave Jung’s views on archetypes have been taken into consideration in order to understand the poems better. For this reason, the study approaches the poet’s use of mythological elements critically to consider the usefulness of them.

Medicine is a vital profession that directly interests human life and therefore it requires a special attention when compared to the other translation types. The translator’s misunderstanding a medical text can result in a false translation which seems trivial at the beginning but even a little mistake can endanger human life and lead to the death. Because of this, the translation of medical texts must be done by specialist translators who have been translating this type of texts for a long time now. In this study, some methods and strategies that are assumed to help medical translators were introduced as well as giving some examples of source and target sentences from Vander’s Human Physiology Mechanisms of Body Function and its Turkish translation, both of which are listed imporantly among medical student’s books. Among these some strategies and procedures exemplified in this study are borrowing, a kind of borrowing which is transliteration, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence, adaptation and explicitation that are frequently used by all translators for different texts. All these strategies and procedures were analyzed to Show which are included in the translation and which are excluded from the translation by the translator during the translation process in detail. The objective is to minimize the errors in the translation process and in this way to be able to determine the correct strategies and procedures in the translation process.

Recent developments have led to the evolution and dissemination of different types of audio-viusal translation (AVT). It has become harder for translation scholars to follow such developments. These new types of AVT, though similar in some ways to the more traditional types of AVT, also have distinguishing features. Thus, it becomes necessary to equip translators with new skills and expertise in order to be able to pratice new types of AVT. Though it is clear that translators who are trained in AVT need to be acquainted with such new types, the way in which these will be introduced into the curriculum will change according to the institution in question. In light of this information, the following study exemplifies a model module for the introduction of audio description in the AVT classroom. Following an initial section on the theory of audio description and accessibility, the steps that need to be taken to implment the module exemplified have been listed and the resources and terminology exemplified. In a third section the in-class application of the module has been described. In conclusion, the module has been evaluated through a trainers perspective and the fact that this is one possible module that could be utilised in this context has been underlined. The aim of the study is to initiate a platform of exchange among trainers who wish to train their students in audio description and thus entails an effort to update courses in line with market requirements in light of the experiences and know-how of contemporary trainers.

One of the most important names of the Tanzimat literature is the son of Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem and one of the renowned journalist-writers of his era, Ercüment Ekrem Talu, one of the qualified works that have not yet been converted to the present alphabet from the Ottoman Empire. The book is an important piece of the republic's democratic social and political atmosphere that has been revealed with subtle details, satire and exaggeration. The stories that make up the from Tarawih to Sahur progress around several different themes. These are the difficult or funny situations that originate from the West, the symbol of civilization in a sense, or the way in which the lifestyle, perhaps the moral sense of humans, is lowered by humans. What is done in the stories licentiousness centered is similarly a critique of Western morality and alafrangism. The writer only identifies the points he wants to criticize by erroneously establishing them without speaking from the top. This allows him to process the desired point without trying to send him a message. Although some stories are far from convincing, it seems that the author prefers to escape to exaggeration to create humor. In addition to this, it should be underlined that it creates a humorous expression and a strong expression. It is obvious that he has a competent narrative, especially in the kind of theater. It should also be noted that Ahmet Rasim and Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar, which he admires, give works in the same plane and in their quality. It is also necessary to add a critical approach to the author as a success of the writer, who has kept all this behind the details of the political environment of the country, leaving the reader to comment instead of lecturing.

17th century which is evaluated as “disintegration of century” for Ottoman State is a period in which lands lost, political riots took place, incompetent people were appointed to important offices, and it started to lose power more and more. Despite all of these problems, Classical Ottoman Poetry (Divan Literature) had their best moments in the field of both poetry and prose. His work, called Munsheat-i Nabi consisting of the private and official letters of Nabi, who was one of important figures of this period is one of the most significant prose examples reflecting various features of the period. It is possible to reach information about many social, political, cultural and economic features of the period based on the letters taking place in Munsheat-i Nabi. We get very significant data about the literary atmosphere of the period thanks to the literary notes taking place in the letters which Nabî wrote for the poets and statesmen of the period. Again thanks to the literary notes mentioned, It is possible to get certain impressions of what the literary activities of the period were, the nature of the relationship between a poet and another poet and a statesman, the prominent attitudes of evaluation of a poem and a poet, the varieties of the environment in which literary activities were performed, the level of the relationship between the figures in power and the artists of the period.

Füruzan’s first novel Those Born in 47’ written in 1974 is actually about the arrests of 12th March of 1971 military coup. For this reason Those Born in 47’ is more than just a novel, it is an eminent work elucidating an important period of our recent history. In fact Those Born in 47’ is not a novel about the people born in 1947, but the novel of 68 generation; as the author describes the student protests of 1968 and the torture incidents of those who participated in the demonstrations followed by 12th March of military coup. In order to separate her novel from the other novels portraying March 12 military coup and save it from being categorized as such, Füruzan brings to the foreground the date of birth of 68 generation. The author names her novel after the prevailing roles, generations played in a historical period rather than their dates of birth. For instance, generation of 1940’s puts forward Anatolian idealism, generation of 1950’s experiences political separation and has an inclination to the country, generation of 1970’s is politically

The theme of the travel is a universal symbol that man rituals through literary works. The primitive experiences of man are embodied in beliefs that are shaped by a life that is accepted as being alive and naturally presenting life. In narrative-based literary genres, the hero's adventure is a symbolic transformation that expresses cyclical continuity as four seasons of the year and four literary genres. The hero who is suffering from tragic fall with sad fall and grinding and defeat in winter; With comedy in the spring rebirth and romance and summer happiness.
Alice Walker, as a colored author, tends to portray her female characters in the context of feminist approach. Although Walker depicts the leading roles of black women in the American society and their invaluable contributions to Civil Rights, she handles touching stories of females through reflecting their poverty and unfulfilled motherhood regardless of their races. Alice Walker, being an African American writer, stresses the difficulties of being a woman in a society where colored women are exposed to more oppression. Not only does she highlight what to be a black woman is but also enlightens the poverty and the difficulties they have during their motherhood causing them to suffer in a male dominated world. Walker, on one hand, defies patriarchal dominance by reflecting female figures’ capabilities to lead their own lives, on the other, tends to present hegemonized females convicted to be abused by males. In her novels, women are raped, exposed to violence and despised for their female identities. In her novels, the mentally and physically exploited female figures are not let become mothers and they are dependent on patriarchy economically. They are not given equal opportunities which results in a complete despair and their individual competences and sensitivities are never taken into consideration. As a woman, Walker deeply analyzes her figures in order to make her readers hear her voice. Since Alicw Walker portrays the hardships the women encounter, this study aims to examine poverty and unfulfilled motherhood in her novels titled The Color Purple and Meridian.

Although common opinion in works on the history of Turkish literature accepts Namık Ke-mal’s Cezmi as the first historical novel, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, in his Ondokuzuncu Asır Türk Edebiyat Tarihi, records Ahmet Mithat Efendi’s Yeniçeriler as the primary historical novel. Yeniçeriler, being the first-known historical novel of Turkish literary history, remains a work on which not much critical study has been conducted. The reasons for this may be that Cezmi has always been regarded as of priority as a historical novel or that Yeniçeriler has not been transferred into the Latin alphabet until recently. Nevertheless it is noteworthy that Yeniçeriler is mentioned only in passing in Tanpınar’s history of literature while a whole chapter is reserved for Cezmi, as Tanpınar argues that ‘the most significant of historical nov-els are undoubtedly Yeniçeriler (1872), dealing with the Kabakçı uprising of Selim the 3rd’s reforms and Dünyaya İkinci Geliş (1874)’ (470). Another reason why Yeniçeriler remains inadequately appreciated is that the issue of the ‘historical novel’ in Turkish literature has only been brought to attention in the post-1980s period. At the center of the debate on the relationship between history and the novel lie the questions of in which way history can attest to the novel as it is a fictional construct and to what extent the novel can remain loyal to ‘his-torical reality,’ or whether there is such an obligation in the first place. Furthermore, another crucial component of the debate is to determine the attractiveness or appeal of the historical novel to the writer and to the reader. Based on critically analyzing Yeniçeriler, this paper aims to evaluate how ‘reality’ and ‘fiction’ have been constructed and to what extent this construct overlaps with the dominant ideology of the Tanzimat Era, and to open to discussion the ‘anti-jannisary’ concept in light of betrayal.

In this study, the translation of character names and place names and the narrator’s language style in children’s literature are examined using Le Petit Nicolas, a series of children’s storybooks, and its translations. The first book of the series (Le Petit Nicolas—The Little Nicolas) and two stories (La plage, c’est chouette—The Beach is Great and On est rentrés—We are back) from the third book (C’est papa qui decide—It’s Dad who decides) with their Turkish, English and German translations constitute the corpus of this study. The study first focuses on the universal aspect of the stories. In addition, translators' decisions affecting the reception of the texts by the target text readers, particularly those concerning the translation of character names and place names, are treated in this study by comparing the source text with its translations. Jan Van Coillie’s (2014) classification of 10 strategies concerning the translation of character names in children’s literature is used, based on a previous study (Tuna, 2017), to investigate the translators’ consistency in the use of the strategies through different books of the series, as new characters are introduced. Van Coillie’s (2014) classification is also used to evaluate the translation of place names. Another aspect that this study deals with is determining the closeness of the translations to the original child language produced in the source text, their deviation from it, and whether they exceed it or fall behind it. In addition, the impacts of the translators’ decisions concerning the reflection of the child language in the translations are elaborated. On the whole, the fact that different decisions produce different results and manipulate the signs of the text is underlined. Accordingly, the importance of considering the potential consequences of each decision before shaping the target text in terms of not only the translation of more concrete items such as character names and place names but also other particularities such as style is emphasized by taking style as a contribution in itself to the literary work’s universe of meaning and as a factor that affects the text's readability and popularity.

In Cyprus, where the property was owned by Ottomans and was rented to the British in 1878 and was annexed by England in 1914, instead of the Ottoman-Turkish identity, only the Muslim identity was imposed Turks on the island. However, Turkish Cypriots are emphasizing Turkishness in various ways to. They ignore the ban of Turkishness and moon-star. For example, while the traditional Turkish spectator games as Karagöz were acting in Cyprus, the Sümbül Hanım type with "moon-star" was created by the Turks of the island in the headline and also moon-star symbol was placed at the first page of the newspapers such as Akbaba (1897-1898) and Seyf (1912-1914). Since the Balkan War of 1912, the Turkish sense of empathy was re-expressed by the Turkish Cypriot intellectuals during the First World War and the Turkish liberation struggle in Anatolia. The thing that lies behind of this revival is the bankruptcy of the idea of Ottomans and the birth of the idea of Turkism, after the Balkan War as well as the British administration pressure and the outbursts of the Greek Cypriots. Ömer Seyfettin and his friends launched in 1911, Turkish simplification "New Language" movement, also finds support in Cyprus. Besides, the Union and Progress to be the center of Nicosia, the activities of supporters of Enver Pasha, strengthens Turkists on the island. Some of the newspapers and magazines of Cyprus attracted attention and leaded in voicing the idea of Turkism. While nationalist writings and poems were found in the Seyf, which emerged between 1912 and 1914 and had a union world view, these nationalist poems are increasingly continued in Ankebut (1920-1923) and Hakikat (1920-1932) newspapers. Mehmet Fikri, the editor of Hakikat newspaper, works intensely on the feelings of homeland, flag and Turkishness in his writings and poems. Mehmet Fikri's Turkist nationalist poems, which had a significant effect on the idea of Turkism on Turks of the island, prepared the background of the epic-nationalist poetry that would explode with Ozker Yasin in the 1950s.

The foundation date of the British Library (The National Library of England) dates back to the 1750s. The library which had previously served in the British Museum was separated from the British Museum through a legal regulation and was brought to an independent structure under the name British Library.
Today, there are quite a number of writers, who reflect their hybrid identity upon their works. These writers are in a sense the representatives of our society that aims at achieving a multicultural and multilingual world. However, they do not deny the past that shaped their identity. Since language constitutes its most significant part, their language use is, in a manner, the area of tension between these two identities. This article aims at tracing back the notions of multiculturalism and hybridity in literature, in the scope of “identity” and “belonging” within the framework of ethnomethodology and from the perspective of translation studies. In this study, which constitutes the theoretical part of the main problem of our research, intellectual links between translation studies, postcolonial discourse and ethnopsychiatry will be dwelt upon particularly in the light of the said questions in order to ensure that the tides between and the transformations of the identities of hybrid personalities are addressed and studied as an experience of translation, as a metaphor. In short, our aim in this study is to analyse the reflection of stereotyped, normative perception along with collective consciousness and common sense to our social actions (etnomethodology), and to translation as a social act. Translation as a social act can be described as transforming and evolving the existing to a different form. Translation, now, is required to be studied with a multidisciplinary perspective. It can be argued that translation has become a significant metaphor, a key word. It can also be argued that the concept of translation has become a junction in social sciences, and it encompasses all the fields in social sciences as a transdisciplinary approach.

Today, in a rapidly advancing and transforming world, the children continuously encounter technological tools and the mass media. It is probable for children to interact with visual images in this technological setting; however, they need to have specific skills so that they can make sense of the visual images included in this interaction. The children with visual reading skills in addition to traditional skills will interpret the external world more comfortably. While visuality has always been influential in daily life, it was not given much importance in education before. The students either did not come across visual tools in instructional settings or they were not able to comprehend them properly. The importance of visual literacy has become more pronounced when visual tools have become a part of educational settings since knowledge of how to read visual images is crucial in comprehending and interpreting them. Based on this, adding the acquisitions of “Visual Reading and Visual Presentations” in addition to basic skills such as listening, speaking and writing to Primary Education Turkish Teaching Program (Grades 1-5) implemented since 2005-2006 academic year is an important step in training individuals in line with the needs of the modern world. With the help of visual literacy skills, students will be able to gather information about the visual elements encountered both in daily life and education and they will be able to make logical and affective inferences about objects. This study, a review, intended to discuss visual reading based on various findings so that students can read, interpret and evaluate visual images when they encounter them.
