Proof is an effective way of doing mathematics and, it comprises high quality of reasoning. In addition to its major role in validating a mathematical argument proof supports the teaching-learning processes in many different ways. Above all, proof promotes critical and creative thinking. It serves as a means to explore relationships between mathematical notions and, thus, fosters the development of students’ conceptual understanding. Proof creates environments in which students synthesise their prior knowledge and use them through deductive chains of reasoning to discover a new one. However, previous studies indicated that both pre-service and in-service teachers posses a limited understanding of this notion. In this respect, most commonly cited limitation is that many teachers tend to accept specific examples and empirically-based arguments as a valid proof. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on proof and proving. We illustrate logical principles of mathematical proof and explain salient aspects of proof techniques, such as proof by mathematical induction. Then, we provide a comprehensive review concerning the teachers’ conceptions as to the role of proof and their subject-matter understanding of this notion. The paper concludes with a brief summary that brings recommendations to improve teachers’ understanding of proof and proving.

Soundpainting is the multidisciplinary live composing sign language for Musicians, Dancers, Actors and Visual Artists created by Walter Thompson in 1974. Usually The Soundpainter (the composer) standing in front of the group communicates a series of signs using hand and body gestures indicating specific and/or aleatoric material to be performed by the group. The Soundpainter develops the responses of the performers, molding and shaping them into the composition then signs another series of gestures, a phrase, and continues in this process of composing the piece. Soundpainting has attracted a lot of performers with its performance dimension. When we look at some of the studies conducted, the deficiencies in the dimension towards educated children are striking. This study is aimed at revealing the problems that Soundpainting educators encounter in children's music discipline in Soundpainting training and suggestions for solutions. Research is a descriptive study and data were obtained by structured interview questions. Findings were obtained through questions directed to trainers participating in the International Soundpainting Interactive Conference in Tours, France, in 2016. In the analysis of data content analysis was used. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that children are improvising in their soundpainting lessons and are inadequate in producing ideas, having difficulty remembering their syntax and some gestures. In addition to this, the result shows that children are shy when doing Soundpainting is emphasized by the trainers. Because of the scientific works written in the field of Soundpainting is still very few, it is thought that this original work will shed light the educators who want to work in the field of Soundpainting.

Tekışık (1987) defines that the teaching profession is a cultivation art for a beneficial, constructive, creative, good person and good citizen who is always useful to the family, the environment, the nation, the state and the homeland. Because of this feature, it is called a sacred profession. But today, perceptions about this profession are different. In this research, the perceptions of the teachers' professions were evaluated within the context of internal and external perspectives. The third sub-problem that tries to determine how the teaching profession is in the context of past and present was also assessed under these two dimensions. The study was carried out with the phenomonal approach from the qualitative research designs by centering the perception of the teaching profession. For this purpose, it was interviewed with 25 teachers who were working and retired at senior years 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21 and over by criterion sampling method. The reason why the measure is the seniority year is that the perception of the teaching profession is to be considered from the point of view of teachers who have experienced in different years this profession. The interviews that were recorded with reference to the created questions to collect the data were subjected to descriptive analysis, and they were analyzed and detected. As a result of the analyzes, it was seen that teachers tried to explain the perceptions of their professions in terms of internal and external perspectives. Teachers who evalatued their professions in terms of internal perpectives were expressed that they trivialised the their professions themselves. The causes of this situation were expressed as "negative economic and material situation, the change and development of the ways of technology and information transportation, not improving themselves and inappropriate movements, not being able to adapt to new philosophies and innovations, fail to satisfy, bureaucracy, not starting the teaching profession at an early age, being unable to be idealistic because of the wear of teachers and dislike/doing forced the profession.
The purpose of the research is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that will determine the philosophical attitudes and behaviors of pre-school children. For this purpose, firstly the literature of philosophy and pre-school education were reviewed and then the opinions of 11 experts were taken and the items were rearranged in line with the feedbacks. The checklist was applied to 200 children attending the kindergarten of primary schools located in the district of Kecioren in the province of Ankara. As a result of the analyses, 4 of the 33 items (9, 14, 19 and 25 items) were excluded from the checklist for the reason that the item discrimination index was below 0,30. Item discrimination indices and point double-range correlation coefficients for items were re-examined in the 29-item checklist. As a result of the analyzes made, it is seen that the items are at the level of difficulty that can be found in the checklist and are distinguishable at medium and high level. In addition, when the point double-range correlation coefficients are examined, it is concluded that the correlation values are acceptable. The internal consistency of the checklist for determining the philosophical attitudes and behaviors of pre-school children was calculated with KR-20 and the KR-20 score was 0.90. In this context, the reliability of the test is very high in terms of internal consistency. When the item difficulties were deemed as homogeneous, it was determined that the reliability coefficient of KR-21 calculated as 0,89 was high. When the control list is

This scale development study was prepared to determine to what extent teachers, who make use of media tools in teaching environment, can perform effective media applications in their classrooms. In this study while preparing scale items, ıt was benefited a booklet in the name of "The 12 Basic Ways to Integrate Media Literacy and Critical Thinking into Any Curriculum. This booklet was for teachers who are interested in using media literacy in their classroom curricula. After reviewing the literature, a 5 point likert-type draft scale consisting of 52 items were employed and the opinions of 3 Social Studies Teachers, 5 Primary school Teachers and 2 Turkish Teachers, who are experts in their field, have been asked. "Effective Media Education Scale (EMEÖ)" was prepared for pre-application and applied to 108 teachers for last editing. In the pre-application, 8 items were removed from the scale that the teachers found "not suitable". The 44-item scale was applied to 478 teachers in total consisting of 242 primary school teachers and 236 teachers of different branches who were employed in 15 primary and secondary schools located in Van province and district. In the analyzes made after the application, the scale items were reduced to 31 items. The construct validity of the scale was determined by factor analysis. As a result of the factor analysis, the Kaiser-MeyerOlkin(KMO) value was found to be 0.96 and Barlett’s test significance value was established to be 0.00. It was found to have four factors explaining 60 % of the total variance of the scale. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha) value estimated for the reliability analysis of the scale was obtained as α=0.961. These values reveal that the scale is a valid and reliable scale.

Quantum learning is assessed as the synthesized form of many new theories that are created by using quantum physics developments. The Quantum Learning approach is based on the principles of uncertainty, probability and completeness. Quantum learning outcomes are based on probabilities rather than definite and clear representations. It approaches events with a holistic perspective and emphasizes that the events affect each other and that they do not be separated from each other. In 2004, MEB took the quantum paradigm and the Cognitive-Constructivist approach as the basis of science philosophy instead of Newton, and prepared the geography curriculum according to this understanding. With the quantum learning approach, the student acquires geographical knowledge and gains the ability to evaluate any geographical visuals from different angles. Teaching geography with quantum learning can gain students ability to overcome problems, to think freely, to analyze events in depth, creativity and flexibility. It is difficult to predict precisely the objectives of the geography teaching program prepared according to the quantum paradigm, but probabilities can be determined by taking into consideration. This understanding requires that geographical event and problems be assessed according to the environment and circumstances in which they occur. The student should be brought to the position of the subject who produces and uses information from the state of the information loaded object. Students should gain critical thinking skills, scientific inquiry skills. Students should be encouraged to regularly meet and face real life problems and conflicting conditions. The learning environment should be made fun and the learning should be permanent. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of quantum learning on teaching geography. Using the descriptive scanning method in this study, the contributions of using quantum learning in geography teaching will be discussed after focusing on quantum learning.

candidates regarding the basic principles of children's literature. The study was carried out during the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. Participants of the study constitute 105 teacher candidates who are studying in Turkish Language Teaching 3 and 4 classes registered in the Faculty of Education of a university located in the Central Black Sea Region. There search was designed in a screening model. Papers were distributed to the Turkish teacher candidates who had taken the lesson of children's literature in order to collect the data of the study and the candidates were expected to write the characteristics of the basic principles of children's literature. Findings obtained in there search were evaluated according to the "Evaluation of Children and Youth Literature Works" developed by Sever (2014). It has been seen that the level of proficiency of the Turkish teacher candidates regarding the formal characteristics of children's literature is strong. It is possible to say that the competency status is not strong in terms of content construction and components that constitute the content.Teacher candidates agenda for the content of children's publications has strongly appeared in such that the boks should carry the advice and to create opportunity for educating child. This shows that teacher candidates have developed a beneficial look towards children's books. It is evident that the afore said result is teacher candidates will be ineffective in addressing today's children and young people to encouraging children's reading and reading habits. In the light of there search results, some suggestions have been made to contribute to the development of candidate teachers in the context of basic principles of children's literature. Furthermore, it is emphasized that policies of teaching children's literature should be observed in this frame. The place of children's literature in the education programs of the education faculties, the reference books, the selected sample reading texts and the teaching staff members' attitudes / thoughts towards children's literature and such similar topics become the subject of academic interest has been suggested

Language is one of the most important gains providing mankind exist. It is the most basic tool for both individual and social development and survival in a society. In the environment where the person comes to the world, the mother tongue is accepted as the mother tongue. People live with a sense of belonging, mostly based on their mother tongue, and put it at the center of their socialization. It is anticipated that people will continue education and his later life in his mother tongue. However, as in other countries of the world, the mother tongues of some ethnic elements can not be used especially in education and training in Turkey, and the deprivation of rights is becoming a source of restlessness. In this study, it has been tried to evaluate the teaching of mother tongue and education in mother tongue by taking into account the opinions of political and non-governmental organizations, international agreements and relevant provisions of Turkish Republic Constitution. As a result, it has been seen that, when the mother tongue in Turkey, the education of different languages or the education and training in different languages are taken into consideration, a discourse which is influenced by the ethnic, social and political belongings rather than the communication, social, cultural and pedagogical reality of the country is seen. Excessive emphasis on the teaching of mother tongue and mother tongue is in the form of approaches that do not adequately take into account those who can not teach with their mother tongue and do not adequately reflect their reality. While the idea of teaching in the mother tongue is supported, the practical difficulties of education in different languages and the damage that the country integrity based on common communication will see in the near and far future have not been sufficiently taken into account. Furthermore, it has not been adequately stated that the use of terrorism and violence for ethnic rights, including the use of mother tongue, has greatly increased the variances. It is stated that these approaches can not provide communication, understanding and understanding; It is emphasized that language is the most important means of communicating people in front of being a value of ethnic belonging, that other differences including language should be considered more surrounding, and that all these should be taken into consideration in the context of country integrity.

Writing skills based on the transfer of emotional thoughts, wishes or dreams in writing can be considered as multi-layered and high-level language skills with regard to use basic thinking skills at a high level. In this respect, the development of writing skills has become an important topic in the field. Considering literature, it is clear that complaints about the inability to improve writing skills are so intense that new methods and techniques are needed to develop this skill. On the other hand, "attitude" and "self-efficacy perception" draw attention as two important concepts of literature related to teaching. There are frequent researches on attitude and self-efficacy perception in various fields and the effects of various variables on them. In this study, the effect of the "word net method", a writing method, on the writing and self-efficacy perception for writing was searched by the above reasons. For this purpose, an experimental study was carried out. Pre-test and post-test applied patterns were used. Self-efficacy perception test and attitude test were applied for writing before application. Fifty-three sixth-grade students in two classes performed writing application based on word net method for six weeks, and then attitude and self-efficacy perception tests were applied. Considering the differences of pre-test and post-test, it was seen that there was a meaningful difference between students' attitudes towards writing and writing self-efficacy perceptions before and after the formal process. The results show that the word net method has a positive effect on the attitudes towards writing and self-efficacy perceptions of the sixth-grade students. Based on these results, it can be suggested that the word net method is more widely used in teaching writing. In addition, in Turkish literature, the term "cluster method" can be suggested because it is shorter and likely to attract students’ attention.

This study intends to examine views of Turkish EFL instructors on critical pedagogy. The participants (N=9) were experienced instructors working at two Turkish universities. This study was designed as qualitative and descriptive including open-ended questionnaire. The participants were informed that they would be interviewed about critical pedagogy. They were given detailed information about the content of critical information. After this stage, they were given open-ended questions. 12 experienced instructors from two Turkish universities were asked whether they used aspects and dimensions of critical pedagogy in their classrooms. The data were analyzed using inductive content analysis. Inductive content analysis allows researchers to discover new concepts while examining the data. In line with this approach, the data obtained from the participants were analyzed in accordance with the aspects and dimensions identified in critical pedagogy. The findings of the study show that the participants avoided using on-the-agenda topics to discuss in classroom settings since certain topics, particularly political issues, were found risky. The participants tended to follow the topics covered in course books. Therefore, some discussion topics on the agenda were consciously framed, primed and selected. Teachers can take initiatives and warm up learners by presenting less risky topics to help them adapt themselves to topics not represented in course books or curriculum. In addition, teachers can show learners videos about how students from other cultures debate risky or taboo topics. This kind of application can help them take these as role models. Teachers should endeavor to create a democratic environment for learners to have the opportunity to discuss topics identified in critical pedagogy. In future studies, critical pedagogy in ELT can be initiated at primary schools so that a democratic culture can be developed at early ages to take action, responsibilities, and initiatives. Adoption of this pedagogical approach may activate new paradigms and parameters for both teachers and learners in foreign language teaching context.

Motivation is such a complex term which cannot be explained just with one word. There are many factors that affect language learners’ motivation. Based on my own experience in English language teaching university level English language learners in Turkey seem very willing to learn English. They regularly attend English classes and they seek for private English language courses. For this reason, it sounds interesting to understand which scales contribute to the English language learning motivation of the participants. This study aims to find the factors that affect adult language learners’ motivation at a university – affiliated vocational school in the west of Turkey through a questionnaire with 26 items and 200 participants. The results of the study indicate that instrumental orientation for future expectations, integrative orientation, like, enjoyment and desire, foreign residence, favourable attitudes to target culture, instrumental orientation to be respected by others and anxiety are the factors that affect participants’ motivation in language learning. In addition to this, factor scores indicate that the most important factor for the participants is instrumental orientation for future expectations and the least important factor is anxiety. The results of the study provide an insight related to instrumental and integrative orientations of the participants and some other motivational factors related to foreign residence, like and enjoyment of learning English and anxiety.

The purpose of this research is to determine the values in Mustafa Kutlu's stories published after 2000 and to determine how these values can be used in Turkish language teaching. In the research, document review, one of the qualitative research methods was used. "Descriptive analysis" was used in the analysis of the values that were indexed at the end of the document review. 12 story books published between 2001-2016 were examined using Turkish Value Form (TVF) consisting of 40 values prepared in the direction of 4 expert opinions and they were quoted from the stories after the existing values were determined. In the analysis process of the data, the values determined by the reviewing method are classified, handled under separate titles and frequencies are given in the tables. The page numbers of the works on which the values are processed, the titles of the works and the frequency of the handling were given in the tables prepared separately for each value. As a result of the study, it was determined that 32 values (being fair, respect for unity of family, friendship, peace, being scientific, courage, generosity, industriousness, respect for the environment, solidarity, democracy, religious values, sensitivity, honesty, decency, aesthetics, sacrifice, tolerance, chastity, communication, austerity, compassion, hospitality, valuing being healthy, respect, love, responsibility, cleanliness, patriotism, helpfulness, self-confidence, freedom) were handled in different frequency. In the analyzed works of Mustafa Kutlu32 values were found to be handled 733 times. In Mustafa Kutlu's stories, it was determined that "religious value" (11, 45%) was the most handled. This value was followed by helpfulness (10, 23%) and love (6, 13%). As a result of the studies and the results done on the field, it was determined that Mustafa Kutlu's stories can be used in value education.

In this study, a scale was developed that could be used to determine the reading cultures of student groups and profession groups at different levels of education other than primary school. When looking at the literature, the attitudes about reading, habit, perception, self-efficacy and so on. It was seen that there were scales measuring the concepts but not a scale that could measure reading culture. For this reason, it was the aim of this study to develop a 5-point likert type measurement instrument for describing and measuring reading cultures and to demonstrate the validity and reliability studies of this tool. Firstly, 49 items prepared by researchers were presented to expert opinion. Expert opinions and a preliminary 51-item scale draft were applied to 379 teacher canditates in different departments of a faculty of a state university and validity and reliability studies were carried out. Statistical package program was used for analysis of data in the study. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of your scale is ,89 and Bartlett's Sphericity Test value [χ2 = 4221,390; Df = 435, p <.000]. Factor analysis was performed after the appropriateness of these measures to the factor analysis was determined. As a result of the factor analysis, a 5-point likert type scale of 30 items was developed by eliminating the items with low factor values. Scope validity of the scale was determined by taking the expert opinions of 13 academicians and 5 Turkish teachers. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the relationship between the sum of the items in the scale and the factors. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was found to be ,90. It can be said that a valid and reliable scale is obtained as the result of the study in the direction of these findings. The scale called the Reading Culture Scale (RCS) was determined to be a valid and reliable instrument that could be used to measure reading cultures of groups of students and professions at different levels of instruction other than primary school.
