The story of Joseph described in Torah, the Bible and the Qur'an is one of the most important, dramatic, influential and exemplary story in the history of human being. Therefore, it has been an inspiration to many authors for years. This article examines and compares the two different stories of Joseph written approximately 500 years apart in terms of their "Writings", "Organizations", "Sources that they were fed", "the Heros", "Understanding of God and Prophecy" and ""Located motives" through the lens of East (Islam) and West (Christian) civilizations. This story that is described in the holy books mentioned above actually contains religious advices. But that story is not merely a religious advice. It also sheds light on the beliefs, family relationships, lifestyles and psychological status of people living in a particular geography and it gives important information regarding certain events occurred during that period. The main sources of these two books are broadly searched. Then it focuses on how both Hamdullah Hamdi and Thomas Mann benefited and fed from the sources most important of which are Torah, the Bible and the Qur’an. Also, how much they are reliable to them while writing their books and how their societies were affected by these sources are another point of discussion. Finally, this article shows important differences and similarities between these books.

Niyâzî-i Mısrî is among the poets who has most-commented poetries. One of the comments which is written for Mısrî’s poetry as a product of tekke (dervish lodge) poetry belongs to Mustafa Azbî, a sufî poet of XVIII th. century. Azbî is the palace sergeant who was in charge of bringing Nîyazî-i Mısrî into exile in Rodos. However, because he was affected by Mısrî’s inner characteristics, sergeant Azbî Mustafa laid down his job, attached himself to Mısrî, became his dervish and served him for about twenty years. Apart from his works Dîvân and Dîvân-ı Tahmîs-i Niyâzî-i Mısrî, Azbî has a work titled Şerh-i Gazel-i Mısrî which is the topic of this article. The only copy of Şerh-i Gazel-i Mısrî that we could confirmed is registered at Suleymaniye Library, Hacı Mahmut Efendi Collection number 3056. The commentary composed of 43 folios. In this article, firstly Azbî’s life and work is mentioned in a detailed way; then, transcripted text is fallowed by evaluation of the work’s description, scribal, content, method and expression technique. Azbî, the commentator who explains basic issues of sufism (tasawwuf) briefly from the aspect of unity of existance theory (vahdet-i vucûd) within the frame of the meaning of the couplet, discusses spiritual journey to be a perfect human-being (insan-ı kâmil) by using stories and metaphors.
The Persian work Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā about of Karabela event, which was written in 908 A.H. (AC. 1502) is a book by Huseyin Vāiz-i Kāşifi. Āşık Çelebi, one of the most important figures of 16th century Turkish literature, is famous for his work Meşā'iru'ş-Şu’arā in which he wrote about poets. He is also a prominent translator from Arabic and Persian into Turkic languages. He translated Kāşifi’s Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā into Turkish in 953 A.H. (AC. 1546). Afterwards, he revised this translation and gave it its final form. His choice for translating this work was probably due to his being “Seyyid”, a descent from the Prophet Muhammad. It can be seen that the text that emerged as a result of the translation was composed with an artistic concern. Thus, an important work appeared in Turkish prose literature. Here, the translator behaved just like a poet, having benefited from arts related to both form and meaning. As the translated text is compared with the source text, some deductions can be reached from the translator’s methodical practices. That is to say, the translator has followed a certain method by considering the target group while translating the work. In this method, some practices such as word substitution, summarization, expansion, elimination, addition and localization are worth mentioning. In this article, it has been shown with various examples how are the methods of Āşık Çelebi in Rawzatu'ş-Şuhadā Translation. In addition, Āşık Çelebi's style and mistakes in this translation are briefly mentioned. Therefore, the translation has been introduced with its main features.

Rami gave place to a lot of names and qualities of the Prophet in his na’t. In the na’t, Prophet’s miracles and his ascension to the Miraj are also mentioned. In this article, Na’t has seventy eight couplets translated into Turkish and Prophet Mohammed appraised with his character. The meter of this na’t, which was written in eulogium verse form, is Feilâtün/ Mefâilün/ Feilün. This na’t has different features than the other classic na’ts in Turkish literature. The na’t starts with the Armageddon moment. The poet gives his possession to dreams by abandoning hope because of troubles and starts to tell his own weakness. When he faces death he shouts out “I became miserable, help me”. At that very moment he feels a hand agile and quick as fire. He prostrates himself before this judicious shah, who lended a hand to him. The poet asks to this person, who reached him when he was in trouble, whether he is Hızır or not. With the answer he gets, he continues describing the man at length, tells his miracles and his ascension to Miraj. In the final couplets, the poet pleads for his mercy, and wants his intercession with thousands of failures and prayers. He presents thousands of salawats to the Prophet.

The second document is dated 1934. It shows the interest of Türk Tarih Kurumu (Turkish Historical Society) in the subject. The third document and the fourth document annexed is about first studies of the TTK and Muallim M. Cevdet in the area of archiving. Particularly fourth document shows how Mehmed Cevdet is closely acquainted with the Turkish archives. It also contains recommendations for the protection of archive documents. Fitht and sixth documents dated 1935 show the attempt that Muallim M. Cevdet initiated has been progressed. According to the documents, the Turkish Historical Society supported the first studies in the area of archiving. This is the result of Muallim M. Cevdet's efforts. This type of marriage is still a hot topic today, most widely discussed all through the history of Judaism as well. In this presentation the roots, religious and traditional bases, the reasons behind levirate marriages will be discussed along with economic, social and psychological consequences.
In Islamic world some orders are based on Hz. Ebu Bekir and some orders are based on Hz. Ali. The orders which are based on Hz. Ali are generally named as Alevi-Meşreb. The orders which practice Zikir vocally are also characterized as Alevi. Hz. Ali is assigned as the master of the people who practice vocal Zikir. The Galibis who practice Zikir vocally accept that they belong to the Hanefi order and also Alevi in spirit. The founder of the order is Galip Hasan Kuşçuoğlu. With the decision of the spiritual council, as the unification of the Kadiri and Rufai ordes at August 1993, the Galibi Order is given to Galip Hasan Kuşçuoğlu. It is believed that at that time, in that council there were spiritual leaders like Seyyid Abdulkadir Geylani, Seyyid Ahmed Kebir Rufai, Şeyh Ahmet Yesevi, Şeyh Ahmed Kuddusi. Kuşçuoğlu passed away in 2013. After his passing the order did not disband, his caliphs Ali Yetkin Şekerci and Atıf Uzunömeroğlu were accepted as the new Sheiks of the order. In some cities where the Galibis are working, discussions are made and in some cities Ali Yetkin Şekerci and in some cities Atıf Uzunömeroğlu are accepted as the Sheiks. All Galibi dervishes show great respect to both Sheiks. The places where the Galibis are practicing their prayers are called “Kitap Sünnet ve Asra Uygun İbadethane” (Place of worship). The Galibi dervishes are calling these places as Dergah. In the Galibi Dergah, there are twelve-angled and eight-angled decorations. It is guessed that the 12 angled star represents the 12 orders and the 8 angled star represents Seljuk star.

It is understood that the Arab poets have benefited much from the parables in the Qur'an and the striking motifs in these parables in the transmission of emotion and thought. These parables are the indispensable sources of Arabic poetry with their exemplary messages, interesting characters and events. The poets who open a passage to the Qur'an through various motifs in the parables have conveyed their feelings, thoughts and designs in a short and concise way and also have enabled the association of profound meanings in the listener who is already acquainted with parable. Having a privileged position in the world literature, the Joseph parable has also attracted interest in Arab literature. A tradition of poetic and prose narration based on the principle of reproducing the story by adhering to the main frame as in Iranian and Turkish literatures has not arisen in Arab literature. Parable was especially used in poetry in the form of use of elements and motifs that the poet believes to correspond to i

Comparing the contents of education before and after the modern period, it is possible to say that there is a distinct diffrence each other. The reason for this is that the meaning related to education and religious education has changed. Education was also entirely religious because religious influence was stronger in human and world view. Therefore, the content of education was determined in this direction. In the modern era, the main factor that drives education is the economic and industrial order. Educational expectation of this changing main factor is to train i

The Turkish Republic was founded inplace of Ottoman Empire which was one of the largest and longest lasting empires in history. Although Ottoman Empire was a religious state, Turkish Republic defined itself as a laic state. However, the Turkish Republic is an exeptional state among many countries established in Ottoman geography in terms of taking over military, religious, cultural and social institutions of the Empire. The transformations of these institutions from religious to secular character brought about a long-problematic process in relation to Turkish modernization. (from Tanzimat in 1839 to today). The most perfect example of this phenomenon is the Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı (the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs, henceforth referred to as the Diyanet). For a long time, since it was trapped religion and state, the Diyanet has been wobbling from religious to secular identity in the framework of the laic system. In comparison to other religious administrations in Ottoman Empire, it can be said that the Diyanet is only officially surviving religious institution as in spite of the historical roots partly based on Ottoman era during the last eighty-seven years. This article examines the Diyanet in relation to these aspects. I will examine historical roots, developments, and current situation of the Diyanet. I will also analyze the structure of the organization of the Diyanet, its position in Turkey’s laic system, and current different approaches about it by the Sunnis and the Alevis in Turkey.

An Evaluation on the Interpretation of the Quran by Musa Carullah (1875 – 1948)

The interpretation of the Quran in the Tatar language, known as the lost interpretation since the years, by Musa Carullah of Tatar Turks has been studied in this paper. Because, Musa Carullah was widely influential in not only his lands, but also the broad geography from India to Finland; from Siberia to the North Africa in his era. His interpretation of the Quran is deserved to be studied for that he was a personality trying to solve the problems of the Muslims in the light of the Quran and Sunnah at every phase of his life. As known, approach of Musa Carullah to some topics of Kalam (science of discourse), Tafsir (interpretation of the Quran) and the Usul al-Tafsir (method of interpretation) was beyond the tradition. However, it has been learnt through this study that his interpretation of the Quran doesn’t reflect general characteristics of his other works. Briefly, as expressed by him, he benefited comprehensively from all the previous Tafsir sources and didn’t go beyond the literal meaning of the words. He remained far from the approach which could cause dispute. In the linguistic regard, the language of his interpretation is more fluent than that of the past interpretations. He has used complete sentences rather than broken sentences in his interpretation.

An Evalution on Ibn Hajar’s Defence on Bukhari’s Narrators Who Accused of Lying

Although Bukhari declared that he only had included authentic hadiths in Sahih al-Bukhari, it is known that many of the narrators of hadith have been criticized. However, Ibn Hajar stood up for the most of the Bukhari’s narrators in his book which is called Fathul Bari Sharah Sahih al-Buhari and it’s introduction Hedyu al-Sari. The subject of this article is the Bukhari’s narrators who are accused of lying and who are defended by Ibn Hajar in his book Fathul Bari Sharah Sahih al-Buhari. This article includes both İbn Hajar’s methods and arguments that he used on defending these narrators and other critics’s opinions about them. These opinions have been discussed with a comparative method. Ibn Hajar’s attitude toward these narrators is studied. Also, it was analyzed to find whether any of the narrators were unfairly criticized or not and to detect if there was anyone who is hard to advocate for. The investigation we conducted showed us that eleven narrators of Bukhari were accused of lying. According to many critics, two of these narrators are liars; their hadiths can never be trusted. Ibn Hajar also accepted that these two are liars. Two narrators are accused of lying because of sectarian bigotry, personal enmity of some critic. Another narrator is accused of lying due to name similarity. These three narrators are very trusted by many critics. There is not enough evidence on whether the other narrators are liars too. However, they have flaws such as making mistakes, forgetfulness, confusion, dementia, taking hadiths from untrustworthy or lying narrators. These narrators’s stories are not considered authentic according to classic hadith rules. This means there are also weak hadiths in Sahih al-Bukhari.

Talcott Parsons’s sociology of Christianity contitutes the main point of this article as one of the most important functionalist sosiologists. This article includes partial information about his general theory of religion. According to Parsons principles of West and American modernization arise from Christianity from an evolutionarist perspective which is formed by historical and empirical data. There are five chapters in the article. In the first part there are Parsons’s point of view about religion and Christianity, general information about his studies on Christianity, also his ideas about the first period of Christianity. In the second part information on Parsons’s comparisons of East and West Church can be seen. His ideas about the effects of Protestantism especially Calvinism on modernization have been descriptively explained in the third part. The next part is about his views on American Christianity and the pioneering role of America on economical and political modernization. In the fifth and result seciton what Parsons think about religion in modern society is being criticaly considered. The aim of this work is reminding how can be contibutory the Parsons’s functionalist and Durkheimian paradigm. Otherwise emphasising the hesitation of using “civil religion” and “secular religion” terms when he identify holiness and spirituality is another aim of this study. Lastly, the idea of Parsons’s sociology of Christianity has a subjective role on legitimating American modernization or 20th century American society is another crucial point.

According to Islamic law, also breast milk creates a continuous ban to the marriage like consanguinity and marriage relationship. Although Islamic law, with verses and hadiths, always and clearly notes that marriage is prohibited during breastfeeding, it gives place in a limited way to conditions under which a prohibition of marriage occurs. Due to the variety of hadiths and different interpretations of verses, conditions identified by the nas are disputed, as well. Both our classical sources and many of the recently carried out academic studies analyse the marriage ban depending on the breast milk without systematisation and nas (verse and hadith) and sisterhood of milk was identified according to their knowledge of Islamic law and level of the scientific knowledge and jurisprudence methods. In this article marriage ban due to breast milk was examined systematically in terms of mother, milk and children. During the study the supposedly occurence of the marriage ban by dropping breast milk to the eye, ear and nose is evaluated in the classical data sources together with the verdicts of the anatomy of modern medicine, pharmacology, chemistry and food engineering. Besides, such as nasogastric catheter and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy new feeding patterns were researched whether they make up a ban to the marriege or not. In addition, adding medicine, water and food to the breast milk, mixing the mothers’ breast milk and making yoghurt or similar food from the breast milk are analysed according to classical sources and recent and modern scientific studies. Today’s studies have revealed that prohibitions on marriage in breastfeeding should not be determined according to the amount in the mix. This interpretation is valid for mixes where the structure of breast milk is maintained or changed.
