There exist some issues related to the teaching and learning of Turkish in the Turkish language centers. The aim of this study is to identify the problems with learning Turkish at Yunus Emre Institute in Jordan in the light of the perceptions of those learning Turkish as a foreign language. Many studies have been conducted on the problems in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The originality of this work is to identify the problems faced by those who have the same native language (Arabic). This study involves qualitative research and content analysis is used in the analysis of data obtained in the research. Collection and analysis of data was based on the following question asked to the learners at level B1 in Yunus Emre Institute in Jordan : “What kind of learning difficulties have you had while learning Turkish?” and an interview form which the participants completed on age, gender and profession on a voluntarily basis. At the end of this study, it was determined that students have problems in many aspects. . It is possible to rank the most significant problems such as the alphabet difference, problems encountered in pronunciation or speaking skills. In addition, it is observed that students face many problems stemming from grammar and as a result they have difficulty in understanding grammar rules. It is suggested that students develop their audio-based skills like listening and speaking and instructors focus on Arabic culture and student-centred activities.

Dale Carnegie says “Believe that you succeed. Believe it firmly and you will then do what is necessary to bring success about”. One of the top objectives that emphasized in the Common Europan Framework of Reference is constructivist approach and in order to achieve the objectives of the foreign language programs it is strongly emphasized that not only cognitive domain such as motivation of learners, self-efficacy and self-regulation (Hancı Yanar & Bümen, 2002). Constructivist approach based on that learners build step by step knowledge by experiencing with applicatipns from basic with self-efficacy beliefs (Demirel, 2000: 233). In the constructivist approach learning process is the process of making a decision required to reveal the student’s attitudes und beliefs, experience und skills (Şaşan, 2002). In the learning process the teacher’s mission is to prepare learning environments that will maket hem active, learners can configure information and to quidance to learners. In this process learner is active, learner’s motivation is high, using learner’s intellectual abilities learner gueries, searches, improves learning styles and strategies and aims to achieve success. In order to achieve a training program, which based on constructivist approach first of all the learner must have high self-efficacy.
The aim of this study is to discuss the philosophy of education and the principles of the project method of William H. Kilpatrick, who was one of the most notable representatives of progressive philosophy of education together with Dewey although he was not more familiar than Dewey as his successor in Turkey, as well as analyzing the reflections of these philosophy and principles in our day. Having developed towards the late 19th century, progressive philosophy of education has become influential primarily in the USA as well as in many European countries since the early 20th century. Although this philosophy of education had been dominant in some periods in the USA during the period until 1957,its influence had faded after 1957 due to the Cold War. On the other hand, progressive arguments had been reiterated especially during the years following the 1968 events and provided a theoretical basis for various pedagogical discourses. Especially the activities in which school curricula were redesigned based on the project method within the scope of Finland’s 2020 education vision have introduced the progressive philosophy of education and the ideas of William H. Kilpatrick into the pedagogy world once more. In the first section of this study where the historical methodology has been used, a short biography of William H. Kilpatrick has been provided. In the second section of the study, the Project method and curriculum perspective of William H. Kilpatrick have been analyzed. It is considered that the findings of this study will contribute to education philosophy and the field of curriculum theory.

To create a collective consciousness in the early Republic period, especially late Ottoman history was covered in textbooks in a restricted and marginalized way. It was the same in the narration of fronts during the during the World War I in which the founders of the Republic joined as well. While the Gallipoli Front and Caucasian Front, where Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) took part, had a wide coverage, other fronts were given no or very little coverage. In this way, a historiography centering upon Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) came out in the early Republic period and in its aftermath. In the present study, document review and descriptive analysis were carried out on the texts in the secondary education history textbooks that were ratified by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education and announced through Tebliğler Dergisi (Journal of Communiques) and were taught uninterruptedly and much longer than other textbooks from 1931 to 2016. Based on the data obtained, coverage of the Mesopotamian Campaign in general and Siege of Kut in particular in secondary education history textbooks was evaluated. Siege of Kut, which was the second victory of the Turkish army in the World War I following the Gallipoli victory, was seen to be covered with a couple of short sentences under the title of the Mesopotamian Campaign in some history textbooks. There were also some textbooks giving no coverage to Siege of Kut. Only short information was given about the Mesopotamian Campaign in a couple of sentences in some history textbooks. Accordingly, in the present study, a proposal was suggested on how to present Siege of Kut, which is one of the rare occasions in which the English were defeated and their army were held captive, in history textbooks as a victory and make next generations aware of its importance.

The aim of the study is to provide a vocabulary knowledge scale to be used in the literature for foreign language teaching of Turkish. The scale is important in terms of allowing students to evaluate their vocabulary. Scale was prepared as a semi-structured interview form and asked to three field specialists and accepted as an integrated scoring scale. In the research, the vocabulary knowledge scale which was developed by Wesche and Paribakht in 1996 was adopted. The adaptation of the scale to the Turkic language, validity and reliability studies were carried out after the necessary permissions were obtained by the researcher Vocabulary knowledge scale consists of two parts. The first part is the part of the student's self-evaluation and the meaning of the words is measured. The second part is the part made up of the scores given according to the answers given by the students. In the first part, the target words was evaluated as " I don’t remember having seen this word before.", " I have seen this word before, but I don’t know what it means.", " I have seen this word before I think its meaning is ……………. (its synonym or translation )"," I know this word. Its meaning is ………….. (its synonym or translation ) "" I can use this word in a sentence. (If you do this item please do the 4th one as well) ". In the second part, a score is made according to the answers of the students. The score is as follows: If the students do not know the meaning of the target word, 1 score is given. If the student sees the target word but does not know its meaning, 2 scores are given. If the student gives synonyms or translations, 3 scores are given. If the written sentence is semantically plausible, , 4 scores are given. If grammar and meaning are correctly written as semantical, 5 points will be given0 The valid and reliable of scale were carried out. To determine the reliability of the scale, "Cohen kappa coefficient" and "Pearson moment product correlation coefficient" were calculated in the study. Scope validity was provided by consultation with teachers and students. It has been determined that the scale is valid and reliable in the light of the results.

Turkey has changed constructivist educational approach instead of the already applied behaviorist educational approach since 2004. This applied educational approach includes skills consist of knowledge and skills including high-level cognitive processes. These skills are critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and reflecting what they learn. 2004-2005 social studies curriculum which is based upon constructivist educational approach covers students’ skills such as these high-level cognitive processes. The present study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the distribution of 2008-2010 high-stake test of Social Studies Course by grade and by year depending upon cognitive levels of RBT with an assumption that social studies curriculum is reflected in the exams. This study was carried out in an attempt to determining how 2004-2005 curriculum ensures the improvement of high-level skills. The study was conducted through qualitative case study method. Document analysis was used as a data collection tool. SBS questions used in the study were obtained from the Ministry of Education General Directorate of Educational Technology the Department of Examination Services. Instiead of this exam, there has been different exam, TEOG, just taken 8th inTurkey since November 2013. To this fact that, we chose the SBS question because it consist of different level such as 6, 7 and 8th grades and this exam can show us how different grades have changed between years. We hoped to analyze that this exam can be best examble to seening both different grade and how constructivist educational approach social studies curriculum applied on the questions. The data were subjected to two-stage expert opinions. The obtained data were analyzed by means of STATA 14 program descriptive statistical methods using STATA 14 program, examining questions using different research groups in the ratio test method, transferring them to the percentage and frequency tables. The majority distribution of SBS questions by grade depending on RBT’s low and high levels was found to be at low level. Also the majority distribution of SBS questions by year depending on RBT’s low and high dimensions was found to be at low level. As a result, it was observed that SBS social studies questions are focused on class lower-level cognitive processes in terms of year and grade. In this regard, it is recommended that questions which contribute to the students’ skills such as critical thinking, decision making, and reflecting what they learn be prepared as a priority.

Foreign language teaching is one of the most studied field. Teaching a language to foreigners means to make them gain reading, comprehension, listening, writing and speaking skills in the target language. Teaching a foreign language aims at transferring vocabulary to learners of the language and making them use that vocabulary in real situations to communicate. Teaching Turkish to foreigners attempts to perform this goal too. For this purpose, first it is necessary to teach words and formulaic expressions contained in Turkish lexicon. Those foreigners who learned these units will be successful in verbal and written expression, interpersonal communication, reading comprehension and understanding in Turkish. It might be useful for teachers of Turkish as a foreign language to have a framework of reference for planning the process of language teaching, determine its content and objectives of each stage. Therefore, it is possible to benefit from Common European Framework Of Reference For Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. The Framework of Reference categorizes learners into three levels as basic, intermediate and proficient. The framework determines the content of each level and their goals. Teachers may follow the levels of the Framework of Reference as a guideline in teaching Turkish words and formulaic expressions to foreigners. Teachers of foreign language at first decide about what, when, how much and how to teach in the process of language teaching and then they should start instruction. This paper will explain the process of teaching words and formulaic expressions in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and will bring some solutions about how much and how to teach these units.

Evaluation of the Place and Importance of "Beylik Aranağmeleri" Musical Notation Samples in Preparing New Resources for Teaching Turkish Music to Violinists

The aim of the current study is twofold. First, it aims to present the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the resources that have been used to teach violinists to play Turkish music in the Ottoman-Turkish societies. The second goal of the study is to elicit expert opinions related to the suitability of the "Beylik Aranağmeler" varieties (i.e., the musical notation samples created by the author of the study for upper intermediate performers) with regard to enhancing and improving the Turkish music violin teaching processes. To achieve these goals, the descriptive survey model was adopted in the study. In order to construct an objective picture of the past and present of Turkish violin education in our society, various government documents and scholarly publications were scrutinized and contrasted. Then, a questionnaire consisting of two main sections was sent to ten experts in the field. The first part of the questionnaire aimed to uncover their opinions and evaluations related to the available Turkish music violin teaching resources and their assessment related to their usage. The latter part, asked experts to assess the usefulness of "Beylik Aranağmeler Varieties", created by the researcher, in teaching violinists to perform Turkish music. The obtained quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS and descriptive statistics such as "Percentage" and "Frequency" were calculated. The results of the study reveal that the available Turkish music violin teaching resources are limited in number, they do not have the qualities needed to ensure unity in education and performance, and they do not appear to contribute to the technical development of violin students and/or performers. In contrast, the findings show that the experts in the field think that the "Beylik Aranağmeler Varieties", created by the researcher, is a teaching material that would contribute to the teaching of Turkish music style, would help with the establishment of unity in Turkish music violin education and performance, and would contribute to the development of the technical skills of violin students and performers.

Elementary Teacher Candidates' Self-Efficacy Perceptions On Teaching Multigrade Classes

Identifying the self-efficacy beliefs of teacher candidates who will most likely teach at a village school with multi-grade classes after graduating from the Department of Elementary Education is thought to contribute to the regulations regarding the improvement of teacher self-efficacy in pre-service and in-service trainings. In the scope of this study, it is aimed to identify elementary teacher candidates' self-efficacy perceptions on teaching multi-grade classes, and examine these perceptions in terms of certain variables. In line with this aim, general survey and correlational models were employed, and the data were gathered from 183 teacher candidates studying their fourth year in elementary education at two state universities located in the Mediterranean and Central Anatolia regions in the 2015-2016 academic year. The data gathering tools were a personal information form compiled by the researcher, and the Self-Efficacy Scale for Teaching Multi-Grade Classes (SSTMC) developed by Sağ (2011). In data analysis, descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) were used for the first research question, and Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal Wallis H tests were performed for the second research question. As a result of the analyses, it was found that the self-efficacy scores of the teacher candidates on teaching multi-grade classes significantly differed based on the states of preferring the profession wilfully and having participated in any observations-trips about multi-grade classes, whereas their scores did not differ significantly based on gender, the type of high school they graduated from, grade point average and home town. In this regard, it is thought that the course 'teaching multi-grade classes' included in pre-service teacher education should be re-organised in a way to provide opportunities for authentic learning, trips should be arranged to schools with multi-grade classes in the scope of this course, teacher candidates should also be given the opportunity to practice teaching in multi-grade classes, and not only cognitive, but also affective characteristics should be used in admitting students to education faculties.

The field of gifted education has a long history. It is also a very crucial issue for the development of societies. Many educators and researchers have been interested in analyzing the high ability students’ world. There are many studies conducted to understand gifted students’ needs. These students need special programs; and educators should take into consideration their learning styles and abilities when they establish programs and create materials. Conducting attitudes studies provide a good starting point for educators who wish to introduce suitable programs or lessons to students. The purpose of this quantitative study is to investigate the differences on gifted students’ attitudes toward history lessons taught in high schools in Turkey based on gender and grade level. The sample consisted of 133 gifted students in grades prep–12 (approximately 14–18 years of age) in TEV Inanç Turkeş High School. It is a boarding school in Turkey that accepts only gifted students for enrollment. Likert attitude scale was designed and used to measure the attitudes towards the study of history in high school students. Before applying this scale on the main target group, a pilot study was carried out in order to test the reliability and validation of the scale. For the statistical analysis of the data, SPSS Statistics 23 (IBM) and SPSS AMOS 23 (IBM) were used. The results of this study indicated that there are no significant differences between gifted female and male students’ attitudes towards history lessons. But the grade level of students had a significant effect on attitudes towards history lessons. This study showed that 10th grade students show more positive attitudes toward history lessons than the other grades.

In this study, it is aimed to identify the knowledge levels of people over the age of 70 about recent history. In accordance with this purpose, face to face interviews were made with 40 people over the age of 70 at the Tokat province center. Criterion sampling technique, which is a purposeful sampling method was used in this study. The criterion mentioned here is indicated as the participants at and over the age of 70. The interviews were made by using semi-structured interview forms developed by the researcher. The data were transferred to Microsoft Excel and Word and then analysed in IBM SPSS (Version 17) program by using “Frequency-Count” and "Column Responses %". As a result of the study, it has been concluded that majority of the participants have learned history from audio-visual means of communication such as TV and radio. No interaction has been encountered such as computer and smart telephone. It is considered that the reason for this is that the participants are unfamiliar with the new technology of the time due to their age. Furthermore, another significant conclusion is that printed media like newspapers are hardly followed. Other results obtained in the survey are that the printed media such as newspapers are hardly followed, the television is the most powerful means of media for communication, and it is not very effective in remembering, electricity coming in from 1950 to the end of the day, the changes like road construction etc. have helped the participants to improve their lives in general. In the light of the data obtained as a consequence of the study, some suggestions have been made for improving history teaching in order to teach it correctly. In the suggestions the significance of the opinions and statements of the witnesses of the time has been highlighted while conveying the history to the youth and new generations.
