When historical background of the competition for writing of İstiklâl Marşı considered, it is understood that a text was sought out that will provide morale support to the soldiers fighting at front. Significance of this matter is underlined by the fact that among the works participated to the competition those selected by the jury were sent to army commanderships to be read to soldiers with the purpose of observing soldiers’ reactions to them. In selection of Mehmed Âkif’s work, its ability to raise positive feelings in the listeners, especially soldiers, came to the forefront. Dedicated to the army, İstiklâl Marşı together with Çanakkkale Şehitlerine poem, marking the peaks of Mehmed Âkif’s life and poems, enabled him the title of “spiritual leader of Millî Mücadele”. In this study, an assessment of İstiklâl Marşı, which can be characterized as proclamation of support to Milli Mücadele, is being presented in terms of morale, meaning kuvve-i maneviye/spiritual force. As laying foundations to the inquiry, meanings of the word “morale” are scanned in various dictionaries, also for identifying the connotations of the word a study made on university students by Tekcan and Göz is used. In addition to these, frequency ranks of the words in İstiklâl Marşı are put into a table based on “Türk Dil Kurumu Yazım Kılavuzu”. In the next step, dictionary meanings and connotations of the word “morale” are associated with words in İstiklâl Marşı at the world level by taking into account also the frequency ranks and this method is also applied in the text level. In addition, upon the relationship between morale and moral values, a map of concepts is provided building on the word “din” which correspond to these values in İstiklâl Marşı. As a result of these investigations, it is concluded that İstiklâl Marşı is a text that both increases morale and emphasizes moral values. When the function of İstiklâl Marşı as an instrument of moral education is considered, the work of Mehmed Âkif can be accepted as a morale speech that was made to warm up soldiers in the War of Independence in which the poet assumes the role of a morale officer.

Aim: The aim of this study is to adapt Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale-Parent Form, which was developed by Fantuzzo, Mendez and Tighe (1998) to Turkish and conduct the reliability and validity analyses. Instrument-Method: Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale is a scale with 32 items and 3 subdimensions which is designed to help parents and teachers understand the peer play behaviors in early childhood settings. The data were collected from the parents of 442 children with an average of 60.38 (SS=9.98) who are of upper and middle SES. Firstly, Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale-Parent Form was adapted to Turkish language and culture. The validity of the scale was measured with Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the correlations between subscales and the difference between the Upper %27/Lower %27. The internal reliability of the scale was calculated by Cronbach's alpha method. Besides this, the predictive validity of the scale compared to the other scales was also probed. Findings: The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analyses showed that the scale has a three-factor structure as in the original version, which are Play Interaction (?2(26)= 90.719, CFI=0.901, RMSEA=0.075, SRMR=0.05), Play Disruption (?2(35)= 88.319, CFI=0.916, RMSEA=0.059, SRMR=0.043), and Play Disconnection (?2(34)= 81.715, CFI=0.892, RMSEA=0.056, SRMR=0.045). The internal reliability coeffiecients were found ?=.72, ?=.75 and ?=.68 for Play Interaction, Play Disruption and Play Disconnection, respectively. Moreover, the correlation found between this version and the social development and cognition based problem behavior scales which are rated by the teachers showed that the scale is valid and generalizable. Conclusion: The analyses showed that Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale-Parent Form is a valid, reliable and appropriate tool for Turkish children.

Every era comes with its unique requirements and expectations in every domain of life and education is no exception. However, there are some “timeless” educational moves which can be fashionable in every era such as brain-based learning where involvement of both hemispheres is encouraged in line with learners’ needs and interests. If educators are to deliver instruction in line with the needs of brain, they should take the necessary education before stepping into their real classes, which puts the emphasis on pre-service teacher education. Thus, this study aims to find out the perceptions and practices of faculty members in English Language Teaching (ELT) Programme at a state university in Turkey about brain-based learning. This study is based on mixed-methods approach including both quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (interview) data collection and analysis procedures. The participants were first applied the Brain-Based Learning Survey Questionnaire developed by Shelly R. Klinek (2009) in English and then they were given written interview forms to get deeper understanding about their teaching practices. SPSS 16 and Excel programme were utilized for numerical data analysis while content analysis was applied to interpret and categorize written comments of the participants. The findings provide crucial insights about how to implement brain-based learning methods for the benefits of student teachers in ELT programmes and thus create a learning culture among student teachers to implement such procedures in their future classes.

With the advent of new century, the countries’ perception of power and wealth has changed and thus science and technology has become the new power. Education is one of the main factors that constitute this power. While doing this, education is nourished by two sources: Curricula and education staff. Therefore, in order to attain the desired success, it is necessary to identify and solve problems that we meet during the implementation of curricula quickly. It is very important for the school administrators to have enough time to spare and correct perspective to reach this success. In this research, we aimed to put forward the school administrators’ duties and responsibilities during the implementation of curricula from their own viewpoints. By using the interview method, one of qualitative research methods, we tried to clarify the problems that the school administrators encounter during the implementation of curricula and how they solve them, according to the views of 17 school administrators. In order to make the research more concrete, we used “case study”, one of the qualitative research design and we chose the school administrators according to “maximum variation sampling method”, one of the purposeful sampling methods”. The semi-structured interview questions were asked to the participants, which enabled them to express themselves freely, thereby giving more detailed information. Also, we made “content analysis” by using Nvivo programme in order to make the relations among the findings obtained clearer and increase the intelligibility of the findings by collecting similar ones within certain themes and concepts. According to the research, the school administrators believe that most of the problems are caused by the implementers(teachers and administrators) during the implementation of curricula and they prefer school meetings so as to solve the problems. Moreover, they think that one of the most important problems is that both the school administrators and teachers do not have enough knowledge about the curricula. So, the school administrators and teachers should be given in-service courses related to the implementation process of curricula.

The purpose of this study is to get teachers’ view on the use of interactive white board.in the context of transformative learning theory. Research was formed by using the qualitative rese-arch methods. Phenomenologic method was used in this study. The participants of the study are 19 teachers in 2013-2014 academic year in Elazig City Center in Turkey. For data collection tool, Learning Activities Interview Form" developed by King(2009) and adapted to Turkish by the Feriver Gezer (2010) was used after having been adapted for interactive white board. Analysis related to the interview forms was carried out in a qualitative way. Analysis related to the interview forms was carried out in a qualitative way. Computer-assisted qualitative data analysis was conducted. Considering the results obtained from the research findings, it was concluded that all teachers were involved in the transformation display. When the size of teac-hers in the use of interactive whiteboards is evaluated, the majority of the teachers have trans-formation for other reasons while nearly half of the teachers have transformation related with in-service training. In order to determine the teachers’ transformative learning experience potential, the questioning reason of their past behaviour and repeated evaluation of past decisi-ons is to learn whether they have reflective learning. In this context, it has been concluded that most of the teachers have reflective learning. It is determined that among the people who facili-tate teachers’ usage of interactive whiteboards are students, teachers themselves, trainers and other teachers. Tasks that facilitate the transformation of teachers using interactive whitebo-ards are training activities, untraditional education structure and measurement and evaluation. Considering the findings of teacher feelings about the transformation of interactive whiteboard usage, it is concluded that at the beginning, teachers are thrilled with the transformation, then they have feelings about not having concerns, sustainability, happiness, confidence, intense using, curiosity, student’s laziness, fear, positive renewal, obligation and awareness. Based on the findings of the activities that can be done to facilitate the use of interactive whiteboards transformation of teachers, it is concluded that teachers mostly ask for courses which are designed according to branches.

The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of the activities, which are based on the authentic assessment approach applied in the Scientific Research Methods, on the cooperative decision-making willingness. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group model is used in this research. The study groups of the research consist of second year prospective teachers in the department of Classroom Teaching at Dicle University, Ziya Gokalp Education Faculty in the Spring Semestre of the Academic Year 2014–2015. Two classes are appointed neutrally, one (B class) as experiment group the second (A class) as control group. The experimental group consists of 42 (21 female and 21 male) prospective teachers and control group consists of 44 (27 female and 17 male) prospective teachers. As one prospective teachers did not participate in the post test in the control group, the evaluations were made on findings based on 43 students. ‘’Decision-Making Collaboration Scale’’ consisting of 13 items which were designed by Anderson, Martin and Infante (1998) and were adapted to Turkish by Kıcı (2012a) was used as the data collection tool. The percentages and frequencies of the features about the personal information of the prospective teachers taking part in the experimental and control groups were calculated. The arithmetic mean and the standart deviation of the pre-test and post-test points which the experimental and control groups took from the data collection tool were calculated. Independent-Samples T-Test was used to find out whether there was a meaningful differentation between the pre-test and post-test points. Paired-Samples T-Test was used to compare the pre-test and post-test points which both the experimental and control groups took from the data collection tools. At the end of study it is found that applications based on authentic assessment approach are more effective in increasing the willingness of prospective teachers for cooperative decision making when compared to traditional teaching and assessment.

The purpose of education is improving cognitive, affective, social and psychomotor skills of the children. Education should be planned with approaches, methods and techniques that will attract the attention of children and proper materials should be used accordingly for multifaceted development of children. Language is defined as an abstract concept by the researchers. Materializing an abstract concept with games and toys is an issue that needs to be discussed. Therefore, practices and recommendations of Turkish teachers regarding teaching Turkish are considered to be investigated. In this study, the aim is to determine and evaluate the opinions and recommendations of Turkish teachers regarding the use of games and toys in Turkish courses as educational materials. For this purpose, a total of 17 Turkish teachers composed of 10 women and 7 men working in the City of Erzurum were selected as samples of the study by using purposeful sampling method. In the study, teachers' opinions were identified by descriptive research approach. A semi-structured interview form was used to determine the opinions of teachers. The interview form consists of three sections as description, demographics and interview questions (8 questions). 20-minute interviews were conducted with teachers and these interviews were recorded and the data obtained were subjected to both descriptive and content analyses by expert researchers in the field of Turkish language. Categories were created by comparing the results and results are presented in tables. According to the results of the study, it is determined that the use of games and toys as educational materials in Turkish course is limited to the area of learning grammar only; and they cannot be used a lot especially in the areas such as reading, writing and visual reading among reading, listening, writing, speaking and visual reading areas. According to these results, it can be suggested that it is necessary to design and investigate educational games and toys for all learning areas in the education of Turkish language and training teachers about these materials with in-service training courses is also important.

Foreign language teaching is not to teach grammar and vocabulary of the target language and to gain basic language skills only. Foreign language teaching is teaching of the language’s culture at the same time. Because of language and community develop and shape together, learning, understanding and speaking a foreign language literally requires that one is able to think like the society that speaks the language natively. This is only possible with learning the culture that shaped the language. Teaching Turkish to foreigners should be put into practice in an environment that Turkish culture is being explained, reflected and lived because a person who learns a foreign language learns a new culture as well. Due to elements that constitute culture are enormous and multifarious, during teaching period, it is not possible to transmit all the elements that shaped Turkish culture, via course material and lessons only. One of the most important aims of foreign language teaching is to teach culture of the target language. Like all other educational environment, foreign language educational environments are supposed to be organized in accordance with its educational aims. Based on this, providing enriched environment with cultural components in educational environment is important. In this context, structuring educational environment with cultural elements can be used as a tool to confront learners with Turkish culture. In this study, relationship between language and culture is mentioned, cultural transmission and its importance in foreign language teaching are accentuated, the role of foreign language educational environments in cultural transmission is discussed and some suggestions about how arranging educational environment can be used as a tool in cultural transmission are given.

The critical thinking, which is considered as a factor making it easier to reach and comprehend the information, is one of the desired outcomes of the education. It can be said that disposition of being systematic, flexibility, patience, open-meaning, metacognition (how to think), reconstruction, motivation and discussion are some of the critical thinking characteristics and skills. This research aims to develop a critical thinking disposition (CTHD) scale. The survey method was used in this research. Draft scale was administered to 1081 prospective teachers and teachers in order to develop. Implementation was applied in Bartin University (226), Bulent Ecevit University (218), Kilis 7 Mart University (213) and Van province (424 teachers). According to the factor analyses results, KMO value of the CTHD scale is 0.972 and the Bartlett test value is 25990.380 (Df =1176, p=0.000). It is shown that variance of the scale is 49.161%. Factor loadings range from 0.33 to 0.71. The scale can be used as a multi-dimensional. Sub-themes of the scale are metacognition, flexibility, systematicity, tenacity-patience and open-mindedness. There are a total of 49 items in the scale. Evaluation of the scale was like this: "I totally agree (5), I mostly agree (4), I partially agree (3), I mostly disagree (2), I strongly disagree (1)". Test-retest was done for this scale. The correlation of test-retest was 0.761. This result has been accepted 0.01 and it was meaningful. In the scale, it was figured out that the correlation between parallel two half scores was 0.95. The coefficient of Cronbach Alpha of the CTHD scale was also calculated. From here, the final taken result was 0.963. It was provided to validity and reliability of the scale of CTHD and the confirmatory factor analysis with AMOS program was performed (Chi-square=2778.981, Df=1073, GFI=0.903, CFI=0.932, RMSEA=0.038). According to these results, the scale can be applied to teachers and teacher candidates.

The present study intends to identify teacher candidates’ metaphorical perception of instructors from different fields as to their educational philosophies. It is a qualitative study employing phenomenological design. A total of 328 teacher candidates who underwent pedagogical formation training in Balıkesir University Necatibey Faculty of Education participated in the study. The fundamental reason why the teacher candidates in the pedagogical formation training group were selected for the study group is that they had taken courses from all three instructor groups: field instructors, field education instructors, and educational science instructors. This is a qualitative study using phenomenological research design. A tool called “Metaphor Form” was used to collect data. The participants were asked to generate metaphors related to instructors representing different fields and explain their rationale. The invalid instruments were eliminated, and ultimately, data collected from 98 metaphor forms were analyzed by content analysis. Indeed, 98 metaphors were produced for each of the instructor groups that were the focus of the study. Analysis of data derived from these metaphors showed that field instructors predominantly prefer traditional approaches to education (perennialism and essentialism philosophies), and educational science instructors prefer modern approaches to education (progressivism and reconstructionism philosophies). Field education instructors, however, were found to employ both approaches, i.e. all four educational philosophies to a certain extent. As the educational philosophy adopted has an influential role in the planning and implementation of instruction, it should be ensured that progressivism and reconstructionism, which have an increasing popularity especially among field instructors and field education instructors, are embraced more widely among instructors.

This study aims to reveal how prospective teachers define the measurement and assessment practices, the measurement and assessment practices in the schools of ministry of education and the importance of the measurement and assessment education during higher education. With this study it is tried to reveal views of prospective teachers on measurement and assessment in schools through the metaphors they produce. This research is a descriptive research and a case study using qualitative data collection techniques. In this study the qualitative data were obtained by interviews. The study group is determined by homogenous sampling, one of purposeful sampling methods. The study group is formed with 4th grade students (N: 263) registered in various teacher training programs in the spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year. In this study semi-structured interview form is used as a data collection tool. Reporting the collected data in detail and describing how to get the results by researchers are among the important criteria of validity in qualitative research in crosscheck of validity/credibility and reliability/consistency. The stated opinions of participants with semi-structured and open-ended questions are analysed with descriptive analysis technique, each stated opinions are listed by forming necessary themes. In this study the participants largely load a positive sense (66%) to measurement practises. Students while expressing measurement and assessment processes that contributes the quality of education as a sacrifice requiring action, they also think that these practices should be a well-organized, a well-functioning system like a real system (human body, a machine). However, considering the produced metaphors and given meanings of participants, in a significant proportion (34%), measurement practices in applied way are portrayed in a negative feature as encouraging poor quality, generating intimidation-fear, made with deceptive methods, performing a rote and routine operations.

It was performed a survey to obtain preservice teachers’ demographic information (gender, department, monthly income of family) and a scale (Sarıgül, 2015) with 14 items to determine financial literacy level. As a result of descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA, independent samples t-test, it was determined if there was a difference between preservice teachers’ demographic information and financial literacy level or not. Significant relationships were found between financial literacy and preservice teachers’ some characteristics. While it is observed statistically significant differences between financial literacy and preservice teachers’ deparments and class ranks, it is concluded that there are no statistically significant differences between financial literacy and monthly income of family and gender.
