In student-teacher relationship perhaps the most important factor is the quality of the relationship between the instructor and the student. Therefore communication satisfaction is crucial on this relationship that was described as an affective response to the accomplishment of communication goals and expectations (Hecht, 1978). The aim of this research is to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Abbreviated Student Communication Satisfaction Scale (ASCS; Goodboy, Martin, & Bolkan, 2009). Participants were 312 undergreduate students from Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen ve Fırat Universities. The Student Communication Satisfaction Scale was translated into Turkish and the Turkish form was back-translated into English. In this study confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficients and the item-total correlations were examined. Results of confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that this scale yielded one factor, as original form and that the uni-dimensional model was well fit (x²= 28.11, df= 13, RMSEA= .061, IFI= .98, CFI= .98, RFI= .92, NFI= .96, NNFI= .95, GFI= .98, AGFI= .94, and SRMR= .039). The corrected item-total correlations ranged .26 to .63. Cronbach alpha internal consistency reliability coefficient of the scale was .75. Thus Abbreviated Student Communication Satisfaction Scale can be used as a valid and reliable instrument in education.

Curriculum studies have become an academic/scientific field in Turkey after 1945 by means of socio-cultural and politic developments/events. Cooperation between Turkey and USA, not only in politics but also in education and culture, has an important role in these developments/events. As a result of USA’s growing effect on cooperation of education, Turkish Phd graduates in USA caused scientific curriculum development paradigm in Turkey after they returned. By the time of the foundation of the Republic, the Turkish pedagogy stream which was shaped by French and German pedagogy tradition, influenced by Anglo-American education idea, so transition from pedagogy to education was experienced in many aspects strongly after 1945. Multiple test exams, evaluation based education efforts, and empiric researches in curriculum development are samples of this effect. The curriculum field has been conceptualized as curriculum development and scientific curriculum development paradigm emerged from Bobbitt, Tyler tradition has become the official point of view. In this context the initial book was written by Dr. Selahattin Ertürkand printed by the National Ministry of Education in 1966 by the name of “Planned Education and Evaluation/Planlı Eğitim ve Değerlendirme”. Latter books on curriculum and teaching followed the notion of this book, which played an important role to show us how the paradigm of the scientific curriculum development changed. also this book has deep effects on curriculum development in Turkey. In this view, the aim of this study is to examine the evolution of the scientific curriculum development paradigm in the context of the book written by Dr. Selahattin Ertürkand by the name of “Planned Education and Evaluation/Planlı Eğitim ve Değerlendirme”of and historical methodology is applied. Results of this study are hoped to contribute scientific curriculum development paradigm in Turkey

In foreign language teaching materials are presented by teacher in various environments in order to increase the efficiency and facilitate the teaching and learning process. Real objects and models, written and visual printed materials, audio components, televisions, videos, computers and Internet pages are used as material. Written materials include books, exercise books, working papers, the materials created by teachers and books prepared as reference book. Textbooks remind one of publications prepared by professional instructors. However, there are positive and negative arguments for textbooks: Favourable argument indicates that textbook shapes curriculum and therefore helps students follow a planned and developed syllabus in a systematic way. According to unfavourable argument, since the textbook was prepared not on real situations but on targeted elements of teaching, it’s language can be unauthentic. In this case it’s argued that instead of describing real life, it reflects the use of an idealized language. Concerning the use of textbook, in order to reconcile these two arguments, the solution suggestion is material adaptation. The adaptation process is accomplished by changing the context, adding or removing the content, rearranging the content and material change. In this context the study examined the textbooks, which are one of the written materials used for foreign language teaching. The textbooks namely Nuovo Progetto Italiano 1-A and 1-B, which were published by Edilingua Publishing House, were evaluated according to the criteria of the A1 and A2 levels of European Language Portfolio, based on Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. An evaluation criteria has been adapted based on European Language Portfolio, A1 and A2 level control lists of Language Biography: listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing. Thus an evaluation and detailed examinations of the books were made. In line with obtained data, the quantitative and qualitative competence aspects of the textbooks were discussed according to A1 and A2 levels.

The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of the creative drama method on the emotional needs of university students. The study group of the study consisted of 27 first class students at a university. There were 22 (77.8%) female and 5 (22%) male students. A total of 30 hours of the creative drama educational program was used for the study group students in 10 sessions, each lasting 180 minutes. We used the "The Need For Affect Scale" to evaluate the emotional need levels of the students in the study's experimental group. We also administered the "Personal Information Form" to record the personal characteristics of the students. The mean emotional need score of the students was 2.14±12.38 before training and 14.88±12.04 afterwards. The Need For Affect Scale sub dimensions revealed a score of 14.3 ±13.56 from the pretest and 21.40±8.55 from the posttest of the approach subscale and -12.18±10.65 from the pretest and -7.62±12.62 from the posttest of the Avoidance subscale. There was a statistically significant difference between the total emotional need pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group (Z= -3.570, p<0.05). There was also a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of both the approach subscale (Z= -2.810, p<0.05) and the avoidance subscale (Z= -2.238, p<0.025). We found no statistically significant difference between the total emotional needs of the male and female students before training (Z= -.496, p>0. 05). Similarly there was a difference between the subscale scores Z=-.934, p>0. 05, avoidance Z =-1.841, p>0. 05). There was also no statistically significant difference between the total emotional needs and the subscale scores after the training Z=-.701, p>0. 05, avoidance Z=-.554, p>0. 05). The results of this study indicate that university students have a more positive approach to their emotions following application of the creative drama method. We believe that these results were the due to the students enacting different roles in the creative drama activities and starting and continuing communication, understanding the other persons and developing empathy, developing positive relationships, getting to know their emotions, expressing and controlling their emotions and therefore becoming engaged in experiences related to their emotions. We believe that preparing and popularizing educational programs containing creative drama so that these important skills can be developed in university students is very important in preparing these i

The aim of this research is to show the metaphoric perceptions of Turkish teacher candidates on the four basic language skills of the education and teaching of Turkish, which involve listening, speaking, reading and writing. The research has been conducted in line with the phenomenology pattern. The study group of the research consists of 4th grade Teacher Students who were studying in the Cumhuriyet University, Faculty of Education at the Department of Turkish Education in the spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic years. 30 teacher candidates participated in the research and participation was on a volunteer basis. A questionnaire which was prepared by the researcher was used to collect the research data. In the first part of the questionnaire, the personal information of the Turkish Teacher candidates was included; in the second part questionnaire, sentences such as “Speaking is like…..; because….”, Listening is like…..; because….”, “Writing is like…..; because….” and “Reading is like…..; because….” were used to learn the opinions of the candidates about the four basic language skills of Turkish education and teaching. Thus, with which metaphors Turkish Teacher Candidates established their perceptions about the four basic language skills in Turkish education and teaching, the reason of the emerging metaphors and the common characteristics of these metaphors were tried to be determined. The content analysis method consistent with the qualitative research pattern was used in the evaluation of the obtained data. When research results are examined; 30 Turkish teacher candidates developed 26 different metaphors for listening skills, 24 different metaphors for speaking skills, 25 different metaphors for reading skills and 26 different metaphors for writing skills. It is observed that metaphors which are the efficient instruments on education can be used efficiently in the implementation of Turkish teaching and they can reveal the mental images about listening, speaking, reading and writing which are the four basic language skills of this field.

This study aims to examine the effects of computer games on aggression level of primary and secondary school students. Relational scanning model was used and study sample comprised 484 students with different socio-economic level from 4th and 5th grade of nine primary and secondary schools in Edirne. 231 of the students are girls (52,3 %) while 253 are boys (47,7 %). 50,2 % are 4th grades and 49,85 % are 5th grades. The study involved “General Information Form” designed by researchers in order to obtain general information about children, families and students’ playing status and “Aggression Scale” designed by Buss and Perry (2000) in order to detect aggression level of students and adapted to Turkish by Can (2002). Data obtained from General Information Form and Aggression Scale were analyzed on SPSS 16.0 statistic program and tested on 0.05 significance level. Besides, sub-dimension scores were formed by taking average of total and sub-dimension scores instead of taking them as a whole. Data from General Information Form were assessed according to their frequency and distribution percentage. Independent group t-test was used while comparing students’ “Aggression Scale” scores with variables in “General Information Form”. One of the important findings of the study is that 301 students (62,20 %) reported that they did not play computer games with violent content and 183 students (37,80 %) reported that they did. However, when students were given the names of computer games with/without violent content and asked to mark the ones that they played, it was found that 173 students (35,75 %) did not play computer games with violent content and 311 students (64,25 %) students played. Thus, it was detected that children did not realize that their games involved violent content. Here, the family has the important role. 90,1 % of the students in this study stated that their parents set rules on their plays while 9,9 % reported that their parents set no rules on computer games. However, the reason of this remarkable conflict may be the fact that these rules are rather related to duration and parents do not bring limitation on the type and content of the games.According to independent t-test results, aggression level of students was found to be high in total and sub-dimensions according to playing status reported by students. Besides, it was found that aggression level of students was high in sum and sub-dimensions according to whether they played computer games with and without content while there was not a significant difference only in verbal aggression dimension.

In this research, it was aimed to develop a measurement tool having the reliability of measurements to determine the attitudes of teacher candidates on value education. Primarily, the relevant literature was scanned in order to form the scale on the subject matter in the research, the expert opinion was asked in order to determine the scope and the appearance validity of scale. In line with opinions, the test form consisting of 25 items was applied to 278 students at last class composed of 100 female and 178 male students studying during the fall semester 2012-2013 in Faculty of Industrial Arts Education in Gazi University. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used for the structure validity of data obtained from the pilot application results. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, it was observed that the scale has a structure with two factors. I was decided that these two structures consisting of 16 items, 9 positive and 7 negative, reflect the sizes of "care about the value of education" and "finding valuable the value education". The structure with two factors explains the 555.74 of total variance of scale. As a result of first degree confirmatory factor analysis with data set, the structure with two factors was confirmed, it was observed that the conformity index has good and acceptable conformity values (X2/sd: 2.05; RMSEA: .06; NFI: .91; CFI: .95; GFI:.91; RFI: .90; AGFI: .89; SRMR: .04). Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient related to the whole of scale completing reliability studies was defined as α = 0.93. as a consequence, it was decided that the Scale For Attitudes On Teaching National Values has psychometric properties required for an instrument with measurement reliability.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of narrative texts (printed or digital and interactive) on comprehension and opinions of the students about digital and intaractive books. In the research, two different study groups were formed. The first study group consists of 53 fourth-grade students in Nedim Turan Primary School in Afyonkarahisar, Evciler. The second study group consists of 20 students chosen by randomly sampling among the first group. Firstly, the texts used were chosen. All of the 6 similar texts were narrative texts. The texts were determined by Turkish teachers, Class teachers and a field expert. For printed texts 9 narrative texts from Turkish book that was decided to be used in 2014-2015 education year by Ministry of National Education. 3 similar texts out of 9 were chosen. Digital and interactive texts were searched in the publishing houses on the market. 3 similar texts having the same multimedia features were decided. 6 open-ended comprehension questions-based on simple and deep understanding about the storybooks were formed with Turkish teachers, class teachers and a field expert. The students were asked to read 3 digital and interactive texts by tablet PC and 3 texts on printed material two times. After reading books, the students were given comprehension questions about the books and they were asked to answer these questions in written form. Finally, 20 students were interviewed. We tried to get their opinions about the digital and interactive books by 6 questions. There is no statistically meaningful difference between the reading comprehension scores of the students on the digital-interactive texts and the printed texts in paired samples t-test (, p>.05). the reading comprehension scores of the students on the digital-interactive texts were 1,2 points higher than the scores of the printed texts. However, we can not name it as a significant difference statistically. The reason whythe reading comprehension scores of the students on the digital-interactive texts were higher than the scores of the printed texts can stem from students’ first interaction with tablets and reading a multimedia storybook on the tablets. It is thought that the reason why there is no significant difference between reading in print and digital environment is carrying out this research with the study group for the first time and students’ higher motivation. According to the research the students developed a positive attitude towards tablet pc. So the students were enthusiastic about the digital and interactive books. It is assumed that as students get accustomed to tablets, the difference will be lower and by the time tablets will be ordinary like printed books.

Language teaching has become an important issue which makes many scientists, social scientists and recently the linguistic scientists think from past to present and leads them to research in this field and methods are needed in teaching. Various methods have been put forth for teaching a foreign language in science world. Every single method has revealed the shortcomings of predecessors existing method and formed alternative methods which it thinks that it would better contribute to teaching. Language teaching should be done as a whole by using certain methods. Teaching Turkish as a foreign language has a great importance in terms of recognition of Turkish and Turkish culture. For this reason, methods to be used in lessons should be determined correctly. Method is a path followed according to a plan in order to achieve a certain result in science. First of all, it is needed to know why students need to learn a foreign language in order to achieve the aim of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. As the need for learning Turkish increases, it should be cared the convenience of the method used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and right selection of effective methods to take the easiest way to the aim. The need of learning would direct what method Turkish would be taught. After determining the need and acquisition of the lesson, method to be used should be determined correctly. For example, it may be given primacy to direct method in vocabulary teaching, to audio- lingual method in acquisition of the speaking and listening skill, to grammar translation method in teaching grammar. Alternative methods can also be used in cases where environmental conditions are suitable, materials and time are abundant. Selection of a right method means successful language teaching. This selection will not vulgarized the language teaching. It provides fast and effective learning by increasing motivation. In this study, some certain methods determined in the seminars in ‘Foreign Language Teaching Programs’ that European Union and Ministry of National Education jointly organized in 1982 have been introduced with its general characteristics. Besides this, some alternative methods have been introduced except for these methods often used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and the methods in question have been put emphasis on their strengths and weaknesses, discussions on the subject have been made and suggestions developed have been presented.

Education is a subject that has no alternative for communities that aim to develop because communities can only reach their goals through a strong education system and sense of education. It can be said that schools, which are the pioneering institutions for the development of the communities, make it possible to reach these goals. In this sense, a community’s place in science, technology, enlightenment has taken shape according to its schools’ and education system’s qualities. It can be thought that the most important factor that affect and manage the school is school principal and the qualities that school principals have effect the success of the schools. In this work, emotional intelligence and managerial competencies, which can be considered as important factors, are studied. The aim of current study is to examine the relationship between school principals’ emotional intelligence and managerial competence levels in all dimensions. This study was carried out in relational survey model as the case of Nevşehir. The population of this study consists of 485 school principals in charge in Nevşehir. 261 school principals were chosen according to convenience sampling method. The principals’ self-perception of their emotional intelligence and managerial competence levels were tested by using emotional intelligence and managerial competence scales. Required data for the study is gathered electronically with the help of provincial directorate of national education. Multiple Linear Regression test have been used in the analysis of the data. The findings show that principals’ emotional intelligence levels in all dimensions can predict their managerial competence levels in all dimensions. In other words, as the school principals’ level of emotional intelligence increase, their managerial competency levels increase, too. Accordingly, it can be suggest that emotional intelligence behaviours can be criterion in the organization of schools, in the appointment of school principals and in providing an effective teaching-learning environment.

Children’s Negative Experiences Faced On The Internet Whilst Researching Their Homework And Their Responses Against These Experiences

Introduction Whilst the internet is providing new experiences for children and adults as a part of daily life, when used unconsciously it can cause some problems. When it comes to children these problems tend to get more attention. There are different ways for protecting children from internet originated problems. The first one is that parents should set rules about what they need to do on the internet. The second one is using internet filters. The third one is improving children’s internet literacy skills. Internet literacy has three dimensions such as access, understanding and creation. Having exposure to the negativity of the internet does not only result from a deliberate access to content that can be harmful. Because, even if users don’t have malicious intention, the websites implement various strategies to redirect them to malicious sites. Varnhagen (2011) states these strategies as: 1) Associating inappropriate content with frequently used keywords. 2) Sending emails with inappropriate content. 3) Making offers seen harmless (such as participating in a quiz, learning about extreme sports), but redirecting users to malicious pages. 4) Using the same names of trusted sites but changing their extensions (such as using www.whitehouse.com instead of www.whitehouse.gov). These strategies display that the internet can be a risky environment for children who want to benefit from its positive sides. Although various researches revealed that most of the children use the internet for the aim of doing homework (Cranmer, 2006; La Ferle, Edwards & Lee, 2000; Yılmaz & Ersoy, 2012; Yolcu, 2007), examining what kind of negativities the children experience due to these strategies and what they do when they face these negativities can be a significant research topic. This study aims to reveal the negativities that the 4th and 5th grade students face whilst they are researching their homework on the internet and what they do in this case. For this general purpose, answers were sought for the questions below: 1. Do the children’s opinions about negative experiences whilst researching their homework and what they do in the face of these experiences differ according to variables of; • gender • grade and, • having access to the internet at home? 2. How do the children perceive the negative experiences they face on the internet? Method The study is a mixed method research conducted as a fully mixed concurrent equal status design (Leech & Onwuegbuzie, 2009). The quantitative dimension of the study was carried out as a survey method (Karasar, 1999). The qualitative dimension’s approach of the study is phenomenology (Baker, Wuest & Stern, 1992; Richards & Morse, 2007). In the phenomenology dimension, the experienced phenomenon is the negative experiences of the children and their responses whilst they are researching their homework. The quantitative study group of the research constitutes 417 children. 50,1% of the study group is boys, 49,9% of the group is girls, 46,5% of the group is fourth grade, 53,5% of the group is fifth grade and 62, 8% of them have internet access at home. 15 students were selected according to criterion sampling for the interviews (Glesne, 2014; Patton, 2002). For the interviews, 2 basic criteria, which were having negative experiences and sharing these with their class teacher or guidance teacher, were determined. The research data were collected by questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. In total, there are 21 items including 3 personal information questions, 7 items of negative experiences come across on the internet and 11 items of responses against the negative experiences in the questionnaire. The questionnaire data were analyzed via percentage, frequency and chi square statistical techniques. Thematic analysis was applied to the interview data. After the quantitative and qualitative data were presented separately, they were discussed under the heading of discussion. Findings Quantitative findings:

Games are at the heart of the activities loved and carried out by children. The children accept them as serious tasks, learn and discover the world by them. They form the basis of the children’s physical, mental, emotional and social development. This situation is emphasized by the recent research and their benefits on the development of the children are stated. With this motivation, learning and entertainment activities are unified in recent years and they are used in order to learn effectively and permanently. It is aimed to have students participated in education activities effectively and had fun in the approach of game-based learning. In this approach, the games are not the purpose but the tool. The game in education is emphasized instead of the education in the game. The games aiming to provide students various knowledge and skills are identified as educational games. It is purposed to develop the students’ language, mental, social and physical skills by them. They are chosen, applied and managed by the teachers based on the aims of the lessons, and the age and the level of the students. Active participation of all of the students in the games is expected. It is observed that this approach is effective on each level of the students.

In this study, the purpose is to look for the relationship between the public personnel selection exam (KPSS) concerns of teacher candidates and social support, self-esteem and self-efficacy perception variables. The study population is composed of a total of 301 pedagogical formation program students (235 women, 66 men) attending Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education courses. The demographic information of the participants such as age, gender, socio-economic status (SES), monthly income and education level have been obtained by a personal information form. How many times they participated in KPSS exam and if they achieved and had the chance to be appointed as a teacher has also been asked. In order to determine KPSS concerns of the participants KPSS anxiety scale developed by Karaçanta (2009) has been used whereas Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem and General Self-Efficacy Scale have been used in order to determine their perceived social support. Variables have been compared by using correlation and regression analysis techniques. When the anxiety variable towards KPSS has been examined it has been seen that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between this variable and socio-economic level and appointment possibility variables. In addition, as the social support the participants receive from their parents and friends, self-esteem and self-efficacy levels increase, their anxiety levels towards KPSS decreases. Considering the findings regarding regression analysis; it has been found out that as socio-economic level increases the anxiety levels towards KPSS decreases and that the anxiety levels of men are lower than those of women participants. Finally it has been seen that peer support, self-esteem and self-efficacy variables regress the anxiety towards KPSS in a positively.

In any teaching and learning environment not only the quality of information but also the usage of language, which is the most crucial element of communication through which information and thought are shared, is quite important. Teachers’ correct and effective use of language contributes to learning, motivation and being comprehensible. According to thought and emotion within itself the language sometimes encourages and motivates students, and sometimes it may also function as an intermediary device of an authoritative environment. The content of the language used by teachers and its effects on students are observed within the current study. The study basis on qualitative state research model. In order to collect data, interview and observation techniques were used. The obtained datum were defined through content analysis method. Upon having been obtained through content analysis method, datum were classified according to codes and themes then they were interpreted in discussion section. According to the results of the study it stood out that teachers used encouraging words so as to motivate students and addressed them with words that have meanings related to closeness and kinship. Since a teacher-centred approach was in use, teachers sometimes used expressions in a warning manner. Teachers did not leave sufficient space for expressions that will motivate students and provoke interest. That means rather than seeing teaching as a profession, teachers tend to perceive it as social role that has been provided by public.

The main motive behind this study is the lack of measures in Turkey assessing the childhood traits of alexithymia which is known as difficulty of expressing emotions. The aim of the study is to adapt the Rieffe, Oosterveld and Terwogt’s (2006) “Alexithymia Questionnaire for Children” into Turkish language and culture and to perform the scale’s reliability and validity analyses. The sample of the study was determined by convenience sampling technique and was composed of a total of 500 students, 242 female and 258 male sixth and seventh graders in a Central Anatolian city. As a result of translation and back-translation process and in the light of experts’ opinions, it was determined that the translated items showed high similarity with the original ones and the linguistic validity was high. As part of the validity study, a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted and the result of Chi-Square test was found to be statistically significant (p=.88). Also, the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the three factors were consonant with the original structure and acceptable levels of fit indexes were determined ( RMSEA= .046, x² /sd=2,44). The analyses demonstrated that all of the item loadings were above .40. The analysis of the predictive validity showed a positive and significant correlation between Alexithymia Questionnaire for Children, the Brief Symptom Inventory and Mood Scales. The Cronbach Alpha internal-consistency coefficient was found to be .57 and the correlations among the items were above .40. In conclusion, the Turkish version of Alexithymia Questionnaire for Children can be said to be valid and reliable scale in measuring the Alexithymic traits of children in Turkey.

Wragg’s (1997) 3-D Cubic curriculum offers three dimensions which are subjects, cross-curricular issues and teaching-learning styles accordingly. In this study subjects are designated to be cognitive developmental keys which are directly related with mathematics and or mathematical reasoning skills. Cross-curricular issues are identified as culture, language, critical thinking and social skills. Teaching-learning styles are related with teaching with games. As the Cyprus culture shows tendency to disappear according to the immigration and time (Duranay ve Reis, 2012; Beyatlı, Papadopoulou ve Kaymak, 2015), it is important to help preschoolers learn and sustain their culture. In this study two books of Oğuz Yorgancıoğlu, a remarkable writer in North Cyprus with more than twenty books on Cyprus culture, has used. In this study two of the games are selected based on two preschool teachers and an academician’s views. Besides, a specialist also agreed that using these games with mentally handicapped children is also convenient. These two games are analyzed according to the key elements in the cubic curriculum and associated with cognitive developmental keys identified in preschool curriculum. Cubic curriculum can not only contribute about appending new cognitive developmental indicators and but also incorporate student, teacher, principal, competent authorities, national and international communities together (Kliminskas ve Rupainiene, 2004). Cyprus traditional games can also help preschoolers to gain social skills which are specified in the Preschool Curriculum. These cultural games may strengthen bonds among peers since games all requires children to involve actively. Besides, cultural games may have the potential to create more social and active roles for both preschoolers and teachers.

The aim of this study is to examine compatibility of KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam) Turkish Teaching Field Knowledge Test in terms of Turkish teaching program and Turkish teaching specific field qualifications, and in terms of measuring field knowledge. The research employs survey model. For data collection and analysis, document analysis and interview techniques from qualitative research methods are employed.Study group of the research consists of Turkish teaching department graduates who entered KPSS Turkish Teaching Field Knowledge Test in 2013.As for data collection, semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers is used. Data obtained as a result of research results are evaluated by means of content analysis. Considering the findings obtained as a result of the research, we may say that KPSS Field Knowledge Test does not cover all subjects in Turkish teaching program and 17 questions related to specific field qualifications are consistent. As a result of interviews with teachers, it is deemed necessary to give weight to questions towards field training in terms of subject distribution. In addition, it is noted that considered that the number of questions oriented towards measuring field knowledge is insufficient, and that it will be useful to increase number of questions in order to achieve higher scope validity, and finally it will be appropriate to prepare questions from all classes by considering undergraduate course contents and specific field qualifications.

The research aimed to evaluate primary school 2nd grade English language teaching curriculum. The study was designed as a descriptive survey study by utilizing illuminative curriculum evaluation model. The research data were collected via a scale from 768 teachers teaching 2nd grade classes in 14 cities of seven regions in Turkey selected through stratified sampling. In the first part of the scale, the demographic information related to teachers were analyzed through descriptive statistics and in the second part of the scale teachers’ views regarding the scale items were analyzed via inferential statistics. The open-ended questions in the third part of the scale were analyzed via descriptive analysis. The research findings indicated that teachers found the realization of aim and content dimension and learning-teaching process and contextual dimension sufficient; however, teachers believed the realization of measurement and assessment dimension was insufficient. Furthermore, statistically significant differences were found between regions according to teachers’ opinions related to the curriculum. Teachers working in South East and Eastern Anatolia regions had significantly negative views than the teachers working in other regions of Turkey regarding all the dimensions of the scale. Besides, it was found out that most of the teachers did not receive any in-service training about the new curriculum and many teachers from different fields taught primary school second grade English classes. Also, teachers who were graduates of English language teaching and other English departments had significantly positive views than teachers who graduated from another higher education program with regard to all dimensions of the scale.

The System Approach started using in Turkish Education System 1973 with numbered statute 1739. School systems specific and general aims, principles and grades defined with this statute. Since 1973 the Turkish National Education Basic Law changed a couple of time. These changes are mainly; structuring school grades as 4+4+4, compulsory school duration changed to 12 years, added new chosen courses, number of courses increased. Additionally high school starting system and school principle promotion method. This changes are discussing by the member of school society. This study aimed to present School Principles views pertaining to the recent differences regarding the policies of education and schools systems. For this aim a qualitative research designed by the author. The research group was comprised of 14 school principle employed at elementary and middle schools in Kahramanmaraş Province, during the 2014-2015 education and instruction term. The research group were selected via "convenience sampling" method. Convenience Sampling method is easy reachable sampling method for researcher. In the study used a semi-structured interview form (School Principles Views about Recent Politics Changes of Education and School System in Turkey), developed by the researcher. The interview form prepared under expert guidance, was used as data collection tool and it included questions that aimed to discover School Principles views pertaining to the recent differences regarding the policies of education and schools systems. Data collected by the researcher in the chosen schools via interviewing face to face with school principles. After every interviews validity and reliability test done by researcher. In the conceptual frame created to internal validity with literature. In order to ensure the external validity all stages of the research explained in detail. School principals have the responsibility to apply the educational politics. Their opinions and the analyses are so important, because of the responsibility,. That is why we choose content analysis method for analyze to data. Because Content analysis method gives more detailed ideas about research topic. According to study results, it can be said that it would be correct to extend the duration of compulsory education in a graduated manner but that it would be better to structure it in a 5+3+4 system rather than a 4+4+4 system because of the current infrastructure. Making preschool optional may create problems pertaining to students’ school readiness for elementary school. It can be said that the changes made as a result of the changing school system have caused many problems because of lacking physical infrastructure. The increase of elective courses is a positive change; however the lack of specialized teachers in the fields of the electives keeps the courses from reaching their goals. Similarly, it can be stated that the increase in courses that are provided generates exhaustion in students at the lower classes at schools with double shift schooling because the school day ends at a later hour. It can be stated that constant changes made in student placement system for high schools demotivate students and cause uncertainty. It can be argued that the practice of assigning female assistant principals enriches administrations, however the anxiety that the abolishment of the written exam for assigning School Principles creates subjectivity in the School Principle assignments and that the return of unassigned School Principles teaching posts is considered as a negative change since it is thought that this will lower educational quality. According to school principals views the recent changes of education politics of Turkey, would create some positive effect on educational system of Turkey. But they have still keeping their negative opinions on the majority of changes. But if we think about the findings of the study, it can be said that the school principles are not open minded about th

School is one of the most important space and factors after the home in development of children. Educational buildings have an important role in a child’s life, because child spends his/her most time in school with his friends and teachers, even much more then in home with his family. In addition, the educational activities carried out in the education buildings are very effective on children development who are future of society. Education is multi-dimensional phenomenon so that it progresses under the effect of so many factors. Physical conditions of education buildings are one of the most important factors which are effective on the education. On the other hand, learning is a complex activity that is related with students' motivation and physical condition. As well as the education resources, teacher’s skills and training curriculum, physical conditions of education buildings and their design are quite effective components on student’s learning performance. However, in our country like all over the world, students have no voice in the designing of this type of buildings which is quite effective on students’ performance. When looking at the public schools which are a large part of the existing schools in our country, it is seen that they have standard type projects which don’t consider local culture and context. Though, the students’ opinion should be considered and applied during designing period of the buildings where students spend their most of time. Hence, student’s self-confidence, responsibility about their school and feelings of belonging will increase. In the study, these findings are determined; physical space quality of school buildings have positive or negative effects on student’s academic achievement and learning performance. Students, whose schools have poor and inadequate physical conditions, generally talk about negative features on the subject of feature/features that distinguish their school than others, as for students, whose schools have healthy physical conditions, prioritize their schools positive properties. In the healthy condition schools, students’ expectation about renovation of their school is raised higher than students’ expectation in the poor and inadequate physical condition schools. There is a significant relation between school building age and students’ satisfaction level of school physical features, spatial quality (physical environment factors) and safety, effect of school on student, student achievement and school attendance. Students’ satisfaction about aesthetical features like welcoming of school building exterior, environmental compliance of school building, color of building facade and visualization of the inner and outer part effect student achievement in a positive way. Higher quality level of school location, student size, classroom dimensions, spatial organization and spatial density, equipment, acoustic, ventilation, temperature-heat, light, color, hygiene, safety, symbolic-aesthetic values and providing user participation in the school design have positive effects on student achievement, motivation, social relation, healthy, responsibility feeling of students to their parents and society and behaviors. If learning environments are accommodated by taking into account students’ physiological, psychological-social specialty and wishes, student academic achievement will be effected positively. In this context, the purpose of this study is to learn children’s thoughts about the current physical condition of their school and determine changes that students want to happen about their school. To obtain data for the study observation, determination and survey techniques were used. At the end of the study, in the light of the acquired knowledge from literature, analysis and user participated design methods, some design criteria is generated for renewals of existing schools or designing of new schools.

The primary objective of this research was to adapt the Attitude toward Physics Scale developed for the university level by Sezgin Selçuk (2004) to a high school level physics (Attitude toward Physics Scale), to determine high school students' preferred attitudes to learning physics. The secondary objective was to use the adapted scale to find out whether students' attitudes to learning display any significant difference according to the variables of location (city). This study is a descriptive research that used the survey model. The adapted scale was applied to a total of 356 high school students in the province of İzmir (n=178) and Gaziantep (n=178), Turkey for the purpose of testing the scale's validity and reliability. The results show that the Attitude toward Physics Scale is a valid and reliable instrument. The reliability coefficient for the whole of the scale was found to be 0.96. The data related to the secondary objective of the research were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation, analysis of varians (one-way ANOVA). It was determined from the results of the analysis that without regional differences students had neutral attitude toward physics and in the region of Izmir attitudes was determined to be more positive than in the region of Gaziantep. In the light of this study, it can be suggested that students’ attitudes to physics should be determined and teaching process should be revised accordingly.

Nowadays, learning and teaching foreign langues become more essential because of the globalization. One of the most essential new methods of learning a foreign language is the use of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The CEFR is the linguistic work conducted by experts from the Member States of the Council of Europe. Published in 2001, it creates a completely new approach aimed to create the new objectives and methods of language teaching. In addition, it provides a common basis for the design of programs, diplomas and certificates. In the CEFR, the 6 common skill levels are: A1 (Breakthrough), A2 (Waystage), B1 (Threshold), B2 (Vantage), C1 (Effective Operational Proficiency), C2 (Mastery). The problematic sentence of this work could be expressed as follows: “how could study the texts in the A2 level?” In A2 level, the students can analyze the simple texts with maximum 200 words. The subject of these texts can resume in daily topics. This research is composed in literature review. In this method, the researcher analyze the thesis, the articles, the books about the subject of this study and he/she summarize the findings all of these publications. The solutions and the suggestions can resume in the full text.

Reflecting the Armenian question and relocation issues in Turkey has been in two phases in general. In the first phase, in return for the efforts of ASALA terrorist organization intensifying in the 1970’s to bring up the Armenian question to the agenda of the world by assassinating the Turkish diplomats, it has been aimed to raise awareness in the students by including the issues related to the Armenian question into Turkish Republic Revolution History curriculum in 1981 and in 1983 high school 3rd class History lesson curriculum Following the increasing efforts of especially the Armenian diaspora to present this era in which there is relatively limited information about the subject and 1915 events to the world opinion as Armenian genocide and to encourage many countries to adopt a resolution supporting this claim, the Ministry of National Education took a decision to integrate the issues related to Armenian, Greek-Pontus and Syriacs into Secondary Education and Turkish Republic Revolution and Kemalism lesson curriculum. After this decision, throughout the history, that the Turish-Armenian relations and the Armenian question appeared and the phases it went through have been reflected in details in the history textbooks. In history textbook from the 1980’s to today, it is seen that the Armenian question, relocation and other information related to the Armenians has increased in parallel with the efforts to popularize the Armenian claims, the language used and style have become tougher.

In order for a phenomenon, an activity or a field of work to be united under a roof and carried out steadily with a systematic, planned and consistent functioning, institutionalization is vital. Both for creating a brand to address and for the activities carried out within this brand or roof to be sustained in a clear line of goals and visions, an institutional identity is essential. It would not be wrong to say that an institutional structure has not been formed in the field of translation in Turkey since the 1940’s when considerably important attempts for a systematic and institutional translation policy were made . However, as Hilmi Ziya Ülken stated “ the thing that gives the creative power in the revival ages” (Ülken, 2009:5), makes the transmission and exchange of information and ideas in many fields such as literature, art, politics, religion, medicine and science is the translation itself. Such a serious phenomenon should be shaped with a mission and vision of the past, present and future and in a systematic and planned manner in accordance with the pre-determined standards special to a country or nation– (i.e. for this study, Turkish language and Turkish culture, goals for, deficiencies and needs in the Turkish context) and institutionalization is an important key to manage this. When the regulation of translation activities is considered, such an institutional approach can take place acting in a corporate manner in three main points in Turkey. 1. The institutionalization of the translation activities as a product: following a systematic translation policy by creating inspection and control mechanisms in the creation and execution of translation products. 2. To form an institutional framework in the profession of translating and interpreting: Resorting to certification and standardization in the profession of translating and interpreting. Both for the dignity of the profession and the profession to be performed within a certain extent of quality and correctness, i

This study aims to determine the level of the communication between lecturers and teacher candidates and to understand whether the communication level changes according to some variables. The sample consists of 351 teacher candidates who study at the İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Education Faculty in 2014-2015 academic year and 203 teacher candidates who study at Bulgaria Trakia University Education Faculty (total 554). “Communication Skills Rating Scale” developed by Karagöz ve Kösterelioğlu (2008) is used as the data collection tool. The research is organized according to survey model since it aims to determine the existing conditions. The perceptions of Sabahattin Zaim University students about lecturer communication skills are relatively moderate compared to the overall average scores, in subscales respect, expression skills, values, motivation and democratic attitudes relatively high and in subscale barriers relatively very low. The perceptions of students about lecturer communication skills showed a significant difference in department and class variables and it doesn’t show significant difference in gender, age and marital status variable. The perceptions of Trakia University students about lecturer communication skills are relatively high in general average, respect, expression skills, values, motivation and democratic attitudes and in subscale barriers relatively low. The perceptions of students about lecturer communication skills showed a significant difference in gender and class variables and it doesn’t show significant difference in department, age and marital status variable.

The aim of this study was to develop and then perform the validity and reliability evaluation of an assessment tool that will be used to determine the attitude of secondary education students toward Turkish literature classes. The study group consisted of 566 secondary school students attending schools in Erzurum city center during the 2014/2015 academic year. The factor structure of the scale was evaluated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. A four-dimensional structure that accounted for 58.39% of the total variance was obtained, and the model fit for this structure was found to be adequate (X2/sd=2.42, RMSEA=.078, RMR= .075, NFI=.97, NNFI= .97, CFI=.97, IFI=.98, RFI=.98, AGFI=.92, GFI=.94). Internal consistency and two half-test reliability analyses were performed, with sufficient data being obtained to assess the reliability of the scale. A review of the literature reveals that the only study investigating the attitude of students towards Turkish literature courses is the study of Akcaoğlu and Saydım (2009), with there being no other studies on the subject. The study of Akcaoğlu and Saydım had used a questionnaire as assessment tool. Thus, within the frame of their study, they have not developed a new scale for assessing high school student attitudes towards Turkish Literature courses. Based on the results our study, it is possible to say that a reliable and valid assessment tool for determining the attitudes of secondary school students towards Turkish literature classes has been developed.

The Evaluation of Charter School System According to the Views of School Administrator

Introduction. The analysis of education systems of developed countries shows that they employ various methods in different areas of their countries and different levels of education. Although all of these different approaches and methods in education systems have similar aims in common, systems like charter school system have an authentic structure (Hesapçıoğlu ve Çelebi, 2011). Charter school system is employing or leaving the right to manage and teach at a school to a private educational institution, family board or assosication of teachers/adminitrators (Knopp, 2008). By doing this, some of the developed countries such as England, Canada, USA and Sweeden aim to provide new options to families and students and promote competion (Zimmer vd., 2012; Jinnai, 2014; Winters, 2012). In this system, a contract is made and the state generally grants a subsidiary per student to the assosiciation or institution. The institution is responsible for running educational practises and the state checks and supervises the isnstitutions to see whether they meet the national standards or not (charterschoolcenter.org; Zimmer ve Buddin, 2006; Knopp, 2008; Kamienski, 2008). In the near future, as the government passed a legislation prohibiting private courses, the Ministry of Natioanal Education in Turkey will need supporting systems to enrich school options for students and parents. Because of that reason, such authentic and untried systems may be tried in pilot studies. This study aims to lay the theoretical background to such studies beforehand. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicability of the Charter School System according to the views of the school administrators. As the private courses in Turkey will be closed in 2015, Ministry of National Education will need supporting systems to meet the education needs of the public. In this regard, Charter School System is a distinctive school management and education system that can be employed for this purpose. This study has been conducted by researchers in order to investigate the applicability of such a system and contribute to literature in the area. Within the scope of the general purpose of the study, the applicability, advantages/contributions and disadvantages of this system were investigated. Method. Qualitative research method was employed in this study. The data of the research was collected via focus group interviews (two interviews) in which 9 school administrators from different types of schools and seniority levels participated. After the two focus group interviews, the researchers were of the opinion that the data set of the study reached saturation point. For this reason, interview part of the study was ended. The interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed. Both of the interviews lasted for nearly one hour. The transcription of the records provided the researchers with raw data on which descriptive and content analysis were carried out. After the analyses, themes, sub-themes and codes were created and categorized. Also with descriptive analysis, the themes and sub-themes were supported with direct annotations. The validity and reliability of the research were ensured in different ways. First of the techniques employed for validity and reliability was two researchers’ taking part in the interviews together to ensure the objectivity of the researchers. The second was getting two participants check the content of the transcriptions in case of writing or lexical/semantic mistakes. The participants didn’t find any mistakes and confirmed the transcriptions of interviews clear and flawless. The last was including fellow scholars as coders to check and recode the themes and codes of the study to procure inter-coder reliability (Miles and Hubermann, 1994; Yıldırım ve Şimşek, 2013: 259). The consistency rate of inter-coder reliability was found to be 94,66 %. Findings. In the study, pre-determined themes were used, and the codes reached upon the analysis of
