In almost all of these dictionaries, there are words indicating the characteristics of the dialects different from the dominant written language of the era. Dictionaries of the dialects of Turkish spoken in Turkey have attracted much research. In the construction of these dictionaries, there are some methodological problems relating to organization and word selection

If a word reflects more than one concept, it is called polysemy. Especially frequently used words display polysemy. As the meaning has a changeable and expandable structure, there may be hierarchical changes between the denotative, connotative and figurative meaning of a word. Accordingly, the figurative meaning of a word may become its denotative meaning in historical process. In this article, it is suggested that some figurative meanings of 101 chosen words as stated in Turkish Dictionary (TDK 2005) cannot be considered as figurative today; moreover imputed figurative meanings of these words have become denotative meaning.

The compilation studies carried out at the field occupy a significant place among the language studies as well as on-the-desk works. As in worldwide, Russian compilation studies were carried out in late 1800s sometimes by scientists and sometimes by amateurs by taking small scale regions as a basis. In these small scale compilation studies those words included in dialects spoken in the ragion and not used in the common Russian have drawn Russian scietific circles’ attention. Yet a compiled dictionary work at a scientific level was carried out in 1965. This compilation dictionary we will attempt to introduce is being taken as a primary source in the works by Russian scietists on topics such as dialect features. However, this compilation dictionary has also the quality to be taken as a source by Turkologs since it shows Turkisms prevalent in dialects and how they are used in Russian dialects by undergoing differentiation.

Throughout the history, poets and writers have used common proverbs, sayings and idioms in their work in order to express their feelings and thoughts in a better and more powerful way. Our classical poets followed that path, and reflected their era in their work by successfully using the society’s language materials. Divan poetry became enriched by the use of idioms, sayings, proverbs and metaphors. Sabit, who is a seventeenth-century poet, used proverbs, sayings and idioms heavily in his poets.

Dictionaries are basic resources of vocabulary of a language. Vocabulary of a language is made up of rich concepts such as words, idioms, terms, proverbs, stereotyped words, metaphors, and connotations. Rich quality of the vocabulary appears with the use of the language. Elements, such as terms, idioms, metaphors, connotations, dialects, and accents come up through the process of language use. Dictionaries (i.e. dictionary of idioms, dictionary of dialects) are prepared pursuant to this rich composition developed in the world of meanings of a language. Lexicology, which is a sub-branch of linguistics, is interested in development of dictionaries. Many parameters such as origin, meaning, type of a word are considered while preparation of dictionaries. Polysemy is one of the most important points to be considered during development dictionaries. Basic meaning of a word, together with its idioms, connotations, and metaphors has reflections from the conceptual world of a language. Appropriate contexts should be composed to present richness of this world. Samples from literature may be used in composing these contexts. One of main functions of dictionaries is their usage as a teaching-learning material. Statements used for explanation of meanings of words, especially in school and bilingual dictionaries, have effects on learning.

Leaving aside Hüseyin Kazım Kadri’s Turkish Dictionary, dictionary studies about Turkish dialects in Turkish Turcology are the translations of dictionaries prepared out of Turkey in 1940s. These studies started again in 1980s after a long pause. Hayati Develi’s Azerbaijani Turkish Dictionary is the first dialect dictionary published after a long time. After this comes Kazakh and Gagavuz Turks’ translation dictionary. 1990s is a period in which there were intensive dictionary studies about Turkish dialects and many dialect dictionaries most of which were translations were published. This intensity during 1990s continued also in 2000s. Although many dictionaries were based on studies conducted by some foreigners, there are also some comprehensive dictionaries prepared professionally by scanning all related dictionaries and literary works. Among these studies, New Uighur Turkish Dictionary is the one that should be primarily dwelled on. The first and the only dictionary on Uighur Turkish in Turkey is the translation of Necipoviç’s dictionary. Uighurs today live in two different areas, the written language dialects of them are different and these are not mentioned in the dictionary, which is the greatest deficiency. Besides this, the translator doesn’t know Turkey Turkish well and this causes this first and the only dictionary published in Turkey to create disappointment. Shortcomings and mistakes in this dictionary give us clues about how the dictionary studies that will be conducted about Turkish dialects should be.

Thematic Dictionaries consist of words related to a subject or thema, arranning them in entry and sub-entry fasion and defining in this way. That there doesn’t exist their widely accepted draft from preparation method point is among problems encountered in thematic dictionary studies. Sameness of methods in languages’ words arranged in alphabetical order are not being seen in the thematic words. In our language number of study on thematic words is rather few. During our research we haven’t reached any thematic dictionary study as distinc with respect to Turkish. Studies frequently encountered in some languages such as rusian, german and English should be conducded also in Turkish.

“[Büyük] Türk Lügati” (The Great Turkish Dictionary), formed by four covers, which is written by Hüseyin Kâzım Kadri in the result of long, continual and tiresome efforts, with a rough classificaition, comprises two main branches of Turkish language: Western Turkish and Eastern Turkish. The dictionary that is mostly supported by literary examples, is the whole dictionary of Turkish polishes and accents (Uigur, Chagatay, Azeri, Khazakh, Yakhut, Chuvash Turkish, etc) connected with Turkish language at close or distant range, right along with including the vocabulary came from Turkish, Aabic, Persian and Western languages (Italian, French, Latin, Romaic, English, etc) which took a place in Ottoman Turkish. It’s certain that the “Türk Lügati” is the initiator in Turksih lexicography history from the standpoint of being considered as the index with exaples of the words whic originates from Turkish together wits its polishes and branches, in addition to the quoted words in Tukish (and also it’s certain that is shelters all the positive and negative pecuilarities of being initial). This article is consisting of roughly appraising and introduction of this dictionary which is characterized as a turning point in historical Turkish lexicography.

Not only should we establish good relations in every field with Turkish Republics with which we share the same cultural values and the same language but also overvalue such good relations. In order for such mutual relations to be improved, with a view to a comprison between the Turkish languages spoken by our kinships outside Turkey, studies of highly scientific value should be done. Moreover, in order to establish a common language of communication, conducting some other comparative studies in the field of language terms is of great importance in terms of whatever we are likely to face, difficulties or easiness. In this study, through a comparison between Turkish and Uzbec literary terms, answers to the questions concerned with the idea of terminology commonness or unity were inquired in parallel with the idea stated above. One other aim of this study is to provide source materials for those who want to do research in the related field.

The most recent expeditions to Iran have been conducted by Doerfer and his team (in the years 1969 and 1973) though the researches on Turkmen language are still incomplete. In the present paper, we are going to present the translation of a sample text from Persian into Gumbad dialect, in additon to a gloassary with sample sentences. The text questions why in Iran, especially in this region where Khorasan people are densely populated, the mother tongue is not spoken any more.
The Calligraphy, the illumination and the binding are among classical Turkish-Islamic arts. Whereas a great number of arts belonging to old times are not able to survive in the global world, the interest in these arts has been continuing even a little. On the other hand, the interest of Turkish and Western researchers in the arts of calligraphy, the illumination and the binding increases more and more. In that case, it is also necessary to know terms used in these branches of art. In this study, glossaries prepared for terms of the calligraphy, the illumination and the binding and works, a part of which has characteristics of glossary though they are not a glossary, are introduced and evaluated.
