His poems contain themes that harken to cultural ties to Persia and India. He brings out a new poetry style that based on knowledge and culture. Many of his poems seem to be ambiguous and a mystery formula. His has “different” style from other poets at his time. Therefore, we called him “garip” (stranger).
Literary works can take place in another literary work in different ways, and they can direct its formation. Selim İleri uses some literary works in some of his novels which he wrote after 1990. Known headed writers of Turkish literature who wrote in the late Ottoman period and early Republic period, social and polictical relations in those writers’ period and conventional world in these works became materials for his novels. Selim İleri does this because he wants the resurrection of a past period, a lost culture and a past literature that was approached ungratefully. He wants to form a conscious. Using literature as a material for novel in selim İleri’s novels puts pressure on limits of novel genre.

The idea that East civilization is introverted and metaphysical and West civilization is extraverted and materialist has a general acceptance in the world. The time conception of East and West civilizations should have connections with these qualifications. The time conception of Turkish poetry had altered significantly in ten decades from the beginning of Tanzimat reforms in 1850s to the Second New Movement which occurred and developed during the 1950s. This alteration built up a part of the alteration on the whole of Turkish poetry and also it is not independent of.

World War II started actually on 1st September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany, then spread to almost the three fourths of the world with the partaking of the states in the war such as England, France, Russia, Italy, Japan, and ended on 9th August 1945 with the atomic bomb dropped by the USA on Nagazaki. Due to the importance of its strategic location, Turkey was desired to partake in the war, but the Republic of Turkey, adopting the principle “Peace at home, peace in the world”, refused to enter the war on the condition that its territorial integrity would not be threatened, and managed not to partake in this war by resisting to pressures made. However, although it did not enter the war, Turkey had to put up with great difficulties during those years, and there appeared an extremely negative picture especially economically. Turkish writers regarded World War II as material for literature as they did any other political and social events affecting the country deeply and considered it their duty to hand on this historical period to next generations. The novels mentioning World War II dealt with not only the state of Turkey managing to stay “out of the stage” during this war, but also the situations of the states partaking in the war such as Poland, Yugoslavia, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, and Russia and the people living in these countries.

Especially novel, story and play writers have frequently recourse to the history as they find prepared material in history. One of the interesting historical events of 17th century is Genc Osman’s assassination, which has been processed by three Turkish play writers. Although their themes are the same, every writer gives the reasons and results of the event with his contemporary interpretation. Writers do not work a historical event with its previous analysis, but they add some messages to the modern human being.

History and the sultans have crucial places in the works of Abdulhak Hamid Tarhan. The topics of his dramas have been driven form the history, because of this the main characters of the dramas are mostly the sultans. In order to criticise the sultan of his time, he make use of these allogoric sultan characters. Since there was no role model like Namık Kemal, he expressed his opposition to the system with the help of allogory. It is obvious that he tried to create an aura against Sultans and the monarchism. It is neccessary to look at the historical topics in his works from this perspective. The intention of Hamid is not to write a history book and to give informatin about the historical events and people, but to criticise the dynasty and to explain his ideas about the system of Ottoman Empire.

New historisizm that tries to explain literary works in the light of texts which are not literary works focuses on theoretical dimension of history. This approach which causes to be suspicious about nearly all cultural values first of all history explains historical information as contradictions ball that presented as if a truth and constituted under the protection of period people who was in power. In the end a historical view whose origin based on history but it's basic is interpreted and constituted. This condition brings a different structure by the means of narration even if arouses contradictions for reader. Nedim Gürsel constituted his novels which we study on according to these principles and he tried to show that history in the background of the novel characters can be interpreted and new meanings can always be given in the triangle between the meaning the text and the reality. In this sense, to determine common tendencies between new historical literary method's most dominant principles and Nedim Gürsel's novels which we study on constitutes the essence of our study.

The process experienced before and right after the Administrative Reforms (Tanzimat) is considered to be a turning point in Turkish history of thought. In this process during which social, political, and cultural life changed drastically, the conventional religious thoughts began to alter by the effects of western thought currents; and most Turkish enlightened people fell into a belief crisis caused by the positivist and materialistic movements. The enlightened people and artists fell into a dilemma between the East and the West which are two different worlds. Some conceptions and cases which were within the Islamic lines opened to be debated; and these debates and crises reflected also on the poetry of the period of Administrative Reforms (Tanzimat). Şinasi, Ziya Paşa and Abdülhak Hamid are the poets whose poems have such characteristics. The themes in these poets’ works are very important in that they show the belief crises.

In Republic Period, especially in the poetry until 1940’s, the conflict of sacred knowledge and worldly knowledge had been going on. Ga¬rip style, New poetry which has became more dominant with Second New Poetry, has brought a serious evolution on traditional mentality. However, Turkish Poetry also hasn’t abandoned refusing the previous accumulations habit, also hasn’t neglected Divan and Folk literature Poetry resources and also has been under Western Poetry effect. Eventually, Turkish Poetry has determined modernityas a stand, further more has conceded tradition insuperable.

Impacts of important social events on literature can be determined and identified through researches done on literal works. The initial examples of violent actions in the period between 1960 and 1980 when rebellious and terror actions made a peak in Turkey were seen before 1960. During this period, the state confronted with the army and various groups (students, civil servants, labors etc) and the escalated tension resulted in the May 27 military coup. The Prime Minister of the time Adnan Menderes and the ruling Democrat Party were at the heart of the developments in this period which have become subject to a number of researches and studies from different disciplines. This study reviews six novels which concern the May 27 era and seeks how the authors of these novels treat Menderes and Democrat Party. The article concludes that the novels hold Menderes and his party liable for the political, social and economic crises in this period.

Stendhal’s “the mirror hold up to the street” fact, which’s valid more than two hundred years, defines the vein of literature and life. This definition of novel evolves to reflex innerworld in modernist period. Besides being the soul constitutive identity, literary work of nationalities demonstrates very important signs from social and politics way of life. Since administrative reforms Turkish literature has close contact to politics in some stages. Therefore, social and politics reading tendency can clearly be seen in literature analysis. From the first generation of administrative reforms to the republic period, many different kinds of literary works about the three military revolutions, collectivist realistic tendency manner and about worker’s life that migrate to Germany, has been written. These mentioned periods could be an indication to the fact that Turkish literature is within the politics. The reflection of 12th September military revolution seen clearly in novel is one of the periods in which the dose of politics in literature increased. Adalet Ağaoğlu’s Hayır… (No…), Kaan Arslanoğlu’s Devrimciler (Revolutionaries), Mehmet Eroğlu’s Yüz: 1981 (Face: 1981), Ahmet Altan’s Sudaki İz (Trace in Water), Orhan Pamuk’s Sessiz Ev (Silent House) are among the few novels that reflect this period without engaging it to the ideologies. This article is an attempt for contrastively and analytically evaluation of the 12th September revolution’s reflections on Turkish Literature using above mentioned examples.
