İslâm âleminde hayatı eserleri ve özellikle de verdiği fetvalarıyla tanınmış olan İbn Teymiyye, (ö. 728/1328) yaşadığı dönemden günümüze kadar, üzerinde tartışmaların yaşandığı ve farklı görüşlerinden dolayı birçok sıkıntıya maruz kalan bir şahsiyettir. Kuvvetli hafızası ve ilmî, ilim ehlini ve halktan kitleleri etkilemeye başarmıştır. O, inandığı değerler ve kabul ettiği mutlak doğruların uygulanması için toplumda Kur’an ve Hadise mugayir gördüğü şeylere müdahale eder ve düzeltmeye çalışırdı, bunun için yazmış olduğu el- Akîdetü’l-Vâsıtiyye adlı eserindeki itikadî görüşleri sebebiyle, âlimler arasında ciddi münakaşaların yaşanmasına sebep olmuştur. Allah’ın yaratıklarına duyulan sevgi ve saygıda ölçüyü kaçıranlar, peygamberlere ve sâlih kimselere saygıda ifrat edenler ve rab konumuna getirenler mülhid olmuşlardır diyerek, Peygamber’in ve onun getirmiş olduğu Kur’an’dan yüz çevirenler ahirette pişman olacaklardır diyerek, Ehli Sünnet inancı çerçevesinde, tenkitlerini sapık fırkalara, vahdeti vücud akımına, hulûl fikrinde olanlara, felsefecilere yoğunlaştırmış, bid’atlere, aşırılığa, hurafelere savaş açmıştır. Bid‘at ehlini İslam’ın özüne dönmeye davet etmiş, hayatını İslam’a, hizmete ve ilme adamış, ibadet ve amel-i salih yoluyla, ahlakî faziletleri elde ederek dünya-ahiret saadetini temin etmeyi amaçlamıştır. Ehl-i hadis ekolüne mensup olan İbn Teymiyye, dönemindeki birçok kişi ve ekollere tenkitler yapmıştır. İlmi çalışmalarında tevhîd akidesini koruyarak, tevhîd inancına muhalif görüş beyan edenleri tekfir etmekten çekinmemiştir. O, İslâm dışı medeniyetleri tenkit ederken, yaşadığı çağın siyasî ve dinî hadiselerini dikkate alarak İslamî ilimlerde müçtehit seviyesine ulaşarak geride birçok eser bırakmıştır. Hemen her dalda görüş belirtmiş, İslam dünyasına çok değerli ve özgün düşünceler sunmuş, müçtehit, Ehlisünnet âlimi, velûd bir müellif ve dava adamıdır. Çalışmamızda, İbn Teymiyye’nin Akidetü’l-Vasıtıyye’de yer alan iman konularını Ehl-i Sünnet tasavvuru ile ilgili görüşlerinin önemini, bununla ilgili ifade etmiş olduğu görüşlerini sistemli bir şekilde ele alarak, sözlerini bir arada değerlendirmekle fark edileceğinin kanaatindeyiz.

Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728/1328), known for his life, works and fatwas, was a scholar who had been mostly criticized for his different opinions until today. With his strong mind and profound knowledge, he was able to influence masses in the society. In order to maintain the values he believed and perform the truth he acknowledged, he interfered in the things which he deemed as adverse to Quran and Hadith and tried to amend them. For this reason, he wrote the book entitled el-Akîdetü’l-Vâsıtiyye. But, for his views on faith, the book caused much controversy among Islamic scholars. In his book, Ibn Taymiyyah simply claimed that those who exaggerated the love and respect for the things Allah created and those who overdid the respect for the Prophet and Good People and accepted them as God would become infidels. He further argued that those who stood away the Prophet and his Book (Quran) would regret in the hereafter. Within the framework of the philosophy adopted by the Followers of Sunnah, he criticized pervert groups including unity of existence movement and those philosophers who believed in the unity of God and soul. He also pledged a war on new things that were unsuitable for Islam (Bid’at), extremism and superstitions. He invited those reformists to convert into the essence of Islam. Ibn Taymiyyah devoted all his life to the service of Islam, scholarly knowledge, worship, good deeds, and moral virtues. By doing so, he aimed for the happiness both in the world and hereafter. Ibn Taymiyyah, who is a member of Hadith School, criticized many people that belonged to different schools in his time. By preserving the notion of oneness in his scholarly studies, he attacked those who presented his opinions which were opposed to the tawhid faith. He also criticised non-Islamic civilizations and published many books about political and religious issues in the era. Therefore, he became a true interpreter of Islamic law and Islamic studies. By extensively publishing on every field of Islamic studies, he presented many valuable and unique views on Islam and therefore was acknowledged as an interpreter, scholar, prolific writer and a man with a cause. In our study, we examine the views of Ibn Taymiyyah on faith in his book titled Akidetü’l-Vasıtıyye. We try to emphasize the importance of his concept of Followers of Sunnah by systematically analysing his words and opinions on these matters.
