Fantastik, olağanüstü veya hayalî olanın anlatımına imkân tanıyan modern bir yazın formudur. Olağanüstünün anlatımı, “hayal edebiyatı” olarak da adlandırılan Doğu edebiyatı klasiklerinin omurgasıdır. Fantastiğin geleneksel anlatılarla olan köken bağı, bu anlatıların, modern bir formda yeniden yazımına da imkân tanımaktadır. Son dönemde destan, masal, efsane, menkıbe ve mit gibi geleneksel anlatılar, çağdaş bir yazın formu olan fantastiğin imkânlarıyla yeniden yorumlanmaktadır. Bu yazın pratiği geleneksel anlatıların çocuk edebiyatına kazandırılması yönünde önemli bir adımdır. Böylece kadim bir kültür, medeniyet, dil ve düşünce geleneğinin yaşayan hafızası durumundaki bu metinler, günümüz çocuğunun dil, düşünce, anlam ve değer dünyasına kazandırılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada on iki adet fantastik çocuk romanı incelenmiş, bu eserlerde, Doğu anlatı geleneğinin kültürel hazinesi olan İslam mitolojisine ait figürlere sıkça yer verildiği tespit edilmiştir. Kıssa, menkıbe veya cenknâme gibi geleneksel dinî anlatıların, bu eserlerde kurucu metin işlevi gördüğü kanaatine varılmıştır. Bu eserlerin tetkikinde, fantastik türün, İslam inanç sistemine dair soyut konuların somutlaştırılarak çocuğa aktarılmasının imkânı olarak görüldüğü fark edilmiştir. Kur’an kıssaları ya da dinî, tarihî, tasavvufî şahsiyetlerin menkıbevî yaşamları fantastik tür içerisinde kurgulanan İslami izleklerdendir. Bilhassa Hz. Ali, Hz. Süleyman gibi dinî-tarihî şahsiyetler etrafında oluşan, halk arasında bu kişilere duyulan sevgiden kaynaklanan, sözlü kültürden beslenen mitolojik anlatıların İslam mitolojisi içerisinde hacimli bir yer tuttuğu tespit edilmiştir. Bir tür evren-örneklem çalışması olan bu nitel araştırmada, fantastik çocuk romanlarındaki İslam dini kaynaklarından beslenen mitolojik figürleri tespit ederek bu anlatıları besleyen İslami imge, sembol ve arketipleri ortaya koyduk. Bu eserlerde, çocuklara dinî izleklerin aktarılmasında fantastiğin kurmaca ile ilişkisinden yararlanılarak dinî iletilerin çocuk bakışına yaklaştırıldığını gözlemledik.
Fantasy is a modern literary form that enables the narration of the extraordinary and the imaginary. Representations of the extraordinary constitute the backbone of Eastern literary classics, often described as “imaginative literature.” The traditional narrative roots of fantasy also allow for the rewriting of these narratives in a modern form. In recent times, traditional narratives such as epics, fairy tales, legends, anecdotes and myths have been reinterpreted through the possibilities offered by the fantasy genre, a contemporary literary form. This literary practice represents a significant step towards incorporating traditional narratives into children’s literature. Thus, these texts—which serve as the living memory of an ancient culture, civilisation, language and intellectual tradition—are being introduced into the world of language, thought, meaning and values of today’s children. In this study, twelve fantasy children’s novels were examined, and it was found that figures from Islamic mythology—the cultural treasure of the Eastern narrative tradition—are frequently featured in these works. It has been concluded that traditional religious narratives, such as parables (kıssa), hagiographic tales (menkıbe) or epic battle narratives (cenknâme), serve as foundational texts in these works. In the analysis of these works, it was noted that the fantasy genre is seen as a means of concretising abstract concepts related to the Islamic belief system and conveying them to children. Quranic parables or the legendary lives of religious, historical, and Sufi figures are among the Islamic themes constructed within the fantasy genre. In particular, it has been established that mythological narratives centred on religious-historical figures such as Ali and Solomon—which stem from the love felt for these individuals among the people and are nourished by oral culture—occupy a significant place within Islamic mythology. In this qualitative study, which constitutes a kind of universe-sample analysis, we identified the mythological figures drawn from Islamic religious sources in fantasy children’s novels and revealed the Islamic imagery, symbols and archetypes that underpin these narratives. In these works, we observed that religious messages are made more accessible to a child’s perspective by utilising the relationship between fantasy and fiction in the transmission of religious themes to children.
