Diğer Türk dünyası edebiyatlarında olduğu gibi Kazak edebiyatı da dönemin siyasi, sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel olaylarına göre şekillenir. Kazak edebiyatında nesir türü Sovyetler Birliği dönemindeki siyasi olaylardan etkilenmiş olsa da çok önemli yazarlar bu dönemde yetişmiştir. Sovyet Öncesi ve Sovyet sonrası edebiyat olarak incelenebilecek Kazak edebiyatı daha sonra bağımsızlık sonrası daha hür bir ortamda eserler ortaya koymuştur. İlk akla gelecek yazarlar, Muhtar Avezov, Abay Kunanbayev, Saken Seyfullin vb gibi olsa da Adam Mekebayev gibi Kazak edebiyatında önemli eserler veren yazarlar da vardır. Ancak bu yazarların kendi sınırlarını aşması eserlerinin çevrilmesi ve tanıtımlarının yapılmasıyla mümkündür. Bu çalışma; romanları, povestleri (uzun öykü) ve kısa hikayeleriyle tanınan Adam Mekebayev’in edebi kişiliği ve hikayeciliğinin anlaşılabilmesi gerekliliğinden doğmuştur. Sovyet Döneminde dünyaya gelen ve dönemin şahidi olan yazar bunu eserleri aracılığıyla anlatmıştır. Kazak halkının Sovyet dönemindeki yaşadığı zorluklar, gelenek ve görenekler, sosyal adaletsizlik, kolhoz sistemi, toplumsal yozlaşma, aşk, ihanet, fedakârlık dolu olaylar, savaş yıllarında yaşanılan açlık sefalet günleri gibi pek çok temayı ele alır. Romanları yanı sıra yedi povesti ve sekiz kısa hikayesi bulunmaktadır. Adam Mekebayev’in hikayeleri incelendikçe onun yazarlık yeteneği dışında Sovyet dönemi de bir resim tablosu gibi okurun gözünde canlanacaktır. Bu bakımdan Dönemin ve yazarın Kazak edebiyatı dışında da tanınması ve eserleri üzerinde merak unsurunun uyanması için bu çalışma ortaya çıkmıştır.
Like other literatures of the Turkic world, Kazakh literature has been shaped by the political, social, economic, and cultural events of its time. Although prose in Kazakh literature was heavily influenced by the political atmosphere of the Soviet Union era, many significant writers emerged during this period. Kazakh literature, which can be analyzed in two main stages as Pre-Soviet and Soviet-era, has produced works in a much freer environment following the post-independence period. While names like Mukhtar Auezov, Abay Kunanbayev, and Saken Seyfullin are the first to come to mind, there are other crucial figures like Adam Mekebayev who have contributed significant works to Kazakh literature. However, for such authors to transcend national borders, their works must be translated and promoted internationally. This study arises from the necessity to understand the literary personality and storytelling of Adam Mekebayev, who is renowned for his novels, povests (novellas), and short stories. Born during the Soviet era and a witness to that period, Mekebayev depicted these experiences through his works. He tackles a wide range of themes, including the hardships faced by the Kazakh people under Soviet rule, traditions and customs, social injustice, the kolkhoz system, social corruption, and stories filled with love, betrayal, and sacrifice, as well as the days of hunger and poverty experienced during the war years. In addition to his novels, he authored seven novellas and eight short stories. As Adam Mekebayev’s stories are examined, his writerly talent will unfold, and the Soviet era will come to life in the reader’s mind like a vivid painting. Therefore, this study has been conducted to introduce both the period and the author beyond the borders of Kazakh literature and to spark curiosity regarding his works.
