Türk Devleti’nin uluslararası topluluklarda yer almasını sağlayan Lozan Barış Antlaşması ile Türk devriminin silahlı eylem aşaması tamamlanmıştır. Bundan sonra yıkılan, bozulan eski düzenin yerine yeni düzen kurulması ve sosyal hayatın icaplarına uygun olarak devlete ve topluma düzen verilmesi çalışmaları başlamıştır. TBMM Hükümeti, daha ilk günden itibaren sosyal hayatın çeşitli safhalarında yaşanan sorunları tespit etmek ve halk sağlığı başta olmak üzere ekonomi, nüfus, eğitim, coğrafya ve üretim konularında ülkenin sayısal verilerini saptamak amacıyla geniş çaplı bir çalışma başlatmıştır. Sağlık ve Sosyal Yardım Bakanlığı’nın himayesinde başlatılan bu özverili çalışmalar sonunda, 1922-1938 yılları arasında Türkiye’nin sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve sağlık konularındaki gerçekliğini ortaya koyan toplam yirmi rapor yayınlanmıştır. Cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında “Türkiye’nin Sıhhi ve İctimai Coğrafyası” başlığı altında yayınlanan bu raporlar, vilayet ve sancaklara ait önemli iktisadi, sosyal, tarihsel, coğrafi ve idari bilgiler içermektedir. 1925 yılında basımı gerçekleştirilen raporlardan birisi de Cebel-i Bereket vilayetine aittir. Bu çalışmada, Cebel-i Bereket’in Cumhuriyet dönemine devrolunan sosyal, kültürel ve iktisadi koşulları adı geçen rapor çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiş ve şehrin Cumhuriyet döneminde kat ettiği gelişmeler tahlil edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda Osmanlı döneminde pamuk ve tahıl üretimiyle özdeşleşen kentin, Cumhuriyet döneminde tarımsal ürün çeşitliliğinde büyük bir artış ve yoğun bir sanayileşme sürecine girdiği tespit edilmiştir. İktisadi sıçrama olgusunu çarpıcı biçimde yansıtan Cebel-i Bereket vilayetinin durumu hakkında sağlıklı bilgiler içeren yazılı kaynakların azlığı dikkate alındığında, birinci elden otantik bilgiler içeren bu eserin sosyal ve ekonomik açılardan değerlendirilmesiyle, mevcut literatüre ve yerel tarih araştırmacılarına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

The armed action phase of the Turkish revolution was completed with the Lausanne Peace Treaty, which enabled the Turkish State to take part in international communities. After that, the efforts to establish a new order and replace the old order, which was destroyed and broken, and to give order to the state and society in accordance with the demands of social life, started. The Government of the Parliament has initiated a wide-ranging study from the very first day in order to identify the problems experienced at various stages of social life and to determine the country's numerical data on issues such as public health, economy, population, education, geography and production. As a result of these selfless efforts initiated under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Welfare, a total of twenty reports which demonstrated the reality of the subjects about Turkey's social, cultural, economic and health between the years 1922-1938 were published. These reports published under the title of "Turkey's Sanitary and Social Geography" in the early years of the Republic contain extremely important economical, social, historical, geographical and administrative information about the province and the counties. One of the reports prepared in this context and published in 1925 belongs to the province of Cebel-i Bereket. In this study, the social, cultural and economic conditions of Cebel-i Bereket transferred to the Republic period were evaluated within the framework of the said report and the developments that the city made during the Republican period were analyzed. In this context, it was determined that the city, which was identified with cotton and grain production in the Ottoman period, entered a period of great increase in agricultural product diversity and an intense industrialization period. Considering the scarcity of written sources containing healthy information about the state of Cebel-i Bereket, which reflects the economic leap phenomenon in a striking manner, it is thought that this work, which contains authentic information at first hand, will contribute to the existing literature and local history researchers.
