Tarihi kayıtlara göre Bâd b. Dostık, 976-977 yılında ilk defa Hamdanî-Bizans sınırında kendini göstererek Malazgirt’i almış ve Muş’u yağmalamıştır. Musul Hamdanîleri, 978 yılında Büveyhî hükümdarı Adudüddevle ile giriştikleri savaşta yenilince, Hamdanîlerin hâkim olduğu Diyâr-ı Bekr Bölgesi’ndeki şehirler Büveyhîlerin eline geçmiştir. Diyâr-ı Bekr’in kuzeyindeki şehirlerde, Bizans İmparatorluğu’nun himayesindeki Ermeni Prensliklerinin topraklarında gaza faaliyetleri yürütüp bazı kentleri elinde bulunduran Bâd b. Dostık, Büveyhî vezirinin aracılığı ile Musul’da Adudüddevle’nin huzuruna çıkmış ama istediğini alamamıştır. Adudüddevle, Bâd’ın tutumundan hoşlanmayarak tutuklanmasını istemiş fakat Bâd kaçmayı başarmıştır. Bâd, bu tarihten Adudüddevle’nin 983 yılındaki ölümüne kadar, Bizans ile anlaşarak Büveyhîlerin elinde olan Diyâr-ı Bekr şehirlerine saldırmıştır. Adudüddevle’nin ölümünü fırsat bilen Bâd, Büveyhî topraklarını ele geçirerek Musul’a kadar ilerlemiştir. Bağdat’a giderek Büveyhîleri ortadan kaldırmak istemiş ancak onlarla yaptığı savaşta yenilmiştir. Büveyhîler, yendikleri ama ortadan kaldıramadıkları Bâd ile anlaşma yoluna gitmişlerdir. Bâd, 377 (987-988) yılında Musul valisinin ölümüyle oluşan otorite boşluğu nedeniyle harekte geçerek bölgeye hâkim olmak istemiş fakat savaş meydanında öldürülmüştür. Bâd’ın buradaki faaliyetleri Ukaylî ve Nümeyrî devletlerinin kurulmasına ortam hazırlamıştır. Bir asırdan fazla ayakta kalan bu devlet, kurulduğu bölgede önemli imar faaliyetleri gerçekleştirmiş ve bu eserlerin bir kısmı günümüze kalmıştır. Mervânî Devleti’nin kuruluşu, bölgenin dini ve etnik yapısının değişmesinde etkili olmuştur. Bu çalışmada tarih sahnesinde önemli izler bırakan Mervânî Devleti’nin kurucusu Bâd b. Dostık’ın faaliyetleri ele alınacaktır.

According to historical records, Bâd b. Dostık showed himself for the first time in Hamdanid- Byzantine border in 976-977 and captured Malazgirt and plundered Muş. When Mosul Hamdanids were defeated in their war with the Buwahhids ruler Adududdevle in 978, the cities in the Diyâr-ı Bekr Region, where the Hamdanids were dominant, fell into the hands of Buwayhids. Carrying out ghaza activities and holding some cities in his hands in the north of the Diyar-i Bekr on the territory of the Armenian Principalities under the auspices of the Byzantine Empire, Bâd b. Dostık, went to the presence of Adududdevle in Mosul through the Buwahhid vizier but could not get what he wanted. Adududdevle did not like the attitude of Bâd and demanded that he be arrested, but Bâd managed to escape. From this date until the death of Adududdevle in 983, Bâd attacked the cities of Diyâr-ı Bekr, which were in the hands of Buwayhids by agreeing with Byzantium. Knowing the opportunity of the death of Adududdevle, Bâd advanced to Mosul by taking over the Buwayhids lands. He went to Baghdad and wanted to eliminate Buwayhids but was defeated in his war with them. Buwayhids went to an agreement with Bâd whom they defeated but could not eliminate. Due to the authority gap created by the death of the governor of Mosul in 377 (987-988), Bâd wanted to dominate the region, but he was killed on the battlefield. The activities of Bâd here prepared an environment for the formation of Uqaylid and Numayrid states. This state, which has been standing for more than a century, carried out important development activities in the region where it was founded and some of these works have survived to the present day. The establishment of Marwanids was effective in altering the religious and ethnic structure of the region. In this study, activities of Bâd b. Dostık, the founder of the Marwanid state which left significant traces on the stage of history, will be investigated comprehensively.
