Bu çalışmada, bilimsel araştırma kitaplarında yer alan tariflerin Türkçede anlaşılabilirliğini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Bir kavramın tarifini yapmak ve bunu yaparken usûlden ayrılmamak, bilhassa bilimsel araştırmada büyük bir önem arz etmektedir. Usûlsüz tarif, suni bir anlatıma ve terim karmaşasına neden olmaktadır. Bu durum, özellikle de yabancı dillerden Türkçeye geçen bazı terimlerde sıklıkla göze çarpmaktadır. Yabancı dil kaynaklı terimlerin birçoğu, Öz Türkçeleştirilme uğruna çeşitli şekillerde ele alınmakta, dolayısıyla literatürde tarifler konusunda bir anlaşılmazlık ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu amaçla çalışma kapsamında 32 adet bilimsel araştırma yöntemleri kitabı incelenmiş ve tariflerin Türkçede anlaşılabilirlik düzeyleri ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada doküman incelemesi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında seçilen bilimsel araştırma terimleri problem cümlesi, hipotez, yöntem, güvenirlik, araştırma deseni/modeli, sınırlılık ve korelasyonel araştırma ile sınırlı tutulmuştur. Örneklemin bu terimlerle sınırlı tutulmasının sebebi, seçilen terimlerin bilimsel araştırma basamaklarında en çok kullanılan kavramlar olmasıdır. Çalışma sonucunda araştırmacıların terim karmaşası yaşadığı, bilimsel araştırma terimlerini farklı isimlerle ele aldığı ve bunun neticesinde ortak bir anlayışın oluşmadığı, ayrıca bilhassa Batı dillerinden yapılan tarif çevirilerinde çeşitli dil bilgisi hataları olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak tariflerde yapılan en büyük hatalardan birinin, bir bilinmeyeni başka bir bilinmeyenle açıklamak olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu durum, muayyen bir kavramın tarifini öğrenmek isteyen bir kimsenin tarif içerisinde başka bilinmeyenlerle karşılaşmasına sebep olmaktadır. Tariflerde yapılan bu hatalar, anlaşılabilirliği olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Araştırmada, tarifler konusunda ortak bir anlayış oluşturulması için çalıştaylar düzenlenmesi ve sözlük bilimi konusunda yapılan araştırma sayısının artırılması önerilmiştir.

In this study, it is aimed to determine the intelligibility of the definitions in the scientific research books in Turkish. It is of great importance, especially in scientific research, to define a word and not to leave the method while doing it. The improper description causes an artificial expression and term confusion. This situation is especially noticeable in some terms that have been transferred from foreign languages to Turkish. Many of the terms originating from foreign languages are handled in various ways for the sake of pure Turkishization, so an incomprehensibility arises in the literature about definitions and descriptions. For this purpose, within the scope of the study, 32 scientific research methods books were examined and the intelligibility levels of the definitions in Turkish were discussed. Document analysis technique was used in the study. The scientific research terms selected within the scope of the study were limited to problem statement, hypothesis, method, reliability, research design/model, limitation and correlational research. The reason why the sample is limited to these terms is that the selected terms are the most used concepts in scientific research steps. As a result of the study, it was determined that the researchers had term confusion, they used different names for scientific research terms, and as a result, there was no common understanding, and there were various grammatical errors, especially in the translations of definitions from Western languages. In addition to these, it has been determined that one of the greatest mistakes made in the definitions is to explain an unknown term with another unknown. This situation causes a person who wants to learn the definition of a particular word to encounter other unknowns in the definition. These mistakes made in the definitions affect the intelligibility negatively. In the research, it was suggested to organize workshops and increase the number of researches on lexicography in order to create a common understanding on definitions.
