Çeviri eğitiminin amaçlarından biri çeviri piyasasının değişen şartlarına ve taleplerine uygun değil, uyum sağlayabilen çevirmenler yetiştirmektir. Bu çalışmada, söz konusu amaç ve İstanbul Üniversitesi İngilizce Mütercim-Tercümanlık Ana Bilim Dalının eğitim hedefleri ve koşulları çerçevesinde şekillendirilen Proje (Seminer) dersi betimlenmiştir. Proje (Seminer), Ana Bilim Dalının lisans programının sekizinci yarıyılında makale yazarı tarafından verilen uygulamalı bir derstir. Dersin çeviribilim literatürü ışığında değerlendirmesi yapılıp literatürden ve deneyimden hareketle iyileştirilmesine yönelik geliştirilen fikirler ele alınmıştır. Proje (Seminer) dersinin güçlü yanları teknoloji destekli, proje tabanlı ve öğrenci merkezli oluşu, simülasyon yöntemine başvurması ve tele çalışma ile yüz yüze eğitim modellerini bir arada kullanmasıdır. Dersin iş bölümüyle ve iş birliğiyle, öz farkındalıkla, teknolojiden faydalanarak, çözüm odaklı çalışan esnek çevirmenler yetiştirilmesine katkı sağladığı ve öğrencilere yaşam boyu öğrenme felsefesini aşıladığı ortaya konmuştur. Dersin geliştirilmeye açık yanları ise küçük ölçekli çeviri projeleri yoluyla yarıyıl boyunca rol değişimi, konu uzmanlarıyla iş birliği, makine çevirisi entegrasyonu, profesyonel söylemin takibi ve öğrencilerin ders faaliyetlerine aktif katılımının desteklenmesidir. Çalışma, bir devlet üniversitesindeki teknolojik olanaksızlığa rağmen çeviri piyasasının beklentileri ve öğretim üyesinin Ana Bilim Dalınınkiyle tutarlı eğitim hedeflerini dengeleyen ve öğrenciyi güçlendiren bir ders modeli geliştirmenin olanaklı olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bu çalışmanın, sunulan ders modeli hakkında bilgisi ve/veya deneyimi bulunmayan çeviri eğitimcilerine örnek oluşturması ve modeli iyileştirmeye yönelik yeni akademik çalışmaları özendirmesi umut edilmektedir.

One aim of translation education is to educate students to be translators that will not meet but adapt to changing conditions and demands of translation market. This study describes a course named Project (Seminar) which was shaped within the framework of this aim and the objectives and conditions of English Translation and Interpreting Department of Istanbul University. Project (Seminar) is a practical course offered in the eighth semester of the BA Program of Department by the present author. The study also gives an assessment of the course under the light of Translation Studies Literature in terms of strong and weak aspects, and presents ideas to optimize the course generated from the literature review and through experience. The strong aspects of the course are the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), project based learning, simulation and learner-centered education methods as well as combined use of teleworking and face- to-face course models (blended learning model). The study shows that the course contributes to the development of translators that work in cooperation and collaboration, with self-consciousness and a solution- oriented perspective while making effective use of ICT and embracing lifelong learning philosophy. The aspects of the course that could be optimized are the role change through small sized translation projects, collaboration with subject-matter experts, integration of machine translation, keeping abreast of professional discourse and supporting active participation of students to class activities. The study reveals that it is possible to develop a course model that could balance the expectations of translation market and the educational aims of the instructor, which are consistent with those of the department, and empower students despite the lack of technological opportunities at a state university in Turkey. It is hoped that this study will provide a perspective to translation instructors with no knowledge and/or experience about the course model presented here and stimulate further academic research about the model.
