Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaöğretim okul müdürlerinin iletişim yeterliklerini öğretmenlerin görüşlerine göre belirlemektir. Karma araştırma yönteminin benimsendiği araştırmada açıklayıcı sıralı desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmış ve veriler random örnekleme yöntemi ile toplanmıştır. Veriler Karabük ilinde 206 öğretmenden, “İletişim Yeterlikleri Ölçeği” aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın nitel basamağında ise durum çalışması deseni benimsenmiştir. Nitel veriler görüşme türlerinden yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme türüne uygun hazırlanan görüşme formu yardımıyla 15 öğretmen ile yüz yüze görüşülerek elde edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak nicel aşamada öğretmenler, okul müdürlerinin iletişim yeterliklerini empati-anlama, sosyal rahatlık ve destekleme boyutlarında ve ölçek toplamında yeterli düzeyde olduğu görülmüştür. Okul müdürlerinin yaşına göre müdürlerin iletişim yeterliklerinde anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya çıkmıştır. Genç okul müdürlerinin iletişim yeterlikleri, yaşlı okul müdürlerine göre daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ölçek toplamında ve ölçek boyutlarında cinsiyet, eğitim durumu, branş ve mesleki kıdem açısından müdürleri iletişim yeterlikleri arasında manidar bir farklılaşma saptanamamıştır. Araştırmanın nitel aşamasının sonucunda ise öğretmenlere göre okul müdürlerinin yönetim süreçlerinde iletişimi etkili kullandıkları yönündedir. Empati ve anlama boyutunda okul müdürleri arasında farklı eğilimlerin olduğu görülmektedir. Sosyal rahatlık boyutunda ise genel olarak okul müdürlerinin öğretmen ve okul çevresi ile güçlü ilişkiler kullandıkları yönündedir. Bununla birlikte destekleme boyutunda müdürlerin genel olarak öğretmenleri gelişimi için destekleyici davranışlar sergilediği söylenebilir.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the communication competencies of school principals according to the opinions of teachers working in secondary schools. In the study, an explanatory sequential design in which quantitative and qualitative methods, which are mixed research, are handled together was used. The quantitative dimension of the research is designed in descriptive scanning model. Quantitative data were collected using the random sampling method from 206 teachers in Karabük with the help of "Communication Competencies Scale". In the qualitative stage of the study, it was conducted according to the case study design within the framework of the results obtained from the quantitative data. Qualitative data were obtained through face-to-face interviews with 15 teachers working in the province of Karabük with the help of the interview form prepared in accordance with the semi-structured interview type. As a result, in the quantitative step, it was seen that the communication competencies of teachers and school principals were at a sufficient level in the dimensions of empathy-understanding, social comfort and support, and in the total scale. There was a significant difference in the communication competencies of the principals according to the age of the principals. It has been determined that the communication competencies of young principals are higher than older principals. No significant difference was found between the communication competencies of school principals in terms of teachers' gender, education level, branch and seniority in all dimensions and scale total. In the qualitative stage, communication competencies of school principals are generally effective according to teachers. The general tendency in empathy and understanding dimension is that it is both strong and weak. In terms of social comfort, it was observed that principals' relations with their subordinates and their environment were generally strong. It has been observed that principals display supportive behaviors in the support dimension.
