Analysis of Teachers’ Attitudes Towards Distance Education in the Distance Education Process

Teachers' attitudes towards distance education are partially important in terms of effectiveness of the distance education process in environments where distance education processes are applied. However, rather than being optional, it becomes even more important in times of global epidemics, where face-to-face education has disappeared and distance education has become mandatory due to global epidemics. This research aims to find out the attitudes of teachers working in İzmir towards distance education. The sample of the study consists of 628 teachers (424 female and 204 male teachers) working in Izmir in the 2019-2020 academic year. In the study, data on teachers' attitudes towards distance education were collected through the "Attitude Scale towards Distance Education" developed by Ağır (2007) and the scale has two sub-dimensions (advantages of distance education, limitations of distance education). Research ethics comittee approval was obtained in September, 2020 from Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. According to the results of the study, it was seen there was no difference according to the gender variable in terms of distance education attitudes. As the results point out, it was concluded that teachers' attitudes towards distance education differ in terms of educational level variable, while their attitudes about the advantages and total attitudes towards distance education differ according to the type of teaching variable, while their attitudes towards limitations towards education do not differ. In the study, it was seen that as the professional seniority increased, distance education attitude decreased, and as the duration of working at the same school increased, distance education attitude decreased.
