The Relationship between Administrators’ Democratic Attitudes and Teachers’ Organizational Socialization

The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between administrators ’democratic attitudes perceived by teachers and teachers ’organizational socialization. Relational screening model was used in the research. The population of the research consists of 1070 teachers working in Şırnak province during the academic year of 2016-2017. The sample consists of 379 teachers selected through random sampling method from the population. A personal information form, ‘Organizational Socialization Scale ’ developed by Erdoğan (2012) and ‘Democratic Attitude Scale ’developed by Bakır (2007) were used in order to collect data. All statistical analyses of the research were done with SPSS for Windows 17.00 package program. Ethics committee approval was obtained to apply the measurement tools (Dated 26.8.2016 and numbered 2016/121) . According to the results of the research, it was seen that school administrators ‘mostly ’ have a democratic attitude. Teachers ’perceptions of the democratic attitudes and behaviors of their administrators did not differ significantly in terms of gender, seniority and branch variables. However, there were significant differences according to the educational level and type of school the teachers worked. According to the teachers ’perceptions, their organizational socialization is at a very high level. While the teachers ’perceptions of organizational socialization did not differ significantly in terms of their professional seniority, educational background and branches, they differed significantly in the ‘language- history ’sub- dimension in terms of gender variable. It has been determined that there is a meaningful relationship in a positive direction between teachers ’perceptions of their administrators ’democratic attitudes and their organizational socialization. It is seen that the level of teachers ’perceptions of their administrators ’ democratic attitudes is a significant predictor of their organizational socialization. It can be stated that 26.5% of the variance related to the organizational socialization of teachers is explained with the level of perception of administrators ’democratic attitudes.
