The Investigation of the Graduate Thesis on Teachers’ in the Field of Lifelong Learning in Terms of Problems, Issues, Results and Recommentations


This study aimed to examine the problems, issues, results, and recommendations of graduate theses conducted on teachers and lifelong learning in Turkey between 2009-2020. Criterion sampling method was used to reach publications on lifelong learning. The sample of the study was made 23 graduate theses published in the Council of Higher Education Thesis Database in the field of lifelong learning with teachers between 2009-2020. The data of the study were collected by examining these theses. The present study is a qualitative study using the document analysis method. The data were analyzed categorically according to their similarities and differences within of content analysis method. The present study concluded that the majority of these theses focused on the perception of lifelong learning competencies in teachers and on identifying relationships between lifelong learning and different variables. In addition, the present study demonstrated that these graduate theses mainly identified the level of lifelong learning tendency in teachers and whether lifelong learning competencies differed across gender, seniority, age, branches, schools that they worked in, and education level as well as searching for solutions to problems. The majority of theses revealed that teachers had a high lifelong learning tendency. It has been revealed that teachers who have graduate education in most of the theses suggest that teachers should be encouraged for postgraduate education due to higher perceptions of lifelong learning competence and in-service training seminars should be given to teachers who are inadequate in lifelong learning. It was also revealed that many general recommendations were made that were not directly related to the research results. Based on these results, some recommendations were provided.
