The Views of the Instructors About the Renewed (2018) Primary School Teacher Training Program


The Council of Higher Education updated the courses and contents of 25 undergraduate programs for the 2018-2019 academic year. In the new updates, General Competencies of Teaching Profession and Teacher Strategy Document developed by the Ministry of National Education (2017-2023) were taken into consideration and within the scope of adaptation to Bologna process, the standard among ECTS faculties was provided and 25% of elective courses were included in the new program. One of the updated undergraduate programs is the primary school undergraduate program. Obtaining the opinions of the instructors who are the implementers of the program related to the program will be effective in identifying / experiencing problems in the process and providing positive feedback. As a matter of fact, in this research, the opinions of the instructors about the renewed primary school teacher training program were examined. In this research, the opinions of the faculty members about the positive and negative aspects of the new primary school teaching undergraduate program, the lessons that were added and removed from the program, the changing course hours and the change of course periods were examined. The sample of the study, which was structured in accordance with the situation pattern from qualitative researches, consists of 16 lecturers who work in primary school teaching in the department of primary school teaching or who teach lessons in primary shool teaching. The data of the study was collected with a structured interview form prepared by the researchers. In the preparation of the questionnaire, undergraduate programs updated with field literature were examined and a draft form was created. The draft form was presented to the expert opinion in terms of scope and language / expression and a form consisting of eight questions was obtained. The collected data were subjected to content analysis. After collecting the data of the study, codes were created by entering to the computer environment. The themes were reached with the obtained codes. The reliability coefficient for the questionnaire consisting of eight questions was determined as .88. The data were presented with tables and the tables were supported with citations. At the end of quotations, figures such as 1, 2, 3 and abbreviations such as k, e are given. The numbers are numbers in the sample; k (female) and e (male). As the data analysis process of the research is continuing, the findings regarding the results will be given in the future.
