Psychological Flexibility Scale: Development, Validity and Reliability

In this study, it was aimed to develope a scale that will provide a more comprehensive measurement of the components of psychological flexibility on the education faculty students and to determine its validity and reliability, in Turkish culture. The item pool was created based on the Psychological Flexibility Model in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, the scale was finalized after the opinions of the experts were received and pilot application was carried out. The study was conducted by 1063 education faculty students who volunteered and three-stage, random, stratified, cluster sampling method was applied. In the research, Acceptance and Action Form II, Psychological Well-Being Scale, Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Scale and Psychological Flexibility Scale, Personal Information Form that developed by the researcher were used. The data obtained were randomly divided into two and the analyzes were carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the reliability and validity of the scale was conducted with Exploratory Factor Analysis, item analysis, item total correlation, 27% lower and upper groups, Cronbach alpha coefficient, Spearman Brown coefficient and equivalent forms. The factor structure of the scale was tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis in the second stage. According to the Exploratory Factor Analysis results, it was observed that the scale explained 60.34% of the variance and was a five-dimensional and 16-item scale. It has been demonstrated that the scale provides reliability for equivalent forms. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total score of the scale is .83; Spearman Brown coefficient was found as .85. According to the results of Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the scale's fit indices (χ2 / sd = 2.62, RMSEA = .05, AGFI = .92, GFI = .95, CFI = .93, NFI = .90, NNFI = .90, IFI = .93 , SRMR = .05) has been found to show a good fit level. It was revealed that the developed scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. The findings are discussed in the light of the related literature.
