Evaluation of Logistics Sector in Turkey (2000-2018)

Global economic structures, longer distances, increased customer diversity and wider markets have created changes in many areas. In this context, some changes have occurred in the logistics sector as logistics is an area that is dependent on all other sectors and is the area that every sector needs. It has supported the development of logistics in combined transportation with the development of road, seaway, railway, airline modes around the world. The optimum use of transportation modes and logistics activities has gained importance. Enterprises in the global environment have started to compete with supply chains. The logistics industry is the most important part of the supply chain. Logistics industry has become more and more important position both in Turkey and in the world after the 2000s, with the effect of globalization. The increase in international trade also supported the progress of logistics and progressed synchronously with each other. The increase in international trade has expanded the foreign trade volume and made logistics even more key sector. After the 2000s, foreign investment in Turkey related to the logistics sector increased, branches of major logistics companies has been opened in Turkey. This situation has been reflected positively in the economy, it has been also supported to increase the employment. However, in recent years, tensions experienced in the international arena, Turkey-Russia relations strained in 2016 and terrorist attacks that took place in Turkey affected trade volume so it is observed that it affects the development of the Turkish logistics sector negatively. In this study, after 2000, it is evaluated the status of Turkey's logistics industry and, analyzed the relationship between economy, foreign trade and employment.
