THE ANALYSIS OF SCHOOL LOCATIONS IN ÖDEMİŞ DISTRICT VIA GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATIONS SYSTEM (GIS)


The research has been applied to Ödemiş city which constitutes administrative center of Ödemiş district in İzmir province. The aim of the study is to determine how suitable the choice of school location is in terms of transportation in order to provide a better education. Only public schools were included in the research because education was a constitutional right.It is clear that private schools take into account different criteria for site selection due to their commercial concerns. The criteria taken in determining the applicability of accessibility Mekânsal Planlar Yapı Yönetmeliğinin Dördüncü Bölüm Mekânsal Planların Yapımına Dair Esaslar, Yürüme mesafeleri in Article 12, Paragraph 2. In addition, the analysis has been applied to longer distances that provide a better explanation of the situation used in similar studies. In this study, the accessibility of public schools in Ödemiş was determined by using ArcMap 10.2 program. Network analysis was applied to the distances and alternative distances specified in the legal regulations to 39 schools in preclass (3), preschool (11), primary (9), secondary (8), high school (8) levels. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the most important problem in terms of accessibility in preschool and primary schools. As the level of education increases, it is seen that the problem decreases in parallel with the increase in the regulations. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the most important problem in the field in terms of accessibility is in primary schools. The main reason for this problem is that there are only three primary schools in the field. Within the scope of the analysis, only 15.3% of the 3401 students in kindergarten age have access to education at the distances specified in the regulation. Primary schools in Ödemiş are located in Turkmen, Anafartalar and Hürriyet neighborhoods and there are no public primary schools outside these neighborhoods. In the city, the gap arising from the lack of primary schools was tried to be filled with primary schools, but the accessibility rate still did not exceed 53.9%.
