MEANING IN THE PAINTINGS OF FIKRET MUALLA SAYGI

This study, which aims to reveal the meaning dimension of Fikret Mualla's paintings, is thought to contribute to the determination of the place and importance of an important artist whose importance in the history of modern Turkish art is not well understood. The method of the study is based on Erwin Panofsky's three-stage art criticism method. Using this method, two watercolor paintings of the painter were analyzed and the iconological dimension was tried to be revealed by taking data from the views of various important people. In addition, the artist's drawings were interpreted. In Fikret Mualla's paintings, escape from hypocrisy in the city and searching for people should be considered as the main theme. Escape from the negativity of the city; is the foundation of Barbizon school for us. Urbanization as a result of the industrial revolution and the escape from it in this context is one of the factors that started modern art. Fikret Mualla's art should also be evaluated and examined in this context. Mualla, reflecting her bohemian life into her paintings, blended her uncompromising stance with her art. The life philosophy of the artist is similar to Baudelaire's Dandy typing. The most important feature of this typing is that society chooses freedom instead of following the established dogmas. We can say that Fikret Mualla's art is literally a visualization of a think activity. As Abidin Dino states in his paintings, he integrated his intellectual activity with his creativity in an effort to go down to the essence of nature. The most important feature of Fikret Mualla's paintings is that his passion for freedom is identical with the artist's style and carries all modern reflexes. These modern reflexes; originality, creativity, bohemianism and reflecting the idea of his work can be said to create a modern language.
