EXAMINATION THE ATTITUDES OF WOMEN TOWARDS GENDER ROLES AND THE SELF IN FAMILY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE GENERATION IN 3 GENERATIONS OF WOMEN WHO ARE BLOOD-BOUND


The study aims to examine the attitudes of women towards gender roles and the self in the family in the context of the generetion. İn line with this aim, a total of 384 people were reached to 128 families living in Sivas/Merkez, Gaziantep/Merkez, Şanlıurfa/Siverek and Hakkari/Yüksekova by the snowball method. The participants were given a questionnaire to learn the demographic information and were applied The Gender Attidute Scale (2011) and The Self in Family Scale (2005). The daughters’ age average is 22.71(S = 5.51); the mothers’ age averge is 46.02 (S = 7.63); the grandmothers’ age averge is 71.49 (S = 10.68). In the attitude of gender roles, it has been found that girls shows more equalty attitude than mothers and grandmothers, and mothers shows more equality attitude than grandmothers. In related self dimension of the self in the family, it has been found that grandmothers shows more related than mothers and girls, and mothers shows more related than girls, in autonomous-related self dimension, that girls shows more autonomous-related than mothers and grandmothers, and mothers shows more autonomous-related than grandmothers. As a result of the hierarchical regression analysis, it was seen that age and related negatively and autonomous and autonomous-related positively predicted the egalitarien gender role attitude and in marriage gender role attitude. was seen that age and related negatively and autonomous-related positively predicted female gender role attitude and traditional gender role attitude. it was seen that age, related and education negatively predicted male gender role attitude. This result shows that the attitude towards gender roles varies with the changing social situation. However, education and income status have an important contribution to the egelitarian attitude in the gender role,especially second and third generations; it has once again demonstrated the necessity of giving importance to the education of women and their place in working life.
