BID’AT SECTS AT HANAFI MATURIDI TRADITION AND NON-ISLAMIC RELIGIONS: THE EXAMPLE OF ABU SHAKUR AL-SALIMI


Abu Shakur al-Salimi is a theologian of Hanafi-Maturidi from Samarkand, who lived in the second half of the 5th hegira era and known for his works called al-Tamhid fi Bayan al-Tawhid and Kitab al-Miraj. In his book Kitab al-Miraj, which we haven't reached yet, but we have information about its content, al-Salimi discussed the miraj and the wisdom of the miraj. In his work al-Tamhid, which has come until today, al-Salimi includes Islamic sects in terms of being right and bidat in addition to the subjects related to Kalam, he also evaluated non-Islamic religions in terms of blasphemy and shirk. Al-Salimi considers the concept of sevad-i azam, which is based on the creation of the vast majority of rights, and has met with the Ahl al-Sunnah and sevad-i azam. Al-Salimi, who accepts being right as creating the vast majority, has sensitively focused on the concept of sevad-i-azam, and has accepted sevad-i-azam with Ahl al-Sunnah as the one. Although it was determined that he had benefited greatly from Maturidi, he did not mention Maturidi explicitly, and used his Hanafi upper identity basing on his ideas to Abu Hanifa and his students. He clearly regarded the Ash’ariyye, one of the branches of the Ahl al-Sunnah, as a opponent. The method of classifying sects confirms the Hanafi-Maturidi tradition, which he is a follower, reflecting the eastern Hanafi tradition. In addition, it is the first of the well-known sources in terms of constructing the names of six bidat sects that are attributed to Abu Hanifa and the evaluation of non-Islamic religions after sects. It was determined that the mentioned style affected some scholars who came after him. He emphasized the opinions of the sects that considered as bidat and the non-Islamic religions that caused as shirk or blasphemy.
