CINEMA VIEWING HABİTS AS A LEISURE TIME UTILIZATION TOOL IN TURKEY


In this study, it is aimed to determine the new communication technologies and cinema watching tendencies of Turkish cinema audience. In this study, A total number of 6013 cinema audiences with a total of 26 provinces from Turkey, a representative sample has been reached to research the cinema as a leisure time activity that under the threat of new communication technologies. The data consist of demographic information of the audience, the use of mass media, participation in culture and art activities and cinema watching habits were taken into consideration were obtained in 2017. According to the findings; sporting/artistic/cultural activities that cinema viewers participate most in their free time are going to the cinema (95%), participating in sporting activities and going to concerts. The least common activities were going to opera and ballet. Their favorite film genres were action, comedy and science fiction; at least musical and political content. Most of the participants prefer to go to the cinema with their friends (83%), their spouse/lover (43.2%) and alone (24%), and the least with children (3.9%) and fathers (3.7%). The reasons for choosing movies in cinema were respectively quality, pleasure and respect for labor. 88.7% of cinema watchers watch movies on DVD or online instead of cinema.
