COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES AND HUMAN LIVING IN VISUAL CULTURE


Communication tools, which are among the important elements of socialization, are the triggers of change in social and cultural practices with the opportunities offered by new technologies in the field of communication. Developing and changing technological tools have an important place in cultural transformation processes with their characteristics that directly affect communication styles. Communication methods, which vary depending on communication technologies, bring definitions that emphasize the change of culture. As a matter of fact, the definitions of oral culture, written culture, printed culture and digital culture / visual culture are the definitions that reveal the change of culture depending on the development of communication technologies. The interaction on the triangle of communication technologies, forms of communication and culture have a major role in determining the daily practices and frame of mind of people. In this context, in order to understand the intellectual situation and daily practices of people living in visual / digital culture in line with their communication technologies, two groups of five people with high internet usage were identified and focus group interviews were conducted with these groups. With the focus group meeting conducted to understand the frame of mind of people living in visual culture and using communication technologies intensively, it is aimed to reveal the reflections of technology in practice by determining the results of people's relationship with technology and their attitude s towards visual elements. As a result of this study, it has been determined that image has primary importance amongin for mation sources and today's people are subjected to a process of meaning that is closest to reality but beyond reality with series of films and other digital contents consisting of images and representations.
