FROM TANRI MOUNTAIN TO HIRA MOUNTAIN: HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE TURKISH RIGHT


Turkish-Islamic synthesis becomes so to speak as the body and soul of the Turkish right, which has always a determinative role upon the political line extending from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic. In addition to the basic sociological and socio-psychological backgrounds of the Turkish right generated by the Turkism and Islamism as the ones of major mainstream movements of the route pursued by the Turkish political culture, another stage, on which its own projection comes out of, is the historical background. It is clear that the trivet, upon which the historical background of the Turkish right is established, is composed of the concepts as homeland, nation and state. For that reason, in this work, it is aimed an investigation of the historical background of the Turkish right and via it the political and ideological structure of the Turkish right through these three concepts. In other words, it is endeavored to examine these three basic concepts also formed the Turkish political life mostly highly determined by the Turkish right, which realizes the heritage taken from Turkist-Turanist and Islamist ideas and movements appeared in the last period of the Ottoman Empire into several appearings until today. In this manner, ontological and epistemological phenomena are handled within the context of the concepts of the history as the glorious past for the Turkish right namely homeland as the sacred land, nation as the chosen people and state as the survival ideal. In fact, the phenomenal relation possessed by these three concepts as the keystone of the Turkish right thought in case constitutes a intersectional line in the light of notions, facts indicated by the narration upon Tanrı Mountain and Hira Mountain. Thus, in the Turkish political life, to comprehend this line followed carefully by the ideas of nationalism, conservatism and Islamism and the political movements they exposing generates the basic motive of this work regarding the historical background of the Turkish right.
