GEOGRAPHICAL FACTORS IN THE KIRIKHAN DISTRICT IN THE CHOICE OF THE LOCATION OF RURAL SETTLEMENTS

Kırıkhan district is located within the borders of Adana Section of the Mediterranean Region. The administrative area of the district of Hatay is 715 km². The research area is adjacent to Hassa district in the north, Payas district in the northwest, İskenderun district in the west, Belen and Kumlu districts in the southwest and Syrian State in the east. The number of village settlements in the research area is 57. The majority of these villages consisted of one-piece neighborhood. In 33 of the 57 villages, which are concentrated in areas where agricultural land is located, there is only one settlement unit in administrative area. The administrative area of the remaining 24 settlements consists of more than one neighborhood, hamlet, plateau and farm settlements. This type of settlements are located in high areas where the topographic structure is rugged. The aim of this study is to determine and analyze the geographical factors that affect the location of the settlements in Kırıkhan district. In the first part of the study, information is given about the location, boundary natural, human and economic characteristics of the site. In the second part, the location of the rural settlements in Kırıkhan district were evaluated in terms of settlement geography. The settlement can be defined as the whole of all the buildings, from the most primitive house clusters found in all parts of the world to the most sublime buildings. Explores. The relationship between man and nature is one of the conditions that lead to the emergence of settlements, determination of their position and the formation of economic activities.
