FAMILY QUALITY OF LIFE PERCEPTIONS AND ACCEPTANCE-REJECTION OF MOTHERS WHO HAVE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES


The purpose of this study is to examine acceptance-rejection behaviors and family quality of life perceptions of mothers who have children with developmental disabilities. The research was conducted in accordance with relational survey model on the purpose of demostrating the relationship between scores which were obtained from the scales. The sample group of the study was determined by random sampling method. It consist of 250 mothers who live in Konya and have children with developmental disabilities. In the study, “Personal İnformation Form”, “The Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire-Short Form”(PARQ)and Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale (BSFQOLS) were used as data gathering tools. In the research analyses, the Mann-Whitney U test was used to examine whether there was a significant difference between in maternal acceptance / rejection behaviors and family life quality perception subscale scores in accordance with the gender of the children with developmental disabilities. In addition, the Kruskal Wallis H test was used to determine whether there was a significant difference among the maternanl acceptance / rejection behavior in terms of the developmentally disabled children’s ages, family life quality perception subscale scores and the age, the number of children they have.When the perceptions of Family Life Quality were analyzed according to the age groups of the mothers, a significant difference was found in the Disability-Related Support subscale. Accordingly, it was determined that the age group with the highest Disability-Related Support was the 33-37 age group. Also, it was determined that the mothers' age did not affect Family interaction, Parenting, Emotional Well-being, Physical / Material Well-being and developmentally disabled child and the number of children mothershave did not affect the quality of the family life.
