BEAUTY PERCEPTION SCALE DEVELOPMENT STUDY

The aim of this study is to develop a scale to determine the individuals' perceptions of beauty. During the development of the scale, 78 items were created and submitted to the expert opinion. After the formation of the items, the expressions were collected in the form and examined by 4 lecturers, who worked at Duzce University and Sabahattin Zaim University, each of whom were experts in developing attitude scale (at least with a doctorate), and their opinions about whether the attitude expressions examined by the items established were related to the research topic were taken. Following the expert opinions, only one item was removed from the scale. The draft scale with 77 items was applied to 303 people from all age groups residing in various districts of Istanbul Anatolian side. The group representing the universe consists of 303 participants (146 females and 157 males) who were randomly selected from different districts in Istanbul Anatolian side (Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Ümraniye, Üsküdar). After the completion of the applications, all the answer forms were examined and the papers of the individuals whose answers were considered invalid due to reasons such as missing answers, multiple coding and leaving some questions blank were determined and these forms were not included in the analysis. As a result, analyses were initiated to develop scale with the remaining N = 227 sample number.Cronbach Alpha value was calculated as ,939 in terms of internal consistency after calculating item total correlations in scale development stage. Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFA) was performed to determine the construct validity of the scale and varimax vertical rotation procedure was performed. As a result of these analyses, a 77-item scale with a single factor was obtained. The results obtained prove that the scale is valid and reliable.
