A GLANCE OF THE KIRGIZ THEATER. KIRGIZ NATIONAL ACADEMIC DRAM THEATER

ABSTRACT When it comes to epic tradition, Kyrgyz Manas Epic is one of the first that comes to mind. The Manas Epic, which tells the Turkish history and Turkish culture in detail, either with music or without, has been narrated from one generation to another with particular style of expression. Kyrgyz Theater, indeed, was also influenced by this tradition. When we examine the research of theater historians, we see that their research is mostly based on western origin and perspectives. In particularly, serious research on the role and importance of the postmodernism movement is seen to be of western origin. Although there are studies about Russian theater in our country, it is a fact that there are not enough studies about the theaters of the Soviet-controlled countries. In this article, it is necessary to study on artists who sealed 20th Century Kyrgyz theater and those who pioneered of new theater in 21th Century, as well as artists who helped to improve the theater in the Soviet period and thereafter. While observing the Kyrgyz theater from a general paradigm, we examined the achievements of these two generations of artists who took part in stage art in the post-Soviet period and after. It is difficult to find written sources about the process of both the Russian theater and the theaters of the Soviet controlled countries. In this sense, the articles focused on Kyrgyz National Academic Drama Theater in which what kind of a way and method followed in this process, what happened in the repertoire was the main scheme of our research.
