EVALUATION OF BUILDING PROGRAM IN REFUNCTIONALIZATION OF TRADITIONAL STRUCTURES


After the industrialization, intensive global migrations to city centres have been experienced. Extensive population growth and expansions have occurred in the citycentres due to the effect of these migrations. New and more comfortable structures are preferred with the contributions of economic developments. Traditional structures left to the use of lower income groups in the first place due to this social change were completely abandoned in later periods. The objective of this study is to present a model proposal for the process of refunctionalization by restoration of traditional structures protectedby legislations. Architectural design process is examined, the methods utilized in refunctionalization of existing structures are identified and a proposal model is created by also taking the preservation criteria in to consideration. The models taking place in the literature and customized generally for new buildings, Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) method in tended for the measurement of users a tisfaction in existing structures, legal limitations to be taken in to consideration in the process of conservation of traditional structures and other limitations concerning the sustainability of structures are identified. The conservation process, takingplace in theliterature as Carte del restauro, in response to destruction of structures with historical and cultural value over time, is now carried out evenmore effectively also with theparticipation of governments. A building program model proposal consisting of ten stages is prepared in this article with the intention of contributing to the success rate of reutilization of traditional structures under protection.
