An Essential and Comprehensive Analyze of a Memory Related Social History “The Humayunnama of Gulbadan Begum”


Memories are considered as an essential resources. However, we can not build our history records by only relying on the memories. There should be methodologies to be used to examine and figure out the correctness of them. From this point of view, one memory can sometimes create an immortal change or effect on social, political or cultural aspects. Babur Shah (1483-1530) is an precious statesman who opened an important page in Turkish history with The State of Baburid (1526-1858) in India. He is also a poet and writer. Babur Shah’s Baburnama, which is known worldwide for his memoirs, is an autobiography above all, but due to its content, it shows versatility and variability in terms of its literary genre and nature. In ancient Turkish literature, Baburnama has become a center of increasing interest and appreciation as an unprecedented work in the sense of autobiography, the example of which can be seen as almost nothing. Babur Shah’s daughter Gülbeden Begum (1523-1603) continued his writing tradition and wrote a book to shed light of the period. Humayunnama, a diary or a journal that has been written by Gulbadan Begum includes a very comprehensive details about their social lives in their times. Humayunnama has been selected and will be used to examine and analyze as a part of our studies. It provides a great range of information about life in the palace, traditions, religious rituals, members of dynasty, etc. that can be an essential resource for a study will be held on Social History. This will be first study that will examine Humayunnama of Gulbadan Begum with the methods of content analyzes. Examination of concepts, medieval India’s social, cultural, religious, economic etc. In addition, it will contribute to social history by providing the opportunity to be compared with today’s life.
