PROCESS TO CYPRUS PEACE OPERATION

The use of the island of Cyprus as a base during the attacks by the Mediterranean pirates on the Ottoman merchant ships was disturbing the Ottoman State. Therefore, II. Sultan Selim conquered Cyprus in 1571. England, which supported the Ottoman Empire during the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War, occupied the island of Cyprus temporarily. However, on 5 November 1914, as soon as he entered the First World War, he unilaterally annexed Cyprus. During the First World War, England gained superiority by using it as an important logistic base during the battles on the Ottoman Empire and Syria and Iraq Fronts. During the British rule, Greece formally requested Cyprus from the British both during the First World War and during the Treaty of Lausanne. The British government formally rejected both requests. However, the loss of power in Britain during World War II encouraged the Greek Cypriots. The fact that he surrendered the island to the Greeks on his own was considered contrary to his political interests. For this purpose, a Cyprus representing the two sectors in Turkey revealed the idea that the island was established. For this purpose, a series of negotiations, the talks in London, Zurich. Turkey's Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis attended, Zurich - London Agreements were signed on February 19, 1959. With this Agreement, a state called the Republic of Cyprus was established and was accepted by the UN. However, Greek Cypriots were not satisfied with this form of administration. Moreover, the idea of Enosis and the desire to connect the island of Cyprus to Greece caused bloody internal conflicts on the island. 1963 Bloody Christmas and 1967 Greeks attacked Turkish villages and killed many Turks. The Turks wanted to respond to these attacks by establishing the Turkish Resistance Organization, but this was not enough. 15 July, Makarios was forced to leave the island with the military coup in Greece in 1974 and then attempts to connect with Turkey on the capacity of the Guarantor States has made the island to Greece Cyprus Peace Operation. Thus, the two-state state structure of the island has actually been realized.
