Mesleki İngilizce I Dersinin Süreç Boyutunun Katılımcı Odaklı Değerlendirme Yaklaşımı ile Değerlendirilmesi

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Kırklareli Üniversitesi Lüleburgaz Uygulamalı Bilimler Yüksek Okulu, Bankacılık ve Finans Programı bünyesinde sunulan Mesleki İngilizce Dil I dersinin süreç boyutunu, katılımcı odaklı yaklaşımla değerlendirmektir. Amaçlı örnekleme yaklaşımlarından, kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi ile gerçekleştirilen araştırmanın örneklemini dersin paydaşları olan yabancı diller bölüm başkanı, Bankacılık ve Finans programı öğretim üyesi, dersin yürütücü öğretim görevlisi ve 2018-19 Eğitim-Öğretim yılı Güz döneminde dersi alan altı Bankacılık ve Finans programı üçüncü sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilen araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, araştırmacı tarafından paydaşlar için ayrı olarak hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerle yapılan odak grup görüşmesi sonucu elde edilen veriler içerik analizi tekniği ile analiz edilmiş, öğrencilerin dersin süreç boyutuna ilişkin görüşleri “dersin öğretimindeki sorunlar”, “dersin etkililiğini arttıran faktörler” ve “dersin iyileştirilmesine dair öneriler” olarak üç kategori altında gruplanmıştır. Öğrencilere göre Mesleki İngilizce I dersinin öğretimindeki başlıca sorunlar “İngilizce altyapısının yetersiz olması” ve “dersi geçmeye odaklanmaktır”. Öğrenciler dersin etkililiğini arttıran başlıca faktörün “öğretmenin dersi sevdirmesi” olduğunu ifade ederlerken, dersin iyileştirilmesine yönelik olarak“yurt dışı öğrenci değişim programlarından faydalanılması” ve “dersin meslek alanından kişilerle desteklenmesi” önerilerinde bulunmuşlardır. Öğrencilerin dersin süreç boyutuna ilişkin görüşleri, dersin diğer paydaşları olan yabancı diller bölüm başkanı, dersi yürüten öğretim görevlisi ve Bankacılık ve Finans programı öğretim üyesinin görüşleri ile beraber tartışılmıştır.

The aim of this research is to evaluate the process dimension of the vocational English Language I course offered by the Banking and Finance Program of Luleburgaz Applied Sciences School of Kirklareli University with the participatory evaluation approach. The sample of the research, which was carried with convenient sampling method from purposive sampling methods, was composed of related stakeholders of the course, namely the head of foreign languages department, the instructor of the course, a lecturer from the Banking and Finance program, and six third grade students taking the course during the Fall 2018-19 Semester. In this case study research, semi-structured interview forms which were prepared separately by the researcher for each stakeholder were used as the data collection tool. The data obtained from the focus group interviews with the students were analyzed by the content analysis technique and students’ views about the process dimension of the course were grouped under three categories as “problems with the teaching of the course”, “factors increasing the effectiveness of the course” and “suggestions for improving the course”. According to the students, main problems with the teaching of the vocational English I course are “insufficient English infrastructure” and “focusing on passing the course”. While the students stated that the main factor increasing the effectiveness of the course is “the teacher who makes the course loveable”, they made the suggestions of “benefiting from foreign exchange programs” and “supporting the course with people from the business sector” for improving the course. These views of the students about the process dimension of the course are discussed together with the views of other stakeholders who are the head of foreign languages department, the instructor of the course and the lecturer of Banking and Finance program.
