FIGURING THE PATHS TO FOSTER CREATIVITY AT PRESCHOOL LEVEL THROUGH THE SYNTHESIS OF RELEVANT STUDIES


Modern life necessitates the use of "Creative Thinking Skills" which will enable individuals to solve individual, social and professional problems. Programs for fostering creativity in education systems from the earliest years and scientific studies to be carried out in this field are needed more. Contemporary education should carry the characteristics that enable the individual to acquire qualifications that are creative, researcher, interrogator and able to apply what they know. The preschool education environment has an important place in the development of creative thinking skills. While the achievement indicators in preschool education programs emphasize the need for support to children’s creative thinking skills, nevertheless this has not been a common goal of educators. In this respect, this study was conducted to examine ways to support creativity of preschoolers. In the study, an integrative method was used to analyze the postgraduate theses in Turkish about creativity and creative thinking skills. It was aimed to reach the existing work until May 2018 when the survey of the literature was made. To reach Turkish studies about creativity in preschool period, Turkish Council of Higher Education Thesis Screening database were scanned. Keywords were limited to "early childhood", "preschool", "creativity" and "creative thinking skills" when screening. For the inclusion in this study, criteria sought from the screening results were: (a) has been carried out in Turkey, (b) have been published in the form of master's and doctoral theses, (c) have studied on preschoolers as the sample (d) have had full-text versions permitted by the authors. The researchers reached 70 theses and data analysis was done by subjective decoding. According to the results, creative techniques for children can be divided into three categories: individual creativity techniques, group creativity techniques, group-individual creativity techniques.
