EVALUATION OF THE VIEWS OF TURKISH TEACHERS WORKING IN TEMPORARY EDUCATION CENTERS ABOUT TURKISH TEACHING TO SYRIAN STUDENTS


It can be expressed that the Syrian war is one of the biggest wars that led to hard-to-compensate destruction in the last half century. As a consequence of this war, a country was almost completely destroyed, and millions of people lost their lives. It is observed that many people have to live in other countries. Undoubtedly, Turkey is one of the most affected countries after the Syrian war. According to official figures, the number of registered Syrians in Turkey has reached to 2.7 million by 2017. In addition, some sources claim that this number exceeds to 5 million, including those not registered. With the migration wave which upset the balances, some problems have started in our country; The most important of these is the teaching Turkish in order to facilitate the adaptation of these people to the social life in Turkey. For this purpose, it is known Temporary Education Centers, Public Education Centers and TÖMERs supported by the government have opened Turkish language courses and these courses are conducted under the supervision of Turkish instructors. The aim of this study is to evaluate the opinions of Turkish instructors working at temporary education centers about teaching Turkish to Syrian students. The main purpose of this study is to determine systematic problems and deficiencies faced by Turkish language instructors while teaching Turkish to Syrian students and to make inferences about the issue based on the opinions of Turkish instructors. A semi-structured interview form was applied to the participants of the study during the interview. Six interview questions found in the semi-structured interview form were formed by taking expert opinions. The samples of the study were 14 Turkish instructors working in Temporary Education Centers serving in different provinces. The data obtained from the participants were evaluated by content analysis method. At the end of the study, it was found that Turkish lecturers expressed various problems experienced in teaching Turkish to Syrian students; they evaluated resources and systems, and tried to identify various problems and deficiencies. As a result of the research, various suggestions were made for teaching Turkish to Syrian students.
