The Investigation of the Relationship Between Prospective Teachers’ Sources of Self-Efficacy Belief and Life Satisfaction


This study was conducted to examine the relationships between teacher candidates’ sources of self-efficacy beliefs and life satisfaction. Moreover, it was aimed to determine whether prospective teachers’ sources of self-efficacy beliefs and their life satisfaction vary according to the gender and department variables. The study was conducted with 271 teacher candidates studying in the last years of the public university’s education faculty in the spring 2018-2019 semester. The Life Satisfaction Scale and The Scale of Determining Teacher Candidates’ Sources of Self-Efficacy Belief were used in the study. The results revealed that the teacher candidates' opinions about performance achievements, verbal persuasion and psychological state, the sources of self-efficacy belief, and life satisfaction showed significant difference in favor of female students. Results also indicated that the opinions of prospective teachers about psychological state and life satisfaction differed according to the department they attend to. Finally, while the most powerful correlation occurred between the life satisfaction and the psychological states, there were significant positive low level relationships were found between the other three sources and life satisfaction of prospective teachers.
