EVALUATION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND PLAY COURSE IN TERMS OF CLASS TEACHERS’ VIEWS

The aim of this study is to examine physical education and play lessons in primary school curriculum in terms of views of class teachers in Muğla province. This study, in which physical education and play course will be evaluated in terms of teachers’ views, will be used as a descriptive study which will use interview analysis technique from qualitative research techniques. The universe of the study consists of 3459 class teachers working in 328 primary schools in Turkey, 308 of which are state and 20 of them are private. For the calculation of the sample size, the table given by Başkale (2016) was taken into consideration and 87 teachers reached the sufficient number of the sample. As a data collection tool, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used. The researcher had provided earlier meeting hours from the administrations of the schools he attended and made visits within the program he created and saved time and material. In order to understand whether the sample group differentiated according to demographic characteristics, independent samples t test and one-way variance analyzes were applied. Correlation analysis was performed on the relationships between the data obtained from the sample group. One of the most important results obtained from the study was that male teachers were more suited to physical education and games than female teachers. In addition, it has been concluded that male teachers feel more ready for physical and mental lessons, less deficiencies of plant and material as the limiters of the course, their beliefs are higher in the gains of the course and they give less places in physical education and play lessons. As the age and professional years of the class teachers participating in the research increase, they appear to be an important result obtained from the study in which they have more negative attitudes towards physical education and play lesson.
