The realization of learning requires access to information from various sources and transferring the acquired knowledge to other situations and environments. Given that the individual is in a learning cycle throughout his/her life, it is clear that learning cannot be limited to school alone. In this direction, educational institutions should be intertwined with place and life in order for the individual to recognize and understand the world in which he/she lives and to prepare for life. In this way, acquired knowledge and skills will gain meaning. The place-based teaching approach makes use of place as the primary source of learning. The most important strength of this teaching approach is that it can adapt to the characteristics of the place and overcome the disjuncture between school and student life. The main goal of the place-based teaching approach is to enable students to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values as a result of their direct learning experiences in the place where they live, to get to know the place with its natural and social aspects and to improve their attachment to the place. Place-based education is a holistic approach that will strengthen the relations of individuals with the place and create the consciousness of the place and strengthen the development of the place attachment. In this way, it will be possible to train individuals equipped with the perception of the place and the world that the societies would like them to have. The current study aimed to fill the theoretical void in the field of place-based education in Turkey.
