The Relation of the Work of Community Centers with Social Studies Curriculum in the Context of 5th and 6th Grade Social Studies Textbooks


Community Centers, which is an important step in the political, social, economic and cultural changes in the country after the successful struggle of the national struggle, is an educational institution that has provided services in the realization of a new period in the country with its nine branches opened. The aim of the Community’s Centers, which have important effects on the society, can be expressed as creating a contemporary society by raising the individuals who know their rights as an ideal, activecitizen and who are aware of the cultural and national values and protect them. These stated aims of Community’s Centers can also be related to the principles and objectives of the primary education Social Studies Teaching Program. Values such as independence, peace, solidarity, patriotism, aesthetics, benevolence and freedom which are included in the Social Studies Teaching Program aiming to raise an ideal and effectivecitizen can be defined as the values that Community Center is trying to bring to society. This research has been carried out by document analysis which is one of the qualitative research methods. Within the scope of the study, Social Studies Teaching program was used the latest editions of the class Social Studies textbooks. As a result of the study, it is seen that the acquisitions within the scope of Culture and Heritage and Individual and Society learning area and values in the Social Studies Teaching Program have similarities in terms of the aims and studies of the Community Centers.
